This futuristic pen hovers like magic in defiance of gravity and boredom

Break free from the problems that weigh you down with this stylish pen that looks like a spaceship ready to blast off into higher levels of productivity.

We all have our favorite writing tool. For some, it’s a specific brand pen brand. For others, it’s a very specific kind of pen. Many of those with a passionate love for ink keep their prized pen proudly standing on their desk, ready to be picked up and used. Not everyone does so, however, and quite a few expensive-looking designer pens remain as decorative pieces, untouched and unused, almost like they were fragile artifacts rather than tools to help us grow. This pen is anything but just a pretty face and is built almost like a spaceship. More importantly, it actually invites us to stare at it and even have fun with it, all for the sake of actually improving our productivity.

Static, immobile pen stands are so last century. If you’re going to show off a pen, you might as well do everything to catch people’s attention. That’s what this levitating pen brings to the table, almost literally. Rather than simply leaning at a 23.5-degree angle, this pen looks as if it were on the verge of falling over. It never does, of course, thanks to the almost magical science of magnets.

Despite its otherworldly feat, almost everything about this levitating pen is begging to be touched, felt, and played with. Give the pen a twist while docked in its station and be mesmerized by its continuous kinetic motion. If you’re more of the “hands-on” type of person, you can also pull out the magnetic cap and have that spin around on the desk, using the pen like a magic wand that has granted you telekinetic powers.

Of course, the pen is more than just a visual novelty and a toy. It is a true-blooded tool for putting your thoughts on paper. Compatible with standard SCHMIDT D1 ballpoint refills, you can be assured that your pen will keep on writing forever, as long as you have a stock of refills at hand. Thanks to its aircraft-grade aluminum body, it’s also guaranteed to last just as long, maybe for a few decades at the very least.

Despite its almost cold metal body and space-worthy talents, this futuristic writing tool remains approachable and human. The soft satin-like finish makes it soft to the touch, and its twisting form is more than just for show, though it is definitely an eye-catching design. It’s actually designed for ergonomics, with the curves nestling comfortably inside your hand and won’t slide off or cut into your skin while you hold it.

Available in our shop in black and silver color choices, this levitating pen makes any writing task smoother and more enjoyable. And when your brain needs a break, you can spin the pen or the cap to get those creative juices flowing again. Whether it’s docked or in your hand, this spacecraft-like ballpoint pen is ready to launch your productivity and consciousness into new heights while having fun along the way.

Pen holder concept adds some minimalist flair to your work area

For a person that owns a lot of pens (and I do mean a lot), I’m always on the lookout for pen holders that can not just keep my pens but also make my work area prettier. If the accessory helps organize my numerous pens as well, then that’s an added bonus. This new one that we spotted seems to fit all of the categories that I’ve been looking for.

This “una scatola” or box looks like a boxful of pencils that are placed downwards. But really, it’s designed as a pencil or pen holder for those that don’t want their pens or other office accessories just put together in an ordinary cup-like or box-like holder. It seems to be designed to keep your pens, pencils, colored pens, highlighters, even scissors, cutters, and other things you want to place upright, evenly spaced apart. This product is an organized person’s dream.

Designers: Nuri Badur, Fabio Verdelli

If you look at it from afar, it seems to be an ordinary square-shaped pencil holder. The top view reveals that it’s actually like a “forest” of upside down pencils where you can place actual pencils in between them so it becomes a pen holder. There’s also a bigger space in the middle so you can use it for items that are bigger than pens, like a highlighter, a pair of scissors, or even a small stapler. The idea behind the design, aside from it looking cool, is for those that want their accessories a bit apart from each other or placed in evenly spaced compartments.

Even if the design is different from the other penholders that we see in the market, it still maintains a minimalist look for those that prefer monochromatic desk accessories. The “box” itself is just white while the “stands” inside have a gradient feel with orange, brown, and white colors. If you still want a bit of color on your desk, it will be up to the pens and accessories that you place on the holder to add some different colors and designs.

HMM Ballpoint Pen exudes confidence and stability in a fast-changing world

The world has changed radically in the past two years, but one of the things that have remained constant is the need for a reliable and comfortable writing tool exemplified by this distinctive pen.

It almost seems as if we’ve moved to a purely digital realm, with many of our documents and IDs already available in computers, phones, and the cloud. Styluses like the Apple Pencil even make short work of signing documents or sketching ideas with digital ink. Like it or not, it’s impossible to get rid of paper and, consequently, the pen that leaves its mark on it. Some people see pens as trivial, disposable tools, while others regard them as something that should last almost for eternity. The HMM Ballpoint is of the latter, and its design clearly shows it.

Designer: HMM Project

Most designer pens come in smooth, cylindrical shapes, glossy finishes, and golden accents here and there. These pens look luxurious and well-refined, delicate, and reserved to be used on special occasions only. In contrast, the HMM Ballpoint pens look raw, almost to the point of being primal. And yet, there’s an ironic beauty in seeing the unbridled power of the pen in its natural form.

The pen comes in two finishes, with RAW exhibiting that naked form best. Its surface is artificially aged through vibration polishing, giving it a well-worn look as if it has seen all the battles between your mind and the blank sheet of paper before you. GUN metal, on the other hand, looks a bit more polished thanks to military-grade hard anodizing, but it still has that aura of a powerful weapon in your fingertips.

Most pens are depicted as perfect cylinders with smooth surfaces, but closer inspection will reveal how many barrels actually have edges to them. The HMM Ballpoint embraces this wholeheartedly with a dodecagonal body that carries the designer’s trademark form. Together with the pen’s texture, this shape allows the user to hold the pen with more confidence to help banish doubts from their minds.

That sense of confidence extends to the material chosen for the pen, an aluminum alloy that speaks of longevity. Writers who often find themselves mindlessly clicking their pens won’t have to fear breaking this pen easily. The HMM Ballpoint is built the way it looks, not as a delicate and rarely used instrument but as a sturdy, stable, and powerful companion that will stick with you through thick or thin. Or at least for as long as SCHMIDT P900M refills exist.

The Logifaces puzzle comprises a series of triangles of the same size, but different heights (at each vertex), and the only rule is, “Create a form by placing the prisms next to each other to build a continuous surface”.

The Clip Art series by Present & Correct features ten different paper clips from 1860 to 1934, recreated from ancient patent records.

The Clamp Basket by Seungwan Kan attaches to the side of the desk and allows the user to collect the rubber residue that is strewn across the work surface.

Knife and ruler combo by Marion Lenne combines surgical steel with natural cork. The tactile cork provides greater grip and is faceted to prevent rolling.

The Ostrich magnetic paperclip holder by Arthur Xin takes on the familiar form of the world’s biggest bird.

The Writer by Jaquet-Droz replicates its owner’s signature by using historic cam technology and a complex series of 585 parts, assembled and finished by hand.

Iris by Odin Ardagh is designed to make drawing circles more intuitive and fun, without piercing the paper as you would with a compass.

The Sidekick by Tan Mavitan Studio opens into an ‘L’ shaped notebook that can easily sit at the corner of your keyboard, or your mousepad, or even tablet.

The Flip Scale by Kalyani Tupkary’s clever design allows it to flip over and be used multiple times, allowing you to measure much more than a foot ruler or a measuring tape is capable of!

The Fume by Hakan Gürsu of Designnobis doesn’t just lay out the markers in an interesting format, it even allows you to segregate them by hue into three zones.

Magcon by Ddiin packs a pen-stand, rounder/compass, wrench, scale, bottle opener, and drawing guide all in one.

This pencil sharpener by Di Lu serves as an extra hand to catch and collect shavings so they can be easily discarded.

Cronzy Pen Scans Any Color You Want, Then Writes In That Color

Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 7.28.09 AM

The headline pretty much sums up what this fantastic pen can do. It’s called Cronzy, and packs a special ink with a mechanism that will mix it on the fly and produce any of 16 million colors. You can pair the pen with a smartphone and select any of these colors through an app. Better yet, the Cronzy has a color scanner: just point it at any object and it’ll instantly start writing in that color! It works a lot like the eyedropper tool in most photo editing applications. The pen comes with 5 interchangeable nibs so you can write and draw in different styles, with different width lines. It’s stored in a special carrying case, which also doubles as a charger.

Imagine the possibilities for any artist out there. Provided it works as advertised, and the ink doesn’t run out too quickly or cost too much to replace, the Cronzy could be a hit. It’s being crowdfunded on Indiegogo at the moment, and they’re still far from their $200,000 goal. But given the nature of the product, we wouldn’t be surprised if they went viral at any moment and smashed through their objective. It’s still time to get in the Very Early Pricing of $139, and hurry up because it goes up to $219 after that.

Renegade 3D Pen Uses Shredded Bottles As “Fuel”

Renegade-3D-Pen-Featured-image-672x372

Some of you may remember the 3Doodler pen that allowed you to draw a real objet in thin air, in three dimensions, freehand. It extruded a melted plastic filament that instantly hardened, making it possible to draw complex structures. The Renegade Pen is just like that, but with one important twist: it prints 3D models by recycling your plastic bottles, files, and bags.

Renegade is designed to accept strips cut from PET plastic bottles, plastic bags, or even plastic files and in sizes ranging from 5-7 mm and thickness of between 0.14-0.35mm. It can also use standard filaments, such as PLA, ABS, nylon, TPE, HIPS, wood et cetera, as long as they are of 1.75mm diameter.

Bottles are easily turned into thin filaments using the ChupaCut plastic bottle shredder, filaments which are then fed to the Renegade Pen. You’re then free to set the feed speed and the extrusion temperature (between 50-320 degrees Celsius (122-608 Fahrenheit)), which will help you fine-tune the viscosity and fluid properties of the extruding plastic. It’s a cool idea, one that’s both eco-friendly and thrifty at the same time (those PLA refills aren’t cheap!). If you want your own, you’ll have to part with £60, or roughly $80USD, and wait until February 2017 for shipment.
