The Best Mario Game Ever

With all of the various Super Mario Bros. and related games out there, game fans have lots of choices for their favorite Mario game. But what if you could combine them all into a single game? That’s exactly what video maker 4096 decided to do, mashing up levels from numerous Mario games into a giant connected game level.

The tricky video features some of the Italian plumber’s many appearances, along with his progenitor, Jumpman, who first turned up in the arcade in Donkey Kong, then made his official debut in Mario Bros.

Check out the all-too-short video clip below:

Nintendo, you really need to make this into a game so we can play thorough a single endless level comprised of every Mario game ever. I’d pay good money to play that.

Mario Question Block Piggy Bank Isn’t Just for Gold Coins

If you ever played Super Mario Bros., you know the thrill of running across one of those question mark blocks. Bop Mario’s fist against that thing over and over and you never know how many coins or other goodies would come out. If you remember the box, you remember the coin sound as well.

ThinkGeek has a Mario Question Block Money Box that you can drop your coins into. It makes the sounds from the game with each coin you put in. It’s sort of the reverse of the box in the game. It’s just $15.99(USD) and will accept any size coins, so it works with all currencies.

On the other hand, it has no lock so your kids can easily pilfer your change as needed for snacks. This bank will go perfectly with the Coin Box Lamp I talked about last year.

Top 8 Best Mario Bros T-Shirts

No matter who you are, you’ve likely heard of Mario. Nintendo’s mascot, the famous Italian plumber, is one of the most popular characters of all time, and the Super Mario Bros video game series is one of the most successful franchises ever.

From the classic NES game, to Mario Galaxy, to Mario Kart, Mario Party, and even Mario at the Olympic games, this franchise spans all kinds of genres and has games to suit all audiences. Of course, if you’re a real Mario fan, you’ll need a t-shirt to show off your love! Here’s a great selection of tees to let everyone know you’re a fan.

Retro 8-Bit Mario T-shirt

To me, 8-bit Mario is the most nostalgic and memorable. I grew up playing the original Mario Bros game on the NES. Yes, it was released a decade before I was even born, but as a young child, I played NES and SNES games. I can still remember playing through the first level of Mario Bros over and over again, having a blast each time. This t-shirt brings back so many great memories, therefore making a great addition to any closet.

Super Mario Bros 3 Toddler T-Shirt

Can you say adorable? I’ve never much been into kids, but if I were to have one, I’d be dressing them in geek garb all the time. I absolutely love this t-shirt, not to mention Super Mario Bros 3 is a fantastic game.

Nintendo Mario Red T-Shirt

Simple and stylish, this t-shirt would look great paired with a jacket or cardigan. It’s casual, but not too casual, even non-gamers will appreciate this shirt. I’m a huge fan of simplistic designs, and this t-shirt is no exception.

Mario Print Retro T-Shirt

I know I just said I love simplistic designs, and simple this t-shirt is not. Yet, it’s just so fun! There’s all kinds of bright, warm colors, it looks like a comic book painted onto a shirt. I think this t-shirt is gorgeous and I love that it features many Mario characters. Most of the t-shirts on this list feature Mario only, but this one showcases the other great characters in the series.

Luigi T-Shirt

All right, back to the simplistic designs. Luigi is such an underrated character, it’s unfair. He stars in his own great series, Luigi’s Mansion, and he’s just as cool as Mario. (Even though he’s a wimp). I think this t-shirt is great, because just the hat and mustache are iconic enough on their own without Luigi’s face.

Mario Tanooki T-Shirt

Okay, I’ll admit when I first saw the Tanooki, I thought it was a raccoon. And of course, almost immediately, I thought, why the heck is a raccoon flying? Then I did some research and found out that no, it’s not a raccoon, it’s actually a tanuki, a Japanese raccoon dog. (So almost a raccoon). Tanuki’s can’t fly, but whatever, this is a video game, and the tanooki suit is an awesome item in Mario games. Plus, this t-shirt is cute. Really cute.

Classic Mario T-Shirt

Much like an earlier entry on this list, this t-shirt brings so much nostalgia into my gamer heart. The NES controller, 8-bit Mario, and all of the other memorable aspects of this classic game are featured on this t-shirt. I find it to be absolutely awesome. Excuse me while I go plug in my NES and fire up Mario Bros. Maybe this time I’ll make it past level one; don’t judge young me, I was terrible at games.

Super Mario Bros Super Show T-Shirt

Who remembers the Super Mario Bros Super Show? No? You probably mentally blocked it, and I don’t blame you. This TV show is crazy, with terrible acting and probably the most racist portrayal of Italians I’ve ever seen, but it makes for some memorable TV viewing. Fortunately, the majority of the show is animated, and its animated parts are far better than the live action parts. This t-shirt features animated Mario and Luigi, the part of the show which you should remember.

Did you see a t-shirt that caught your eye? I could have easily picked a dozen more, because there are so many great Mario t-shirts out there. If you didn’t find one that struck your fancy here, there are plenty more to be found! Happy shopping!

Hat-wearing Hamster Owns Super Mario Maze

I used to think hamsters were cool until about 1990 when the field behind our house caught fire and all the field mice fled… right into our house. The little fuzzy bastards apparently liked it there and they would wake me up at all hours of the night doing whatever mice do in the dark. Now I can’t stand rodentia of any sort.

Some Japanese folks built an awesome Super Mario Bros. maze for their hamster to run through and the little guy dominated the maze. It’s a bit like Ninja Warrior, only for tiny rodents.

The video is well worth a watch. I guess hamsters can be pretty cute as long as they aren’t running loose in my house.

Mario Question Block Light Dispenses Light, Not Coins

Any child of the ’80s or retro gamer has probably played Mario Bros. at one time or another. If you have ever played that game you will remember the sound effects and the question mark box that got us so excited when we played. You never knew exactly what you would get when you bopped that box with your little 8-bit fist.

If you want t relive that box bopping feature in the real world, you need this Question Mark Block Light. The little lamp looks just like the box from the game and when you press its top, the light comes on and it makes the ping sound from the game.

No coins fly out of the box nor do mushrooms that make you bigger. Only a warm yellow glow spills out along with sounds to make anyone near you annoyed after a while. The light gets power from a USB port so you need either a wall adapter or a PC to run this thing. It sells for about $36(USD) at Firebox.

Luigi Wouldn’t Recognize Mario Sans Mustache and Hat

Two of the most famous characters in the Nintendoverse are Mario and Luigi, the Super Mario Bros. Mario is one of those characters that is completely fixed to his outfit and grooming style. Without the overalls, moustache, and hat, Mario is a different person. It’s sort of like seeing Tom Selleck without his mustache; he just isn’t the same. Or Nick Offerman.

If you ever wondered what Mario might look like with a fresh shave, no hat, and different clothes, check this out. I wouldn’t even recognize Mario without his normal gear.

If Mario ever needs to slip out of the country on some sort of covert CIA mission, all he needs to do is shave and ditch the hat. He is completely unrecognizable. King Koopa would walk right by his nemesis. Though he might not want to wear a Nintendo t-shirt.

NIntendo Mario & Link Costume Hoodies: Comfy Cosplay

The costumes of the Mario Bros. and Link are some of the easiest video game get ups to emulate. But if you’re short on patience or skills, you can do worse than TV Store Online’s officially licensed hoodies. Though I must say that the Mario Bros. hoodies are best suited for babies. Or adults with no abdomens.

The Mario, Luigi and Wario hoodies look exactly like the modern avatars of those characters. The problem is that Mario and company have huge heads but barely have necks, two things that you can’t usually say about humans. The result is that the hoodies have hilariously high overalls. But the cap with logo on the hood is a nice touch.

The Link hoodie on the other hand is more or less properly proportioned, which is surprising because it seems to be based on Wind Waker Link, who like Mario is also super deformed. It also has a pointed hoody and belt, sword and shield stitched on. The downside is, well, the same reason why Hugh Jackman doesn’t wear Wolverine’s classic colors in the movies. You certainly can’t say that these hoodies didn’t stick to their source material.
