The Workplace Buddy Drone!

mood_motivation_drone_1

Most drones have state of the art cameras mounted on them, with the ability to film 2K or FullHD at the very least. MooD’s a little different in that aspect. It has an infrared sensor that captures thermal imaging data. Now why would a drone capture anything in infrared?

The MooD is a drone with a slightly different purpose. It’s meant for office environments. For places where team spirit and group dynamics are essential for a company’s survival, the MooD captures a human’s thermal map, knowing how they feel. So if there’s an employee who’s battling personal problems, depression, anger, or stress, the MooD knows, and helps alleviate the situation by letting the co-workers know that there’s a problem. The drone therefore initiates a dialogue and helps the problem get solved, or go away, bringing normalcy back to the corporate environment!

How great would this be for the Big Brother house, eh! 😉

In The Mood For A New Laptop?

Love this refreshing design for a laptop by Antoine Beynel. It’s got that sexy aluminum finish and neat keys on the keyboard. What makes it stand apart is the customizable integrated sleeve that becomes a part of the computer. This ways you can protect your laptop and carry it with ease. Another striking feature is the way the ports on the side can be hidden and protected while traveling. Very cool!

Stressed Out? Desktop Fireworks is an Instant Mid-Day Pick-Me-Up

Desktop Fireworks

Stress can make people do crazy things. It can make someone feel trapped and so wrapped up in trying to resolve the issue at hand that it makes them forget about the other things that matter. Work or school, after all, isn’t everything. So when you start feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, defeated, and helpless, then here’s what you should do: hit the Desktop Fireworks button and watch your desk come to life. You should call a friend afterward to talk things through, though, when the excitement has died down.

The Desktop Fireworks is the brainchild of Tomomi Sayuda. It’s actually a set of fun lights, noisemakers, and confetti crammed into random stationary and supplies you’d commonly find on a table.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary or unusual–until the button is pressed, that is. You can appreciate the entirety of the concept by checking out the video above.

Hey Facebook Friend, I’m Busy!

The AVA is a Smartphone cover with unique communicative capabilities. It uses the built-in accelerometer or gyroscope of the Smartphone, to intuitively change your social network status to ‘absent’, ‘available’, ‘busy’, or ‘away’. For example, if you are logged into Facebook, and want to switch your status from ‘available’ to ‘invisible’, then simply nudge the shell to a side-face. This not only changes the status but also changes the mode from ‘ring’ to ‘silent’. The only other corresponding mode is ‘vibrate’.

  • AVA transforms your phone in your avatar by functioning as a bridge between the physical and virtual worlds.
  • Users can change their virtual status by physically interacting with their Smartphone.
  • By leaning the phone up, down or to one side or the other, the user can generate a status: ‘absent’, ‘available’, ‘busy’, or ‘away’.
  • This synchronizes with different social networks. The phone will correspondingly be set to the appropriate mode – such as ‘vibrate’, ‘ring’, or ‘silent’.

AVA is a 2013 red dot award: design concept winner!

Mico Headphones Picks Your Brain and Plays Music Based on Your Mood

Sometimes, songs can speak to you in ways that no mere words ever could. Whether you’re happy, sad, melancholic, in love, or broken-hearted, chances are you’ll find a someone who’s already singing a song about it.

Of course, you’d have to create different playlists and fill them with songs that will satisfy each of your moods. Or you can just put the Mico headphones over your head and let it do your work for you.

mico brainwave headphones

Mico is a pair of “mind-reading” (aka biofeedback) headphones that is controlled by your brain waves. It was shown off at South By Southwest, where people got a chance to put it over their heads and have it play songs based on their mood – without them having to choose the song themselves. The headphones work with a custom music app that searches through its library of 100 tracks to play a song that’ll match your current state of mind.

According to its creator, Neurowear:

Mico frees the user from having to select songs and artists and allows users to encounter new music just by wearing the device. The device detects brainwaves through the sensor on your forehead. Our app then automatically plays music that fits your mood.

No release dates have been specified yet, although Neurowear says that Mico is coming “in the neat future.”

The Happiness Machine Prints Out Little Doses of Joy from the Internet

There are a lot of things to be sad about these days. Inflation. War. Poverty. A beaten-down spirit is no good in these trying times. Brendan Dawes knows this, which is probably why he came up with this awesome project called ‘The Happiness Machine.”

Happiness MachineIt’s basically an Internet-connected printer that scans the world wide web for snippets of positivity from We Feel Fine. It’s been programmed to only print stuff that contain the word ‘happy’, hence, its name.

However, it can also be programmed to print other stuff like train schedules or the daily news. Pretty nifty, right?

Brendan showed off an updated version of The Happiness Machine at the London Design Festival 2012. Instead of just printing happy stuff, people could also choose to print sad feelings by selecting their preferences on the printer’s capacitive touch buttons.

Lumo Reminds Us of Campfires

The delightful Lumo is based on the analogy of a traditional campfire. Tinly interactive pebbles flicker with light, mimicking the burning embers of logs. They gently fade out if you don’t play with them. Simon explains, “In the same way a fire requires fuel to sustain its illumination, the pebbles require collective nurturing from the group of users.”

Lumo comes with a paper-crete induction-charging base to charge and house the pebbles.
