Game Boy mod plays nearly any classic Nintendo game

It's trivial to play vintage Nintendo games if you're not picky about what devices you use. But what if you miss the look and feel of the original Game Boy? Wermy has an answer: build a Game Boy that does it all. His Game Boy Zero modification uses a...

‘The Legend of Zelda’ marks its 30th birthday

LaundryBoy Hamper: It’s Game on for Dirty Clothes

Looking for a hamper that fits your geek lifestyle? Look no further than the LaundryBoy hamper. It might actually make you want to pick your clothes up off the floor for once and put them where they belong.

laundryboy_hamper_1zoom in

The design is based on the original Game Boy handheld gaming device that many of us grew up with. However, this version is for big boys and girls who do more adult stuff like cleaning up, instead of playing games. Stupid adult chores!

It measures 26″ x 18″ x 12″ and the game displayed on it is a Pokémon style version of you going up against the laundry with a bottle of detergent. This awesome hamper is only $19.99(USD) at ThinkGeek, and you know it beats whatever boring hamper you are currently (not) using.

Gameboy Slider Puzzle

game over puzzle
The Game Over Puzzle might look like a squarish version of a GameBoy but it’s a battery-free old school game instead. Instead of a retro handheld gaming system you get a retro handheld sliding puzzle game. Slide the plastic blocks around to arrange them properly so the “screen” reads “game over” and you’re a winner. Don’t worry if you can’t do it, in our book you’re a winner no matter what, champ.
game over puzzle solved
Solved it. It’s just like Tetris except you don’t have to go into a panic attack while waiting for that straight piece to finally show up so you can drop 4 lines at once. Or not at all like Tetris. But it’s still fun to play.

GameBoy Pokemon Mug: Cup of Charmander

This ceramic mug combines video game nostalgia with your morning coffee. It looks a Game Boy playing Pokémon. Sorry, not a Game Boy – it’s a Nintendo Café Boy, since it delivers caffeine.

Now you can relive your favorite memories of playing Pokémon as a kid, while you drink up and wake yourself for a job that does not involve catching fictional vermin and making them fight.

The screen shows Charmander using a scratch attack against Squirtle. It only plays one scene from one game, but this mug will serve you endless cups of coffee. Some of the other versions are shown above. The mug is only about $12(USD) from Etsy seller SandstormForever. That’s not bad for both a video game and caffeine delivery system.

Portable Pieces: Nintendo Game Boy Themed Shogi Board

Nintendo Game Boy Themed Shogi Board by den image 1

Be impressed to pieces by this Nintendo Game Boy themed Shogi game board.

Shogi is a board game steep with ancient Japanese tradition, dating all the way back to the 16th century. Heck, there’s a good chance if you’ve ever seen a samurai flick, you might have seen it being played. And recently, it just received an amusing,  facelift taken from a more modern Japanese invention, the Nintendo Game Boy.

Japanese gaming outfitters, den, created this unique version of Shogi that uses miniature Nintendo Game Boy as game board pieces. Printed on every individual Game Boy’s screen is the Japanese characters that identify which piece is which too, a rather cute touch that represents the amount of craftsmanship that went into its making – and – it’s outstanding $1200 price tag.

Realistically, these are wood-based pieces, so the high quality certainly accounts for the high price. And, it’s beautiful to boot. The kind of item I could have sitting on a coffee table in my imaginary million-dollar mansion. Unfortunately, the Game Boy themed Shogi board is currently sold out, so my imaginary mansion will sadly go without it. Dang, what a shame.

Turn Your iPhone into a Game Boy with G-Pad

gpad Turn Your iPhone into a Game Boy with G Pad
The idea is quite simple (all the best ones are, right?)- add a silicone sleeve to turn your iPhone into a Game Boy-like device. The G-Pad does just that, giving you physical controls just like the og handheld distraction. The sleeve is designed to work with a specific Game Boy Advance emulator for iOS that puts the controls on the bottom of the screen. The G-Pad slides right over the onscreen controls, replacing them with a button overlay.

Everyone knows that all the best games were released back in the day anyway- Tetris, Donkey Kong, Mario, etc. Well at least the best for mobile phone gaming anyway- the simpler the better. That’s why games like Angry Birds and Flappy Bird are so popular- simplicity. Also people like birds I guess. Anywho, neat product that takes something new and brings it back to the good old days without losing today’s needed functionality (like Facebook and Candy Crush). (via coolest gadgets)

Travel Boy Carry On Luggage Is Avoiding Licensing Fees, But We Know What’s Up

game-boy-luggage-1

This is a cool looking carry-on bag. It looks like a Game Boy, but it’s called a Travel Boy. Clearly someone didn’t feel like sharing a portion of the profits with Nintendo, though we suspect that if the company gave a crap, they could probably still sue. Isn’t the design of the Game Boy trademarked, like the Coke bottle shape? We don’t really know, but we can tell you a least that the bag is all of $70, which is really not that much for luggage. Taking a look at the details, it doesn’t look like a toy/novelty bag either but something you could conceivably use in real life, all the while professing your love for the classic gaming device.
