Your garage is like your second home. It’s where you work on your car, and where you go to get away from it all. It’s your sanctuary and you’ve spent a fortune buying only the best tool boxes and tools. You could fit a regular fridge in there for refreshments and such… but why not just go with the Versional Portable Garage Toolbox? When I wrote about Black Hat Oculus at the beginning of the month, I loved the concept, but was not a fan of the game’s weird, headache-inducing visual style. That’s why I was happy to read about Clandestine today. It offers the same agent-and-support co-op gameplay in a much more realistically rendered setting. No, it’s not designed solely to take advantage of VR’s opportunities, and while that may reduce the cool factor, it does make it much more accessible.
One player is sneaking around doing cool spy stuff like choosing her equipment, neutralizing guards, and gathering intelligence while the other is hacking security systems, arranging for equipment caches to be placed, bribing guards, and performing other tasks that the spy needs to survive. Co-op games are fun, and I feel like Portal 2 opened the floodgates for asymmetrical co-op games. I think it’s more interesting when each player is doing something different, rather than just running through the game together shooting in the same directions.
Clandestine is on Steam Early Access now, so if you’re itching to play it, just go do it.
I’ve been driving around a Super Motard motorcycle for the last six months, and let me tell you, it’s extremely loud, so loud that my neighbors have asked me to start it outside the courtyard where it’s usually parked. One friend said that it sounded like my bike had eaten another one for breakfast. While all this racket is a fun part of having a motorcycle, you can imagine how this would be problematic for military motorcycles.
With that in mind, DARPA has commissioned the development of a stealth motorcycle, which would allow soldiers to ride for long periods of time without emitting much noise. The bike, would use an extended-range hybrid-electric engine, and will be built by BRD and Logos Technologies. In addition to its stealthy operating capabilities, the bike will have all-wheel drive to help tackle difficult terrain.
Electric and hybrid bikes also make sense for commuters, especially in city traffic. Switching over to electric drive would mean no shifting and reduced noise, and of course lower fuel costs. Also, I’d probably not get any complaints from neighbors either.

After limbering up with taxi tests since December, the X-47B unmanned combat air system has finally taken off from an aircraft carrier, making it the first pilotless plane to have successfully done so, and with a catapult launch to boot. Despite the craft's ability to fly on its own, it was controlled by a human aboard the George H.W. Bush after it was flung from the ship. Once in the air, the Northrop Grumman-built craft was guided back for a landing on a runway planted on terra firm. Now that the bird's proved it can handle launches at sea, other excursions will put the automatic navigation and landing features through their paces.
