Rado’s new edition Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton watch sports a unique colorway and innovative movement

Skeleton watches are not new to Rado’s watchmaking prowess. Over the years, such models have been through some stunning color combinations. Following on the success from the past, Rado introduces Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton watch in a fresh plasma and rose gold color scheme.

The latest addition to the Captain Cook line, this High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton, in addition to flaunting plasma colorway (Rado’s interpretation of gunmetal silver) with gold assents, is powered by an innovative R808 mechanical movement, which is a true masterpiece of creativity, technical skill, and contrasts.

Designer: Rado

This stunning 43mm watch is the first to imbibe this unique colorway and exploit the diversity of ceramic. With a thickness of 14.6mm and a dimension of 43.0mm thick, the matt-finished monobloc case of the watch is beautifully encircled by a brushed plasma high-tech ceramic bezel insert that complements the case styling.

The rotatable bezel of the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton houses a bright rose-gold-hued index ring, while its minimalistic dial features hour, minute, and seconds hands treated with white Super-LumiNova for easy readability in low light.

The watch is topped with a boxy sapphire crystal treated with double anti-reflective coating on both faces. However, the highlight of the skeletonized timepiece is the in-house movement, the distinctive view of whose components can be peeked at through the dial. The epitome of functionality and craftsmanship, the movement offers an 80-hour power reserve and comes equipped with an anti-magnetic Nivachron hairspring.

This Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton is water-resistant up to 300 meters and it comes paired with a bracelet made from plasma high-tech ceramic and titanium. Rado’s new edition of the Captain Cook is priced at £4,150 (roughly, $5,000).

The all-ceramic Rado wristwatch uses a minimal design to celebrate the material used

Remember the old pocket watches with the protective housing to safeguard the precious dial and the inner working mechanism? We have evolved quite far from that form factor of the very early watches – ending up with outrageous watch designs that call for attention. No doubt watch enthusiasts like owning the rarest timepieces that have a story associated with them or some kind of completely unrelated winning design inspiration. This watch by award-winning Dutch design house Formafantasma for Swiss watchmaking pro Rado, goes back to the roots in terms of sheer design – bringing back the nostalgic watch aesthetics to the fore. As Rado rightly said, “This special design edition draws on the historic idea of a closed watch to create a bold and impactful style statement that is designed to stand the test of time.”

A design that’s minimalistic, sans any fancy bodywork or dial movement that at times can be a bit too gaudy for someone who gives utmost value to time – and time alone! Aptly named the True Square Formafantasma, the rare wristwatch is the work of Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, who’ve both rendered a closed dial ceramic case design and bracelet to perfection. Being crafted from the highest quality ceramic material, the watch stands-out with an all-white appearance. The automatic movement is of course Avanade garte Swiss actuated to perfection by Rado.

Pitched as a unisex watch, it has the sapphire crystal protecting the delicate mechanism inside – giving the just required glimpse of the current time via the contrasting watch hands in grey or matching white on the otherwise opaque watch face. On the back, the timepiece has a hypoallergenic titanium cover for all-day comfort. Just imagine sporting it for a high profile party with all-white attire or contrasting black or gray clothing. All eye-balls will be one you – for better or worse!

Rado revisits its iconic True Square Collection with a modern yellow watch just in time for Christmas!

Rado’s innovative True Square collection rocked the world of watches by introducing the first square watch crafted using injected monobloc high-tech ceramic casing to fill out a square-shaped wristwatch, the first of its kind. Today, Rado has collaborated with British designer Tej Chauhan, and together, they’ve designed their own reinterpretation of the iconic True Square wristwatch.

Reintroducing the True Square watch, under joint creative direction with Tej Chauhan, Rado brings a refreshing revamp to the classic timepiece we’ve come to love. Tej Chauhan’s take on the True Square maintains the timepiece’s square case as the basis for the watch but coats it in retro-inspired, lemon yellow drip with a matte-like texture in order to bring the unique touch that only ceramic molding can deliver. Bright, yellow leather cushioning fills out the strap of the watch to offer maximum comfort for every user, while matte yellow ceramic pieces connect each stainless steel element together. The watch is water-resistant for up to 50 meters and operates using the ETA C07.611 automatic movement.

The back of the square case was produced using PVD-coated stainless steel, which ensures the user’s comfort as PVD-coated stainless steel offers the same feeling as liquid metal, landing softly on your wrist and offering a cooling, metallic accent to the watch as a whole. The watch face itself has a concave glass dome that gives the art of time-telling an immersive touch. Etched along the perimeter of the square timepiece are sleek, thin minute-markers, symmetrically interrupted with bolder, thicker hour-markers. Imitating the look of a sonar radar, twelve concentric circles emanate from the timepiece’s nucleus, giving the True Square watch a focal point to inform users of the time of day or date.

Chauhan designed this wristwatch with the user in mind first and foremost. By using an Emotive Industrial Design approach, this new True Square design embraces both user-friendliness and visibly striking design details, offering a watch that’s both visually approachable and enticing for everyone. The latest addition to the True Square collection from Rado is one that’s intuitive in its impressive technological design structure, but also one that’s as classic as it comes. Up-to-date technological features fill out this watch and unbeatable, singular design color and material schemes comprise a watch that’s so distinguishable and attention-grabbing, it’ll leave even the most devout of watch aficionados suddenly asking for the time.
