When Fashion Meets Function

tassel_external_battery_layout

In an ideal world our devices would be able to make it through the day on a single charge and we wouldn’t be constantly on edge about being stranded with a lifeless device, or witnessing our disappointed and lost reflections in the blank screen of our, now useless, phones.

Until this day comes we will have to make-do with carrying around powerbanks, but TASSEL may make this task slightly more bearable. Powerbanks often carry a rather utilitarian aesthetic and this may interfere with your clothing style or current trends; TASSEL combats this by featuring a sleek and minimal outer casing, where just four LEDs feature on its otherwise uninterrupted design.

The cable, which is inspired by the tassels often found on women’s bags, means that the user needn’t worry about ever losing the cable, therefore they are still able to conveniently charge their device to ensure they are never left feeling lost without it.

The elegance your workspace needs

lay_desk_1

Finding its intersection between the two categories of products that dominate our workspace, the LAY combines tech and stationery. Using a simple boolean union of forms, the LAY serves as a plug-point for your laptop charger as well as a power brick for your phone, while the V-shaped element lets you store supplies, writing equipment, or even notepads, etc.

The speckled terrazzo-inspired paint job on the LAY’s power brick/adapter breaks its mass in a way that doesn’t make it look like an unsightly block, but rather something more delightful looking… which is a good thing, because most tech accessories have a tendency to look blockish, utilitarian, and just plain ugly. LAY’s use of simple intersecting forms, intriguing CFM, and its ability to have the utility of a tech product with the aesthetic of a tabletop stationery stand, however, make it a breath of fresh air!

When earphones and jewelry design converge

od_earphones_1

Designed to look like ornaments, rather than those Bluetooth headsets you see businesspeople and security details wearing, the OD Earphones are truly wireless, but come with a cord that connects the earpieces together in a way that looks tasteful while making sure you don’t lose one earpiece on a crowded train.

The elegantly styled OD is named after the two visual elements that comprise it. The O-shaped audio driver, and the D-shaped metal ring that gives the earphones character as well as a place to hang the connecting cord from. They even dock seamlessly into the charging case, and can easily be removed by simply sliding your finger under the D-Ring to take each earpiece out. Designed with classic color combos like black and silver, white and rose gold, and my personal favorite, olive green and gold, the OD may perform like earphones, but they look like haute couture!

The Hip-to-be-Square Hair Dryer

hifive_07

Inspired by the world renowned street style brand Off-White, the HIFIVE hair dryer is a fashion-forward take on a common appliance. Users will find the same signature Off-White diagonal line pattern and an overall shape that’s more squarish and technical than traditionally round units.

It’s something entirely new, however, it maintains a cylindrical handle and half-nozzle for familiarity and ergonomics. Unlike other entirely round units, its top section sports a completely flat surface on which it rests. It’s a simple stabilizing solution that should have been adopted by other designs a long time ago to keep dryers from wobbling around! With a folding handle and compact collapsed form, it’s also easy to store or carry in a suitcase.

A Rant on Wireless Vacuums

crane_cordless_vacuum_01

Did I miss the memo stating that all cordless vacuum cleaners must now look as though they’ve just stepped off a gay pride parade float?! They’ve literally come out of the appliance closet, rainbowing in full force! (No offense to my LGBT friends.) It seems like everyone from Dyson to Black+Decker is spitting out new models that only get more flashy than the ones before. For those of us who care about how things look, even if they rest behind closed doors, there’s CANE.

It’s a modern, minimalist approach to the cordless vacuum cleaner designed for the discerning user. No obtrusive hues, no superfluous shapes that mimic flexed muscles, just the bare essentials presented in a demure design with pure sucking power. Don’t worry, the less-is-more approach doesn’t mean you’re sacrificing features… like the U-shaped handle that provides a simple fix to reaching remote areas or convenient organization stand for keeping specialized pieces together. So, unless you’re planning on taking your vacuum as a date to Mardis Gras in New Orleans, consider a CANE!

The Awesome Asome

asome_bluetooth_audio_1

Your wired headphones are like a leash. You can only move away from your music source as far as the wire takes you. If you’re using the phone, it’s much easier, given that your phone is portable; however moving to a world that does away with 3.5mm audio jacks (yes, Apple, I’m talking to you.), it only makes sense that we exploit wireless music streaming. The Asome is a tiny bluetooth module that you can attach your headphones to. It then connects to your music source via Bluetooth, creating a bridge, allowing your music to stream wirelessly.

The Asome is so tiny, you won’t notice it, yet its bold design allows it to not get lost. It comes with a tiny clip-on accessory too, so that you can flaunt your asome on your person, instead of hide it away in your pocket!

WaterDrip

I just finished reading up a rant by a fellow tech online-writer about how we should not be covering our Smartphones with cases. He probably hasn’t seen many people go through the agony of busting one up due to accidental spills and drops. Or he hasn’t yet seen this witty Vitamin Shield Case. A labor of love by UX agency Light Brain and Joongho Choi, this durable waterproof case has a double zipper feature, making your Smartphone available for use underwater. You can even access the touchscreen functionality with ease. Simple and smart!
