The best note-taking apps for students

Every student needs a good note-taking system. The human brain, after all, can only store and retain so much information. There's nothing wrong with relying solely on pen and paper (and if that's your preference, go for it!). But if you're reading En...

One sensor, many senses!

Know when people or pets are coming, going, getting into things they shouldn’t, or even when your mail is being delivered! You think the likes of Nest would be able to deal with all this right? This product helps facilitate with that. OK well, what about if your window gets opened and it’s out of sight? What about finding out the temperature in other rooms apart from the one with a thermostat in it? Even more important, what about a leak happening in your house while you’re out? Notion sensors can help with ALL of these problems.

Never again worry if you left the garage open or if your kitchen sink is leaking. Notion can alert you to all of the above, so you don’t have to worry. Using AAA batteries, the Notion has a lifespan of up to two years before needing a replacement. With an accompanying app and even integration with your Nest thermostat, Notion allows the user to stay in control and up-to-date with everything going on at home. What makes this home security device a real breeze to use is the easy to install idea of Notion – a simply peel and stick process, just plug in the bridge, connect to WiFi, and place sensors throughout your home, then that’s it. You’ll wonder why you never had Notion to begin with.

Notion Tells You What’s Going on at Home from Afar

If you are away from home a lot and want to keep an eye on your house, you might get a security alarm installed. The problem with those alarms is all they do is alarm when a window breaks or a door opens, they are far from smart. A new product has hit Kickstarter called Notion that makes homes intelligent.

notion 620magnify

This isn’t a system that turns on lights and such, it simply alerts you to conditions using seven different sensors inside each stick-on Notion puck. Each device has an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, temperature sensor, piezoelectric transducer, proximity sensor, and water leak probes. Data collected by the pucks is sent to a Notion base station, which connects to your Wi-Fi network.

What’s that mean for you? You can tell when a door opens using the accelerometer and proximity sensors. That will let you know a child comes home. The temperature sensor will help you keep an eye on energy use from afar. The water leak probes can alert you if a leak develops. If you like to grill out, the piezoelectric transducer will measure how much propane you have left in the tank.

Notion was seeking $50,000 to fund its project, and has already raised more than six times that amount. A pledge of $129(USD) or more will get you the hub and a single sensor. Packages are available with 3, 5 or 10 sensors as well.
