All the more reason to cycle!

Print

Having recently completed its Kickstarter campaign as a runaway success, the Boncho is every biker’s dream. You see, Only Mary Poppins can cycle with an umbrella in her hand, and raincoats clearly weren’t designed for bikers who needed an instant way to block out the precipitation. Enter Boncho, a smart and highly effective water-resistant poncho you can wear while riding a two wheeler. It folds open in a jiffy so you’re not wet by the time you have it assembled, and it packs just as easily into a compact little circular avatar. Now it may turn a few heads when you’re sporting a cycling-poncho, but hey, at least you’re not completely drenched, eh? Win!

Sudden Downpour? No Worries with the Raincoat-Ejecting Funnell Backpack

Not everyone carries an umbrella or raincoat on them at all times, especially if the forecast is clear and the day started out bright and sunny. However, what most people carry with them is a backpack or bag of some sort, and that’s where the Funnell Backpack comes in.

At first glance, it looks like a typical backpack. In many ways, it is, with ample space in its main compartment to carry all your stuff. What sets it apart is its built-in raincoat, which is released like a parachute when you pull the two cable strings on the shoulder straps. The waterproof jacket is big enough to cover both you and your backpack, so you don’t have to worry about getting your stuff wet.

When you’re home or have reached your destination, just shake the water from the jacket and store it in a separate pocket on the bag, which has been designed with small holes on it to drain any excess water.

The Funnell Backpack is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $198(USD) will get you one of your very own.

Pac-Man Poncho Perfect for When It’s Raining Power Pellets

Retro game fans looking to make a fashion statement on a rainy day, look no further. This is the rain poncho to end all rain ponchos. The next time it rains where you live, skip the umbrella, and go with the Pac-Man poncho instead.

Actually, it’s not really a Pac-Man poncho, it’s a Blinky ghost poncho, and it’s actually just called the “retro arcade poncho,” presumably to avoid any nastiness from Namco’s crack legal team. Regardless of its name, the poncho will look great on any retro game guy or gal, and keep the rainwater off your head and shoulders as it pours down (though it won’t keep you from turning blue and being eaten by a giant yellow dot-gobbling creature.)

You can grab the Pac-Man Blinky Retro Arcade Poncho over at I Want One of Those for £5.99 ($~10 USD.)

Telescopic Raincoat Concept Turns from Raincoat to Bag in Seconds

There are shopping bags that double as helmets (in the form of the Grappa) and now we’ve got raincoats that turn into bags after use, in the form of the Telescopic Raincoat. You can’t use them in their bag form, though, unless you want to get your stuffff wet.

Telescopic Raincoat1The Telescopic Raincoat features a strategically located drawstring that folds the entire raincoat in so you can stuff it in itself and turn it into a bag.

Imagine walking in from the rain, taking the coat off, and just pulling it into one neat, little bag in one swift motion. It’s pretty convenient and makes the entire process less messier.

The Telescopic Raincoat is so cool, that it was even one of the 2011 red dot design concept winners.

The Raincoat Bag!

Love the idea of this Telescopic Raincoat, so much so that if it ever sees the light of day, I’m buying a pack of six for my family! A strategically located drawstring near the hood folds the entire raincoat inside out to a dry bag, making it easy to carry indoors. Unfurling the coat simply requires you to shake it out. Simple and awesome!

Telescopic Raincoat is a 2011 red dot design concept winner.
