Superheroes Join Cancer Center’s Fight Against the Big ‘C’

Cancer sucks. There’s no cure (yet) – only prevention – and no one’s exempt from either getting it now or in the future. Every year, men and women, young and old, fall ill to the dreaded Big ‘C’. It’s a painful and difficult process for everyone, but probably more so for kids who might not completely understand what’s happening.

So to make things better, even just a little bit, the A.C. Camargo Cancer Center in São Paulo, Brazil teamed up with Warner Bros. to give their children’s cancer center a new look.

Superheroes vs Cancer

The theme? Superheroes. Chemotherapy has been rebranded as ‘superformula’ to fight against one of the biggest villains against humanity. IV bags are tucked into colorful Justice League-themed boxes to make them look cooler, and special comic books are handed out depicting how Justice League characters lost but then gained their powers after undergoing similar treatments as the young patients.

Superheroes vs Cancer1

(The) experience went far beyond the covers by also providing a new look to the entire Children’s Ward: the game room was turned into the Hall of Justice, corridors and doors were decorated in the same theme, and the exterior acquired an exclusive entrance for these little heroes… As any good cancer doctor will tell you, the most important step in fighting the disease is believing in a cure.

Belief breeds hope, and hope breeds strength. With a fighting spirit, cancer can be beaten, just like every other villain out there.

Don’t Mess With Nuclear: ‘Injustice League’ Takes Over North Korea’s Bills

Injustice League0

Remember the defaced US dollar bills featuring the Justice League? As tensions in the real world rise, things escalate in terms of currency as well, as North Korea’s bills have been defaced to feature the bad guys that have been collectively dubbed as the ‘Injustice League.’

The artistic series by German artist Aslan Malik transforms each denomination of the North Korean Won into a portrait of a supervillain from DC Comics, including the likes of Two Face, Joker, Bane, the Penguing, and Doomsday. Hit the break to check out the complete series.

justice league minifigs 1

These collectible Justice League figures were made by Japan’s Kotobukiya in collaboration with DC Comics and Zarigani Works[JP]. Each of these little superheroes features an stylized off-kilter, blocky look which I really dig.

You can’t see it in the pics, but they actually have wheels in their backs and turn into vehicles when you set them on a smooth surface too. They’re available in a set including Flash, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern – in both a plain or metallic finish. The full set of 10 sells for $55.99(USD) over at Entertainment Earth.

Justice League of America Defaced Bills: in Good We Trust

In the comics, the bad guys are always pretty obvious. In the real world, they look just like you and I. In the real world they run banks and pull scams on Wall Street. They work in our government. They get rich at the expense of others as they grow fat and laugh, while people starve on the street. Their name is greed and they are the vilest form of scum and villainy you will find. We need the Justice League to save our economy!

The team is on it thanks to artist Aslan Malik from Berlin, Germany. He put these cool ‘legal’ notes together to fight economic injustice in the world. There is Hamilton as Batman, Jackson as Wonder Woman, Ben Franklin as the Green Lantern, Lincoln as the Flash and Ulysses S. Grant as Superman.

He did a great job on these. If real money was this cool, people would still be spending cash instead of using their debit cards.

The Kia Optima Batmobile: Batman’s Spare Car

Kia Motors, DC Entertainment, and RIDES Magazine unveiled their first of 8 Justice League-inspired Kias at the recent 2012 New York Comic Con. The launch was part of DC’s “We Can Be Heroes” campaign, which helps fight famine in Africa.

This Batman-inspired Optima was on display at New York’s Time Warner Center and is the beginning of a 10-month partnership based on the characters that make up the Justice League. They hope to raise awareness of the charity campaign, which Batman would certainly approve of.

I’m not sure that Batman would ever buy a Kia, but I love what they have done with this car. It certainly looks great with the whole Batman theme – especially that grill.
