Littertainment!
If I told you that a garbage bin won a design award in Sydney and the coveted IxDA interaction design award, you’d wonder what I was talking about. Well, TetraBIN is literally (litter-aly!) an award winning trash can. Why is that? Because it makes trash disposal so unique and fun, it became an instant iconic art-installation in itself!
The bin is separated into three compartments, and has a massive 8-bit style screen on the outside, running all around the periphery of the bin. When switched on, the bin runs its own version of the block-dropping game Tetris, allowing you to somewhat maneuver the blocks by throwing garbage into the bin. Turn debris to tetris I say!

Volvo ROAR Project Takes out the Trash
Volvo is working on a slick autonomous vehicle project with a Swedish refuse company that is aiming to automate the task of picking up your trash and taking it to the truck for dumping. The process needs a human driver for the truck (for now) and otherwise the process of picking up the can, schlepping it to the truck, and dumping it is automated.
The modified truck has a platform on the back where the ROAR robot rides. In the air is a quadrotor drone that has LIDAR, GPS and other sensors that help the land drone avoid obstacles and find its way to trash bins. The ROAR itself has sensors aboard to precisely guide it to the bin and pick it up.
It seems to work well, though it might have some trouble hunting down Colin Furze’s garbage. I can see a future iteration for this project that could see completely automated refuse handling including an autonomous truck that drives around on its own.

The Future of Trash Technology!
Why is replacing the trash bag after you empty the garbage SO annoying?! All that unfolding, flapping it open and securing it sometimes takes even longer than carrying the old one out. The Bottomless Bin revolutionizes the way you replace the bag. When you pull out the old one, a fresh, new one is there and ready to use. Simply place it at the bottom of your waste bin to make your life a little easier!

A Beach’s Best Friend
Not your typical MD, Dr. Recare is the autonomous mobile doctor designed to make marine cleanup a cinch. The 3D printing craft cleans sand, extracting plastic garbage from the other waste before heating it and applying to a mold to create a newly printed recycling bin. The new bin is placed in strategic locations at the beach where it’s needed most! It’s mobile 3D printing at its best!

Trash Never Looked So Good
Call it a garbage can, trashcan, whatever you want… the bottom line is, they’re generally so U.G.L.Y. that you want to put them in the garbage themselves! The Swingbin is not one of these. It’s so sculptural you might not even recognize it as a waste bin. No screws, gears or wires, its seamless form is achieved with a unique tilting motion of the balanced lid. Even its name sounds clean!
