An ATM you want to bank on!

man_atm_1

By far some of the worst user experiences in my life are the ones where I’m holding my ATM card, trying to extract money from the automatic teller machine. The ATMs still use Windows XP, in case you’re wondering why their interfaces are so messed up. Interfaces aside, even the design language for ATM kiosks seems so archaic, it’s time they were updated.

These new ATMs are called Man-Machine ATMs. That’s because their machine design is based strongly on human proportions, making them an ergonomic delight. You can see the study down below, showing why they’re designed the way they are, so that no matter what your height, the screen is well in your cone of vision, and the card and cash slots perfectly angled and placed for your arms to reach them.

They take a massive upgrade on the design front too, with matte anodized metal finishes, like our smartphones, exuding a sense of class and style. The red LED strip on the side helps one locate the ATMs in the dark too. Plus they give the machine a rather amazing looking halo. Wouldn’t it be wonderful though if the LED changed color? Imagine the color turning green when it dispensed cash!

McDonald’s Testing a Big Mac “ATM”

What the!? ATMs are for money. Now they’re for burgers? Yep, now you can go to the ATM and get some money, then go to another ATM and get a Big Mac. The circle is now complete. In this case, ATM must stand for Artery Terrorizing Machine.

Yes, this is real. On January 31st, hungry people in Boston will have the opportunity to order McDonald’s Big Macs from a vending machine like this one. You can select from a Big Mac, a Mac Jr, or a Grand Mac. Obviously if it does well, you’ll eventually see these all over the place, in and out of McDonald’s.

It won’t be long until you be able to get fries, shakes, Happy Meals, Filet ‘O Fishes, Egg McMuffins, and everything else from an Mickey D’s ATM. But is it still McDonald’s if the food isn’t served by a pimply faced college kid?

Making America Great Again: The First Pizza ATM in North America

The world is a much better place now; a place of hope. That’s because Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio has installed the first pizza ATM in North America. I know. I feel it too. It is enough to bring a tear to your eye.

The machine was built by Paline and it holds up to 70 pre-cooked pizzas of many varieties at one time. You just place an order and a pizza is moved from the internal storage to a convection oven where it finishes cooking and is ready to serve in three minutes. Oh yes. This is change we can believe in.

I don’t know about you, but for the first time in a long time, I feel great about my country. God bless you, pizza ATM. God bless you.
