Close your eyes and think of a wallet. It’s extremely likely that what you’re thinking of is made of leather, folds down through the middle, comes with flaps, compartments, pockets, and is stitched or glued together. Open your eyes. What if a walled didn’t have to have any of those things?

The GO Wallet distills the very idea of a wallet down to its basics. What do you need from your wallet? For it to carry money and for it to not get stolen or lost… right? For added convenience, you can just keep your frequently used cards on top, to make things a wee bit faster. The wallet’s inherent RFID/NFC-blocking construction prevents you from falling victim to any unsolicited payments or digital fraud, and as long as your cards are stored inside the GO Wallet, nobody can swipe or scan them while you’re not looking. But wait, what happens when your wallet gets left behind somewhere… or worse, stolen? Well, that’s where the GO Tracker Card comes in.

Created as a collaboration with tech company Innway, the GO Tracker Card looks like any other credit or loyalty card, but is, in fact, a comprehensive tracking device that allows you to keep tabs on your wallet at all times. It fits into the wallet, right along with your other cards (so a thief doesn’t ever find out), and allows you to actively track it within its range using the Innway app. If the wallet goes out of range, the app records its last known position. To make sure the situation never comes to that eventuality, a Separation Alarm feature allows your phone to alert you when your wallet isn’t near you and vice versa.

Moreover, if you’re a bit of a scatterbrain like I am, you can even give your wallet a call and it’ll “ring” to alert you of its location. This feature works both ways, so you can even ring your phone using your wallet… or conversely, use your wallet as a selfie remote to click pictures remotely. Neat, eh? The GO Tracker Card’s internal battery lasts for an average of 4 months on a full charge, and as for the GO Wallet itself, the designers promise to fix it if it gets damaged, or replace it if it can’t get fixed. Quite an upgrade over those archaic tattered, bulky leather wallets people still cling onto.

The Vext Slim’s clever design gives you a better wallet, with less material

There are two ways of going about designing an object. You could either A. look at previous versions of the object and try to improve upon them, or B. look at the problems the object was trying to solve and design a product that simply solves those problems. The Vext Slim feels a lot like the latter.

Rather than improving on traditional wallet designs, the Vext Slim looks at the contents of the modern wallet and the user’s needs and behavior patterns. In doing so, the Vext Slim behaves a lot like a great wallet, but don’t expect it to look like some rehashed version of a bifold or a money-clip, because it wasn’t designed with those products as a reference.

The Vext Slim’s design brief could arguably be summarized into three words. Smart, versatile storage. The wallet comes as a holster for your cards, made either out of carbon fiber or anodized aluminum (two materials known for their high strength-to-weight ratio). The wallet holds as many as 9 cards in a format that allows you to easily pick and choose cards with a single thumb. Swipe down for a card you don’t want to use, until you arrive at the right card, for which you swipe up… It’s essentially like Tinder for your cards. You can either pull out your active card to swipe it, or scan its chip right from within the wallet without taking it out… all with a single hand, making it easier to use if you’ve got one hand occupied, or better still, for someone with disabilities.

YeongKyu Yoo of cloudandco has designed two wallets that are extremely slim – WalletType1 and SlimWalletType1. The former is a bi-fold design with 6 pockets, and the latter is a card wallet with 2 pockets. Both of them look to be a solution to the above problem.

The key to the form are the layers and the invisible stitches. Sporting a multi-layer construction with uniform thickness, the edges of the wallets are precisely painted for the ultimate seamless look. The wallets look like a solid sheet of beautiful leather and nothing more.

A Simple Initiative

Our goal was simple — to create a wallet that feels like one in the hands. A monolith to the eye, without any visible seams. To achieve such a form, we hid all the magic underneath. Below the surface lies up to 13 layers of construction, depending on the wallet. Each layer is artfully engineered. The resulting form is a fluid shape that is seamless, slim and durable — effortless on the surface, thoughtful within.
