Japan Has a Coronavirus Quarantine Mascot, and He’s as Adorable as You’d Think

Despite some early worries, Japan has so far managed to keep the COVID-19 outbreak relatively well contained in their country. It certainly could spike, but I’m hopeful that their efforts to reduce social interaction, and to quarantine people with the virus have paid off. To help reinforce their message, the country now has a quarantine mascot, and his name is Quaran.

FORTH, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare created the mascot to help remind people that they need to follow quarantine rules, and to promote awareness of their Quarantine Information Office. The adorable yellow egg with wings and a cat tail wears protective goggles and carries a triangular shield as symbols of his protective work. Naturally, he wears a “Q” on his head as a reminder of his name.

The mascot was actually created before the novel coronavirus outbreak took the world by storm, but now Quaran is working overtime to get the message out to people as a reminder to avoid crowds and practice social distancing whenever possible.

USB-powered Bears Keep Your Hands Warm While Typing

Do your hands get cold while you type away at your computer keyboard? Mine do here in my drafty office with the snow falling outside my window. And while I could just type with gloves on, I think some USB-powered hand warmers might be better a better idea. These should do the trick.

They’re available for pre-order now for $35 a pair over at Urban Outfitters, and are expected to start shipping on 2/19/2020, so we’ll should still be in the depths of winter here in much of the Northern Hemisphere at that point.

Just when you thought the pink parade of Hello Kitty branded products had reached it’s end, along comes the Hello Kitty Cyclone Vacuum Cleaner. Now as much as we loathe Hello Kitty here, this one might actually convince kids to clean up after themselves a bit. It makes vacuuming fun…I guess.

The vacuum is on the smaller side, measuring 18.5 x 22.8 x 6.7″. It’s also battery powered, so while there’s no wires to get tangled up in, don’t expect to be sucking up 2 pound steel marbles out of your shag carpeting (and what exactly are you doing with steel balls on your shag carpeting anyway?) Cleaning is apparently cute again. Available at the end of next month for $60 with shipping from Japan costing nearly that same amount.

We love all things Pocky here at Craziest Gadgets. And we loves games. We don’t like getting shocked. We also love big butts and we cannot lie. With the Giant Pocky Shock Shocking Pocky Game: Atamaga Shock game you get to play with Pocky. Not the real ones, save those for a delicious sweet snack.
