1. Smart Prosthetic Arm

Xander Lihovski designed this wearable design called the ‘Smart Prosthetic Arm’. It is his own interpretation of an AI-controlled prosthesis design, and effortlessly merges AI and smart technology. Lihovski adopted a rather techy or robotic look for the arm, in an attempt to normalize the use of prosthetic limbs in common spaces. A digital interface wraps around the prosthetic arm’s elbow crease that operates as the prosthetic limb’s smart hub. It has been conceptualized in a black variant and a white variant.

2. The Samsung Action Camera

Designed by Isaac Lee, the Samsung Action Camera is a nifty and compact contraption featuring a wide-angle lens, record button, control knob, digital viewfinder, and an LCD screen on the top – much like the ones you see on retro-style cameras. The side of the camera has been equipped with two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm aux for an external microphone. It’s a unique transparent camera that is a refreshing change from the mainstream GoPros and other action cameras we see today.

3. Eco

The electrolarynx is an essential device to help those who had a laryngectomy to be able to speak again. However, it can be inconvenient to use one, hence Luca Persico designed ‘Eco’ – a simplified and more efficient version of an electrolarynx. All the buttons have been reduced to one, and there are only three simple steps required to operate it. The lightweight and ergonomic design can adapt to the diversity and multiplicity of users’ bodies, therefore transforming the complex electrolarynx into an easy-to-use and intuitive device.

4. Focus

This stunning watch designed by Samuel Beaney and Ed Burgess is defined by interesting bezels! While manufacturers are trying to banish bezels, Focus embraces them wholeheartedly. Taking inspiration from traffic signs, particularly the circular ones, the smartwatch uses thick bezels to increase the visual focus of the small screen in the middle. There are no other extra markings around that screen, be it a rotating bezel or even a crown.

5. The Stingray Headphones

Designed by Junhyeok “Hugo” Oh, the Stingray Headphones have been created to adapt to the back of human heads, hence making them quite an ergonomic pair of headphones. They cover the back of our heads, preventing migraines and helping users to focus completely on the music. The headphones are designed to be portable, and they can be swiftly clipped onto or put into bags and pockets, making the headphones extremely easy to carry around with you.

6. The Air Boost

Designed by ByungJun Lee, the Air Boost is a sports mask concept with the branding of Nike. It’s designed to be an electronic mark concept that replenishes oxygen and supports you in breathing while you conduct aerobic exercises. It ensures the circulation of clean air and provides oxygen supply from oxygen capsules as and when needed. This helps to speed up and improve your post-workout recovery since it prevents oxygen deficiency and debt that can take place during physical activities.

7. Husqvarna Charging Modules

Designed by Anshuman Kumar, these solar charging modules were designed for mountain bikes, and branded under Husqvarna. The conceptual design was created to enable riders to ride to remote locations, without the fear of their EVs dying down, and being unable to find charging sources. The module is powered by solar energy and would make an excellent design if brought to life, especially for adventure seekers who love road trips to offbeat locations.

8. The Huawei Watch GT Cyber

Say hello to Huawei’s most ambitious and innovative smartwatch! The watch features a circular face and a detachable dial that pops out of the strap. This allows you to swap the outer body designs in no time. The majestic smartwatch comes with a wide range of straps, that you can switch between, giving your smartwatch the look you’re in the mood for – classy, minimalist, sports, or premium. The Huawei Watch GT Cyber allows you to log your workout with a variety of 100+ sports modes, and GPS tracking lets you keep tabs on your route.

9. Pavy’s Earbuds Design

Designed by Simon Pavy, this innovative earbuds concept is a unique audio device that can be used while traveling, playing sports, or during any activity where we have limited or no access to our smartphones. The nifty device combines AirPods and an AirPods case with a new and improved iPod Nano screen, hence creating a hybrid of the AirPods and the iPod, resulting in a gadget that has no need for a smartphone, since it does it all!

10. FLAG

Designed by Mk Jeon, FLAG is designed to be a rollable display for travelers. Most journeys end with the symbolic act of flagging, for example, when astronauts land on the moon, or mountain climbers reach the top of Mt. Everest, they strike a flag into the ground as a symbol of their victory and the end of their long journey. In a similar fashion, FLAG is designed to share your entire travel journey, and help you finish it up with a techy ‘FLAG’, that commemorates your arduous process.

YD x KeyShot Inspiration Hub Design of the Month #1 – Samsung Action Camera Concept

Bagging the first Design of the Month spot is the Samsung Action Camera concept from designer Isaac Lee. I can’t begin to describe the kind of love I have for transparent objects, not just for their design appeal, but for the kind of effort that goes into rendering them. Making a product transparent means needing to detail out interior components, and adding screws, supports, and parting lines to the insides of plastic or glass parts. It’s a lot of effort for a seemingly low pay-off, but it’s the kind of effort I absolutely don’t mind rewarding!

The Samsung Action Camera, although it looks large, is quite a small contraption no larger than a GoPro or any other action camera. It comes with one wide-angle lens, along with a few other features like a record button, control knob, digital viewfinder, and an LCD screen on the top like the one seen on retro-style cameras. On the side, you’ve got two USB-C ports, and a 3.5mm aux in for an external microphone.

If you don’t know what the YD x KeyShot Inspiration Hub is, it’s best to think of it as the ultimate destination to find the most inspirational design work, as well as to have your own work featured, so it can be seen by a global audience of thousands of designers and creatives… an ever-expanding encyclopedia of good design and great rendering, if you will.

The hub helps fulfill YD and KeyShot’s broad goal of recognizing exemplary work from a distance and helping amplify it without having to rely on an algorithm, unlike with portfolio sites and social media. It relies on YD’s two-decade-long year history of curating great ideas, concepts, and case studies and ties it to KeyShot’s powerful position as the design industry’s most powerful and preferred rendering software.

The Inspiration Hub’s jury panel will hand-pick and highlight an outstanding design each week, also awarding a ‘Design of the Week’ and ‘Design of the Year’, featuring them at the top of the hub’s page while giving winning designs a permanent badge and entering them into the Inspiration Hub’s ‘Hall of Fame’. Hall-of-Famers will also be featured on Yanko Design’s Instagram page and will win exciting prizes from KeyShot. If you think your design has a chance to get featured on the hub and win, submit your design with us here.

1. Casabo’s Casio Concept

Casio’s reputation in the watch industry is impeccable, and it has impressed us with amazing timepieces amped with mind-blowing form and functionality through the years. Casio’s design language and philosophy have been well-cemented and easily identifiable by now. However, industrial designer Alex Casabo decided to play around with that, but only just a little. Alex Casabo’s stunning translucent watch render is defined by a transparent ice-like dial and a sturdy stark-blue strap. Hints of blue run through the uber-cool watch. Casabo has managed to retain the essence of Casio’s design language, with his own fresh twist.

2. Diesel Hybrid Watch

Elia Pirazzo designed this stunning Diesel hybrid watch to perfectly capture Diesel’s design language and philosophy through the means of a powerful icon. He picked up cues from the watches Diesel created during the 80s and created a contemporary and stylish timepiece that truly reflects Diesel’s vision. The brown leather strap and the navy blue dial deftly complement one another, producing a watch that will elevate the user’s confidence and sense of self.

3. Just Another Watch

Roger Bartra designed what he likes to call ‘Just another Watch’. This quirky little watch is simple and unassuming, and its very simplicity makes it stand out so beautifully. Bartra chose a bright yellow color for the look, and a stark white dial to complement it. The ‘Just another Watch’ lets the true elements of a watch simply shine through you, without any extra or unnecessary bells and tassels. The knobs and buttons on the watch are big and chonky, giving the watch a rather playful aesthetic.

4. Cheong’s Apple Watch Ultra 2022

The Apple Watch is probably one of the most popular smartwatches globally, and it’s not much of a shocker when you consider the number of people you see walking or jogging on the street with their Apple Watch wrapped around their wrists. Apple is constantly innovating on the go, and its Apple Watch Ultra was one of the latest addition to its arsenal of techy goodies. Industrial designer Tommy Cheong designed his version of the Apple Watch Ultra 2022. The watch was crafted with precise attention to detail, which is reflected in the intricate and colorful elements on the screen. He maintained the Ultra’s quintessential strap, hence preserving the look and feel factor of the original Apple Watch Ultra.

5. Focus

This stunning watch is defined by interesting bezels!

6. The Vessel

Called the Vessel, this conceptual watch design turns the charging upside-down. The smartwatch isn’t charged via a charging pad, but it has a charging module that attaches to the smartwatch even when you’re wearing it. It features a pebble-shaped battery that magnetically attaches itself to the face of the smartwatch. It doesn’t charge the smartwatch wirelessly, as you might assume but instead uses pogo pin contacts like those from the early days of smartwatches.

8. Orb

Featuring a contoured watch face, Orb is a concept smartwatch that’s been equipped with all the important features you would expect from a watch – timekeeping, health tracking, real-life notifications, as well as video calling. It is designed for people of all age groups since it has a rather optimized size. It’s not too big for users who are young, and nor is it too small for adults. The contoured watch face can be customized with any number of digital dials, but the inherent dial comes with a monochromatic hour and minute hands.

9. The Beads of Time

Say hello to the Beads of Time! This innovative and unusual wristwatch was inspired by an abacus, and it combines an abacus, a digital watch, and a day calendar. Designed by industrial designer Eshaan Kothari, the Beads of Time is the perfect culmination of tradition, technology, and timekeeping. If you’re looking to read the time, the ‘beads’ in the upper row have a value of 5, while the lower row beads are valued at 1. To read the time, all you need to do is see the position of the beads.

10. QLOCKTWO W

This watch by Biegert and Funk requires you to read the time…quite literally! The intriguing watch features a uniform grid of 110 letters. You press the button on its side, which causes some of the letters to light up, and tell you the time! It spells out the time for you. In 2019, the watch won the iF DESIGN AWARD for its unique design. It’s available in two different sizes, making it suitable for all wrist sizes.

YD x KeyShot Inspiration Hub Design of the Week #1 – AirShock Inflatable Controller

We kick off the YD x KeyShot Inspiration Hub’s first Design of the Week with this absurdly innovative PlayStation controller that opts for an inflatable design as opposed to those hyper-ergonomic solid forms. Blow air into the controller and it puffs up into a lightweight handheld device that conforms to the shape of your hand the way an inflatable neck pillow adjusts to your body’s contours. Would such a device even be feasible? We’d have to try it out to really have actual answers… but there’s no denying one thing. That this concept from Running Guy Studio is refreshingly different and catches the eye with its unique style and brilliant rendering.
