This modular furniture creatively reduces waste and assembles like a giant LEGO project

We’ve said this before and we’ll say it again, flexible lifestyle is the future and it is amazing to see how product designs are pivoting to be more modular to suit that change! Furniture designs are seemingly leading this game. The Un-Lim collection was specifically created so you can switch up the function and form of your furniture to fit your needs instead of going out to buy a new piece every time something changes. Un-Lim stands for unlimited and that truly shines through this set.

“Unlimited imagination and unimaginable needs of people could be contradictory to the limitations of our planet and our capacities as human beings. The consumption patterns we have adapted have led to global warming, polluted air, soil, and water while putting pressure on people, both in working conditions and a psychological obsession to gain more without answering the real needs,” says designer Ariyan Davoodian on what inspired him to create modular furniture for every space. The aim was to reduce the unnecessary (and constant) buying by using creativity and sustainable development to meet our furniture needs that also work for our environment.

Un-Lim is an ageless collection that can be molded and changed over time – think of it as redesigning your own furniture using the same pieces to create a whole new form and function! It comes with 8 different parts that you can combine to match your space and needs. Turn it from a bed to a table to a chair seamlessly. The separate modules come with a notebook that tells the story of its production timeline from the furniture’s point of view! It also includes a piece of wood from the tree that was used and a shoutout to all wood craftsmen who worked on your set.

Think of it as a running LEGO project that you can actually sit on without getting poked. The designer wanted consumers to have a long-lasting relationship with the pieces that are a part of their home and use them to express their creativity while saving natural resources and reducing waste. It teaches you to find happiness with what you have instead of finding it in a new product every other year.

A Wood Table You Can Roll Up!

at_06

Inspired by his own frustration with having to run up and down the stairs to get an extra table when he had guests over, designer Marcus Voraa was determined to create a table that was flexible enough to accommodate groups of different size… and flexible it is! Called “@” for the shape it creates, this interactive furniture piece features a crank and loosely connected slats that can be rolled up or rolled out to save space or make room for more people!

Simply extend the nesting legs on one side and “unwind” the top surface to extend the length of the table. When you’re finished using it, just wind it up with the steel crank and voila! All you have to worry about it where you’re going to store chairs. In beautiful beech wood with a beeswax finish, it’s a handsome statement piece that users will grow to love through unique interaction.

Convertible Celerina Table

celerina_cover

With as many opportunities to work from home now a days, there are so many pros, and very few cons that come along with that. However, the biggest con is space. It’s hard to find a home or apartment that offers enough room to live and work.

The Celerina Table, designed by Damien Regamey for Reinhard AG Sachseln, was designed just for that. At first glance, you see a beautifully designed, solid oak dining table with beautiful details that is mounted on either still or wood tilted legs – perfect for entertaining or a nice meal at home. What’s hidden underneath is the gem of the table.

Once you release the leather security strap, the hydraulic system opens the top of the table, transforming it into a beautiful, modern office desk with storage, optional magnetic boards and a cable management system. A perfect solution to keep your workspace hidden and out of the way, once you finish work for the day.

Celerina Table also won an A’Design Award for 2016. What a perfect addition to any modern home.

Family Dinners of another kind

reflection_table_1

Most of us don’t allow pets at the table, but they’re family too, right? The Reflection table is a table that allows pet owners to dine along with their furry friends in a much more personal way. The table has sensors that detect when you’re having a meal. This in turn triggers the table to serve your pet its meal too. A camera captures your pet eating, and a circular display at your end of the table makes it look like you two are eating together at the table…because that’s the way it should be!

Tubular Table with a Twist

Cole Holyoake’s Mykel Table achieves its unique, sculptural character through an unorthodox arrangement of its three tubular legs. Each is bent by hand to provide cantilevered support, undertaking the duty of its right hand neighbor. Although it defies the laws of stability, it maintains a contemporary aesthetic that’s sure to be a conversation starter. Vid after the jump!

Razor Thin Table

Despite its ultra-ultra-thin form, the Blade table is stronger than it looks. Designed by Alexander Purcell Rodrigues, the dining table takes advantage of Mykon’s innovative aluminum honeycomb technology. With its high strength-to-weight ratio of honeycomb material and new fabrication techniques, an impossibly thin and elegant table is reduced to its purest form without sacrificing safety or functionality.

Growing Glass Table

Alain Gilles’ TRACKS table earns its namesake from the functional framework that makes up its base. While many extendable tables hide their technical systems, TRACKS highlights it with vibrant colors and material contrasts of wood and metal, all of which are visible through a glass top. Long or short, it’s both functionally and aesthetically versatile. Watch it grow —>
