It’s that wonderful time of the year once more. If you haven’t found the perfect topper for the tree yet, then here’s something that might give you some ideas: the custom Groot tree topper made with love by DeviantArt user witchcraftywolfen. Of course, you’ll need some skills to make something like this, what with Groot’s simple-yet-complicated features.

To make the tree topper, you’ll need a CD spool cover, foam, plastic eyes, Crayola Model Magic, pipe cleaners, and acrylic paint. Hit the break for more shots of the Groot tree topper.

Groot Tree Topper: Guardians of the Christmas Tree

Since Groot is a tree-like creature, it only makes sense to put him on top of another tree. He is the perfect Christmas tree topper. DeviantArt user witchcraftywolfen made this awesome Groot tree topper from some basic items. It really makes the entire tree look menacing.

Groot was made using a CD spool cover, foam, plastic eyes, Crayola Model Magic, pipe cleaners, and acrylic paint. It really looks amazing when you consider those supplies. And if you are going to have Groot, you have to have Rocket, so the artist also made a Rocket Raccoon plush to keep him company.

It looks so good. Too bad we can’t buy one. Maybe next year it will be ready for our trees. Or maybe if we water our Baby Groots…

Groot Backyard Swing: Guardians of the Playground

Director James Gunn really loves to share cool Guardians of the Galaxy stuff on social media. I don’t think I have ever seen a director who enjoys sharing fan’s expressions of his work more. Recently he shared this picture of a life-sized Groot swing on his Tumblr.

Some fans made this for their child, to be featured on an upcoming reality show called Super Fans, Super Builds. This is probably the coolest Groot creation I have seen yet. That is one lucky kid. He’s probably the star of his neighborhood now, with all of the kids asking to come over.

What is it that makes a hyperviolent, anthropomorphized tree that says nothing more than “I am Groot” so charming? My money is on those big doe eyes. It’s the weird combination of nine-foot tall killing machine and cuddly kitten meme that pushes a lot of the good buttons in our brains in an unusual combination. Regardless, the love of Groot is an international phenomenon and that means that Vin Diesel needed to be able to tell audiences all around the world that he is Groot, in their languages.

That’s why Marvel has released this supercut of “I am Groot” translated into fifteen different languages. Now you know that Groot speaks English, Spanish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Japanese, Polish, Italian, Portuguese, Kazakh, French, Russian, Turkish, Hindi, German, Czech, and Mandarin. Of course, Marvel is also pawing out our credit cards with this, and using it to remind us that that Guardians of the Galaxy is dropping on various digital channels, on DVD, and on Blu-Ray on December 9th. The “I am Groot” in many languages is one of the featurettes that comes with the film.

Finally!: Groot Toy Dancing to Stores This December

You’ve been waiting for it, and it’s finally here. Well, almost here. Guardians of the Galaxy enthralled audiences and broke box office records, and the ending sequence made people fall in love with dancing baby Groot. Figurines, models, and toys featuring Groot have been released, but none of them ever danced the way Groot did.

That’s going to change with the release of the new dancing Groot toy in a few months, which was a product of Marvel’s collaboration with KIDdesigns. The best part? He’ll be grooving to the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” It’ll be available for $14.99 by December, just in time for Christmas. Check out a clip of dancing Groot after the break.

Chainsaw Artist Sculpts an Actual Wood Groot

You know, I never realy gave much thought to chainsaw art until I saw Griffon Ramsey doing her thing in the video below. It’s fascinating. Watch as Ramsey works her magic and creates a sculpture of Groot using several chainsaws and some Eastern Red Cedar wood.

Ramsey has some amazing chainsaw skills. You can watch Groot come together before your eyes, since she filmed the work in progress. The finished Groot really looks great – like he could come to life at any moment.

I might have to try my hand at chainsaw art just to make a Groot that I can display for myself. Of course, I would probably just lose my hand, so maybe not.

Awesome Baby Groot Model Kit IS GROOT.

Guardians of the Galaxy was an awesome movie – I really liked everything about the movie. Like most people, I was rather sad to see (Spoiler Alert) Groot get crushed near the end of the film, but the ending credit scene with baby Groot growing back in a pot proved he wasn’t dead.

We have seen more than a few baby Groot action figures already, like the bobblehead one from Funko. A new model has surfaced from Dragon models that is the most screen accurate Baby Groot toy we have seen yet. It looks just like the one movie and stands 7-inches tall. The action figure was made using 3D character scans. The model will ship in November and can be pre-ordered for $79.99(USD).

The only downside to this figure is that this Groot doesn’t dance. The market is really screaming for a movie accurate dancing Groot. Whoever makes that will be very rich.

Guardians of the Galaxy was an awesome movie and a huge summer hit. The movie and its characters really resonated with cosplayers – especially when it comes to Groot. Now you can make an awesome Groot costume for about what it costs a family of four to go see a movie.
