In 2011, a Kickstarter project raised more than $67,000 to build a Robocop statue for Detroit. Now the statue is finally ready to be cast in bronze and you have a chance to see what a pre-bronze Robocop statue looks like. It looks pretty sweet!
The design was sculpted by artist Frank Barton. The model as it is now, was done by Across The Board Creations by 3D scanning a smaller version of the design and digitally scaling it up to ten feet-tall. This pre-bronze assembly was put together from foam, wax, and clay and will be the model for the bronze cast.
Gotham has Batman. Metropolis has Superman. Detroit will now have it’s Robocop statue. Your move, punk!

If you're a fan of RoboCop -- and if you were a child of the '80s, why wouldn't you be? -- then today might be your lucky day. A ten-foot-tall prop of the executive-gunning ED-209 is now available for purchase on eBay for the low, low price of $25,000. Okay, so that's not exactly cheap for what isn't even a real working bot, likely made as either a stand-in or a marketing piece. It also apparently needs a couple of wooden planks to stand on its own and was built for the infinitely less cool RoboCop 2. Still, did we mention this thing is ten feet tall? And its leg extensions contain metal bars and pneumatic cylinders? And there are real electrical connections below the legs there? Sure, it might not actually power up, but it's certainly more intimidating than the robotic officers we have now. So go ahead and bid on it if you have the cash; just keep it away from stairs.

Would you like to own this massive ED-209 replica? Your move punk. Some guy is selling it on eBay for $25,000(USD). Hopefully you don’t live in Detroit or your purchase will be killed by Robocop.
According to the seller, this ED-209 model was made for Robocop 2 and may have been used as a stand-in for the robot during production or created as a marketing piece to promote the movie. This beast stands at over 10-feet-tall on two hind legs built with pneumatic cylinders.
As of this writing it is still available. Go ahead and make an offer, but don’t be that guy who says, “I’d buy that for a dollar.” You need $24,999 more than that. And ED-209 doesn’t do well on stairs. He’s probably best in a one story home.

Remember the 1990′s? It was a crazy time to be a geek. Especially a comic book geek. All of my comics from that period are worthless because of the collecting frenzy of the time, but man did they have some good storylines. Of course the best stuff can also be found in the toy advertisements between the pages. That’s how this story began.
It was the 90′s. Brad McGinty was a 12 year old kid reading through his issue of Heroes Illustrated. Remember those? He came across a tiny picture in one of the columns that a reader had sent in. It was an ad for a bootleg Robocop action figure named Robert Cop. Brad thought that this was pretty awesome and he dreamed about it for years.
And now he has realized his dream and has created this amazingly geeky Robert Cop t-shirt. As Brad puts it, this is a bootleg based on a bootleg. And it really is awesome. Looking back at the movies in the 80s, there are several that standout for me as some of my favorites growing up. One of my favorites was RoboCop. This movie was sort of cheesy even back then and had tons of violence – my kind of flick. I’m still surprised every time I catch it on cable that my parents let me watch it.
Now, RoboCop is being remade with a writer named Josh Zetumer writing the script, along with director José Padilha. The film already has some big name actors attached, including Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, and Samuel L. Jackson. I wonder if Jackson will get to drop the MF bomb. I sure hope so. Apparently, RoboCop himself is being played by actor Joel Kinnaman.
The latest addition to the cast for the remake is said to be Hugh Laurie. Of course, he’s most known for House, the pill popping, angry physician on the Fox medical drama – and before that, UK hits Jeeves and Wooster and Blackadder. Laurie is rumored to be playing the evil CEO of Omni Corp., the company that created RoboCop and tried to use the cyborg to his own ends. I’ll have to add this to the list of 1980s flick remakes that I really want to see. What I really want to know is when will they remake Top Gun?

Panasonic is now testing its hair-washing robot at a salon in Nishinomiya, Japan. Designed to care for the elderly or the physically less-able, it sprays water, shampoo and conditioner over your bonce while 24 robotic fingers knead at your scalp. The company claims that it offers a more satisfying and relaxing experience than a wash from a human, unless you remember what happened when Mr. Kinney tested ED 209. With Robocop currently in rotation on both Netflix and HBO Go, you're probably wondering, "where else can I get my daily dose of media and cultural criticism delivered by a trigger happy law enforcement cyborg?" Well, YouTube and Google Play apparently. MGM has struck a deal with the folks in Mountain View to bring 600 of its titles to the streaming services, including the aforementioned dystopian-Detroit sci-fi classic. Of course, plenty of other top shelf titles will also be available to rent and purchase in the coming weeks -- including Terminator, Rocky and Rain Man. Unfortunately for those not in the northern portion of the western hemisphere the deal is only applicable to the US and Canada. This also means that, regardless of whatever struggles Google has had in the content distribution market, it now has four of the five major studios on board. Though, we wouldn't hold your breath for Fox.
