LEGO Super Mario Bros. Floor Lamp Can Be Your For A Princely Sum

Everything in life comes at a price. The price you pay for not having the patience or the skill to build a magnificent 27.5″ tall, and 10″ square Super Mario Bros. floor lamp is an outrageous $2,200(USD). And let’s be honest, you know that if you had that kind of disposable income, you’d be it yesterday. Right?

This is a Mario Brothers themed Lego light that can also be used to hold your keys, wallet, sunglasses, whatever. The lights are LEDs and they are operated by remote control. Via the remote you can turn the light on and off, change the color, turn the brightness up or down, and the lights have some color changing effects as well.

It’s made by Etsy seller PugsnLegos, who fortunately has other similar (but smaller) items for sale at more reasonable prices.

Mario Bros. Doorbell: Is the Princess in this Castle?

mario doorbell Mario Bros. Doorbell: Is the Princess in this Castle?
Joseph Thai hacked together this incredible Mario Doorbell for his apartment. Not only does the doorbell make a coin sound from Mario every time the button is pressed, it also increases the digital counter displayed. Every 10 “coins” collected makes the life-up sound and every 100 makes the mushroom upgrade sound to be played. See and hear it in action here in this demo video:

As Gizmodo points out there is one HUGE fatal flaw in this otherwise awesome doorbell system- the doorbell rings. While normally you want a bell to ring to announce a guest at your door, when the guest has an incentive to press the doorbell over and over and over again, it might get sliiiiiightly annoying inside the house. My dog would go bonkers if someone rang the bell 100 times, just crazy.

Mario Bros. Industrial Pipe Lamp: The Awesomest Lamp to Light Up Your Room

Mario Bros. Theme Industrial Pipe Lamp

Mario’s one of those video game characters who I think is truly deserving of the ‘Super’ title. He climbs down tunnels, chucks fireballs, and takes to the sky (provided he’s got the raccoon suit on), all in his quest to save the princess.

Now you can have a functional memento of Mario in action thanks to TRoweDesigns. They specialize in Steampunk, industrial-type lamps like this one inspired by the Mario Bros. franchise. It’s got a single light held up by a black iron pipe that’s encased in a vintage glass insulator to light up your room.

Probably the awesomest part about the lamp is how you’re supposed to switch it on. There are no buttons to press or switches to flick, because all you have to do is pull the chain where Mario’s hanging from and, voila! You’ve got light!

If Mario’s not your guy, you can choose to have your lamp feature Luigi, Toad, or Yoshi.

The Mario Bros. lamp is priced at $189.35 and is available for purchase online.

Custom Mario Guitar: Its-a Me, Guitario!

If I could play the guitar and play it well, then I’d definitely go out and try to score myself one of these awesome customized Mario Bros. guitars. I mean, just look at it.

Awesome Mario Guitar

Of course, the first thing I’d actually play is a rocked-out version of the Super Mario Bros. theme. How about you?

This custom guitar was made by ’geekd out’, who hails from Australia. He describes it as:

24 Fret, Full size, amazing quality. Full floating tremolo, Locking neck, Easy access to the top of the neck, Mushroom inlays, amazing sound, and looks fantastic.

Here’s a clip of him playing his awesome guitar:

Looks like the Super Mario guitar is for sale up on G33KeD for $489 Australian Dollars (~$500 USD), and you’d better move quick if you want one. You never know if Nintendo’s lawyers will swoop in and try and stop to this wonderful (but likely unofficial) guitar.

3D Mario Time Lapse Art Creation Captured on Video

Like most gamers that grew up in the 80s, I’m a big fan of Super Mario Bros. This is one of the most iconic games from my youth, right up there along with Pac-Man. In tribute to Mario, an artist named Chris Carlson has created a truly epic piece of 3D chalk artwork.

3d mario

It’s amazing to me that the image he draws is made with plain old chalk, yet looks completely three-dimensional. Carlson and his friend shot a time-lapse video to give you an idea how he creates the 3D art. It’s very impressive how he pulls it off starting with a flat perspective grid used to draw all the blocks for the pixel art Mario. He also uses a large metal ruler and copious amounts of chalk.

You need to watch the video for yourself to see how he pulls it off.  The video even has the familiar Super Mario theme song in the background, ensuring that it will be stuck in your head all day. I wonder how long it took Chris to create the image – it’s hard to tell since it’s a time-lapse video.
