The Burch Barrel’s redesigning grilling system is the best I’ve ever seen

One could argue that there isn’t much you can do to reinvent the grill. Put heat below, food on top, and voila… you’ve got yourself a barbecue. In that regard, the BURCH BARREL is quite similar to the Dyson Bladeless fan. It took a product-category that nobody thought could be reinvented and really showed how a new format could really push the boundaries of design, efficiency, and human perception. The BURCH BARREL isn’t like any conventional barbecue pit out there, and that’s a conscious choice on the part of the designer, who believed that it was possible to create a better product that works as a grill, smoker, and as well as a firepit. The BURCH BARREL gives you unprecedented control over your barbecue process. You can operate the barbecue lid without having to touch it, or rest the grill on any uneven surface without worrying about it falling over, you can even lift the grill plate off the coal-pan to add more fuel. Moreover, when you’re not grilling food, the BURCH BARREL doubles up as a portable fireplace for those perfect sunset social gatherings.

The barrel’s design is immediately striking, with a large tripod system that has the barrel suspended from the very center. This unique format keeps the barrel balanced and vertical at all times, allowing you to mount it on rocky terrain or even on slanted surfaces without any fear of the barrel tipping over. Inspired by a camera’s tripod, the BURCH BARREL comes with telescopic legs that let you orient the unit to be stable, no matter how unstable your ground is, giving it a competitive advantage over regular barbecue grills that traditionally require a flat surface like a pavement to begin with.

Right on one of its telescopic adjustable legs lies a movable grip that slides up and down to lift and lower the grill’s lid. Rather than holding onto a potentially hot handle, this sliding sleeve lets you easily check on your food while keeping you away from the fire and hot metal. Additionally, the lid itself comes with an interlocking system that lets you lift the food-grate up along with the lid, giving you complete access to the coal-pan, allowing you to add more fuel over time without taking your food off the grill. Keep your food cooking while you crank up the heat!

Along with being able to easily operate the lid and lift the food-grate, the BURCH BARREL features a mechanism to adjust the height of the coal bed, bringing it either closer to your food for a great sear, or moving it to as much as 12 inches away to decrease the thermal energy, but to amp up the smokiness. The coal bed works with both wood as well as charcoal, burning them cleanly, while giving you the ability to choose between char-grilling your food or roasting marshmallows over an open bonfire.

BURCH BARREL: We Were Meant To Grill This Way

From the backyard to base camp, the BURCH BARREL is a portable fire-brewing barrel that burns both wood and charcoal. It hangs suspended between the legs of the EverLevel Tripod, and functions as a gathering point where family and friends can cook, eat, and relax together under the stars.

Barbeque in the summer, stay warm in the winter with this grungy 4-in-1 concrete grill

With the onset of autumn, barbeque season is at its peak! But with winter barely around the corner, I’m sure we all want to get our stomach’s worth of grilling done before the cold truly sets in, and it seems like the Brazilian brand Noori has decided to give us a helping hand.  If you’ve been tempted to treat yourself to an updated version of your old BBQ grill, well then hold your horses because Noori’s multipurpose stove, the V01 model will do it all for you. It functions not only as a rocket stove but as a barbeque, pizza oven, and fire pit. From ribs, burgers, hot dogs to wood-fired pizza, the V01 functions as a versatile cooker for all occasions. The inspiration behind the product was to take us to a time when “cooking with fire was at the core of our rituals”.

Designer: Noori

Contemporary, compact and easily portable the V01 comprises a rounded bullet-like body modeled from heat- resistant refractory concrete. An L-shape enamel pipe transports the fuel through the body of the stove to the grilling surface. The multipurpose stove optimizes the combustion of fuel, allowing us to completely skip out on the unwanted smoke that slithers out during the cooking process. The base consists of wheels, allowing us to easily transport, store and arrange the stove depending on the occasion and the location.  “The goal was to design a product where a ragu, a feijoada, a pasta, a pizza, grilled vegetables, and meat could be prepared,” Eduardo Gayotto, the designer behind Noori added. “We wanted to break with the limitations of a standard barbecue.” And as we can see the featured highlight 0f V01 remains it’s modularity.

Noori can be used as a permaculture vertical ‘Rocket Stove’. The wood-burning stove, aided with its ability to ensure complete fuel combustion, can be used to cook various recipes with diverse cooking utensils such as pans, casseroles and other stovetop dishes.

However, you can amp up your cooking sessions by adding charcoal to the mix or by simply combining wood and charcoal, which transforms the stove into a ‘Churrasqueira’ or a BBQ Grill. A lid with a built-in temperature gauge can be used to prepare smoked food. A blend of different woods can be used to enhance the flavor of the food while it sears on the grate.

Probably my favorite use of the Noori V01 is that it functions as a pizza oven! Traditional wood pizza ovens can be bulky and cumbersome, and not something we can easily place in our homes, hence the portable Noori is sure to be a fan favorite!  It comes along with a Noori pizza disk, which can be used to prepare a pizza in about 4 minutes. You discard the central element and place the pizza disk on the stovetop, which can heat up to 750 degrees Fahrenheit, depending upon how much wood you use as fuel.

And of course last but not the least, it serves as a wood fire pit, warming up even the coldest of days. It can burn both wood and charcoal. The complete refractory body can be used to burn wood, whereas the toned-down version involving only the burner functions as a charcoal burner.

A 4 in 1 grill with good looks and easy portability to fall back upon? I think I know what I for Christmas this year!

BB-8 Fire Pit: Pyro-Mech Droid

BB-8 is a fan favorite, loved every bit as much as R2-D2. So you might have noticed fans creating all kinds of BB-8 goodies over the last year. Now here he is as a fire pit. This thing is awesome and belongs in my yard.

It is a beautiful representation of the roly-poly droid. I always knew he had fire in his belly. It was custom made by Alex Dodson in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. To think, this guy started life as a 12.5 kg LPG cylinder and was then made into this amazing BB-8.

Too bad it doesn’t roll around like crazy, but I guess that would be a fire hazard.

Star Wars Death Star Fire Pit

star-wars-death-star-fire-pit

One of the coolest ways to get a fire going is by reliving the destruction of the Death Star with the Star Wars Death Star Fire Pit.

Not the first of its kind, this recent Death Star Fire Pit is a custom made fire pit, part of a high school welding project that got auctioned off. The winner of the auction gave it to redditor Alphacodemonkey as a gift, and he posted the pictures to Imgur and Reddit.

How was it made? The Sphere used to be a propane tank. One of the art students drew up the designs on paper. Then they cut it up using a hand plasma cutter. That was followed by painting it with a high temp engine black paint. The finish was attaching some stainless steel pieces.

The end result? One of the best fire pits you’ll ever get to see or use. One might say it’s not just a recreation of the Death Star, but also a recreation of how it blew up, thanks to the one glaring weakness that got exposed twice.

The story of this Death Star gets even more interesting. Apparently, it was auctioned off and the winner gave it to Redditor alphacodemonkey as a gift. Just gave it to them. Who gives away Death Stars like that? That is one nice person. Man, I wish I had this in my backyard.

The World’s Second Coolest Grandpa Made This Death Star Fire Pit

If you want to be a cool granddad, make cool stuff for your grandchildren. Mine made me a waxed Captain America shield that protected me from water balloons, thrown dirt clods, and many other projectiles, as well as a tree house, and a ton of other stuff that kids love. Moreover, he’s more or less a Clint Eastwood character; when I went to visit him shortly after his 87th birthday he was climbing a tree while one-handing a running chainsaw upon my arrival. As such, the titles of “World’s Coolest Granddad” is taken.

A different granddad has taken building cool stuff for his descendants to heart, and is now the runner-up for that prestigious title on account of this awesome Death Star fire pit. Redditor Bandia5309 just received this as a present and took to the web to show it off. We’re all thankful, and a bit jealous. Why couldn’t grandpa have also made a picture tutorial?

Sailing Ship Fire Pit: Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Barbecue Sauce

That is not some galley on fire after a massive battle on the high seas. As you can see from the scenery around it, this is a burning ship on land, mateys. All the better to grill your meat with. Too bad the fire isn’t green, otherwise this would be an awesome Game of Thrones Blackwater Bay fire pit. But it is still pretty amazing.

Most of us can’t barbecue on the high seas, so something like this badass fire pit will have to do. Put some burgers on deck and some weenies in the rigging and set sail for deliciousness as you use your meats to re-enact all kinds of classic sea battle scenes.

This is the coolest fire pit I’ve seen in quite a while. Well, the hottest too. Must resist to the urge to build one for my backyard.
