Chainsaw Artist Sculpts an Actual Wood Groot

You know, I never realy gave much thought to chainsaw art until I saw Griffon Ramsey doing her thing in the video below. It’s fascinating. Watch as Ramsey works her magic and creates a sculpture of Groot using several chainsaws and some Eastern Red Cedar wood.

Ramsey has some amazing chainsaw skills. You can watch Groot come together before your eyes, since she filmed the work in progress. The finished Groot really looks great – like he could come to life at any moment.

I might have to try my hand at chainsaw art just to make a Groot that I can display for myself. Of course, I would probably just lose my hand, so maybe not.

V8 Car Engine-Powered Chainsaw

Chainsaw powered by V8 car engine.Yes, you are seeing this correctly. This is a chainsaw powered by a 4.2 liter V8 car engine. The chainsaw runs at a 1:1 ration directly from the engine’s rotations and tears through a 21 inch diameter hardwood peppermint gum tree in about 2.4 seconds.

The chainsaw was built as a promotional tool by Whitlands Engineering in Australia (hence the gum tree), so they really have no plans to manufacture them for consumers, but nevertheless it is impressive to see.

Check out the video below:

A Chainsaw Powered by a V8 Engine

Leave it to Australians to create the ultimate manly chainsaw. Whitlands Engineering is an Australian company that makes wood splitters, firewood processors, and other stuff. Apparently, just for kicks, they built a chainsaw powered by a 4.2-liter V8 car engine from a 1985 Holden WB Ute.

Forget it, you can’t buy one and then modify it to zip down the street to chop up other vehicles. The company is not mass-producing this design. It’s just for marketing. That makes me sad, because I could make an awesome Mad Max vehicle out of this thing.

Traffic jams would be a thing of the past since you could just cut your way through them.

This Tree-Pruning Robot Wields a Chainsaw

Robots wielding dangerous weapons never seems like a good idea, but that doesn’t stop engineers from continuing to create them. Case in point, this ”Pruning Robot With a Power-Saving Chainsaw Drive.”

chainsaw robotmagnify

It was developed by roboticists Yasuhiko Ishigure, Katsuyuki Hirai, and Haruhisa Kawasaki, and is capable of not only climbing up trees, but dismembering them without human intervention. The robot can spiral its way up tree trunks ranging from 2.3 to 9.8 inches in diameter, and easily lops of limbs up to about two inches in diameter.

It doesn’t matter how much smooth jazz you play as it tears up the tree, slicing off branches. It’s still a deadly machine. While the machine could definitely reduce the need for human labor, the fact that it can climb and slice limbs seems like a horror movie waiting to happen. Imagine what this thing could do if it latched onto your leg. Eesh.

Chainsaw Carved Dinosaur: Prehistoric Pine

You don’t need the folks from Jurassic Park to bring dinosaurs back to life. You just need Scott Dow of the Animalistic Chainsaw Carving Studio in Corry, Pennsylvania. He brought this one to life. And not with a petri dish and a beaker either. With a good old-fashioned chainsaw.

Look how awesome it is and it’s not even finished yet. Scott has some mad skills with that chainsaw. Now it just needs armor. And laser guns! And a bionic cyber-eye. And laser pistols holstered at it’s side. At least that’s how I would finish it.

What do you think Scott? Make my idea of a dino-warrior a reality? I’ll pick it up next week.

Cut that door right open, lumber jack style. Not really, but with the Chainsaw Key Cover you can pretend to cut it down without having to build a new door every single time Ron Swanson style. Keep your love of power tools on hand with this light-up, sound producing key cover. It looks and sounds like a (very small) chainsaw. Timber ho!!!!

Robot with a Chainsaw: It’s the End of the World as We Know It.

What genius gave this robot a chainsaw? This industrial robot has been programmed to carve logs into stools. With a chainsaw. Is this really a good idea? Uh, probably not. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will now become the Robot Chainsaw Massacre. I look forward to it’s endless sequels.

These stools from Germany’s Echtwald get sold to the people who came to watch the robot in action. So you watch this robot cut your stool and then you buy the stool, thanking god that this thing can not follow you home.

It’s almost like blackmail. Here, watch this robot carve up a stool. That could be you getting carved up if we let this thing loose. How about you buy one of these stools now? Yeah, I thought you might need a place to park your butt.
