Jackbox releases its latest party game pack on October 18th

You may not be all that familiar with Jackbox Games, but it has quite the following: party games like Quiplash have helped it stand out in a sea of indie studios. And it's about to make it a little bit easier to get acquainted. The developer has reve...

Doctor Who Trivial Pursuit: Winning Proves You’re Smarter on the Inside

The Doctor Who merchandising machine has really kicked into high gear of late. It seems like every time we turn around there is something new carrying the Doctor Who brand. This time out, there is a new trivia game for fans of the series to compete against each other with.

who triviamagnify

The game is the Doctor Who Trivial Pursuit Travel Edition. It’s like traditional Trivial Pursuit, but all the questions are Doctor Who themed, naturally.

I think my friends might like this game. I usually dominate at normal Trivial Pursuit, leaving my opponents feeling dumb and defeated (with good reason). They won’t play the game with me anymore. Since I have never watched a single episode of Doctor Who all the way through, they might have a chance.

The cards have 600 questions and include categories like Time Lords, Companions, Episodes & Stories, Monsters, Cast, Crew, & Beyond, and Years and Dates. The game is available for $19.99(USD) from ThinkGeek. The game comes with a Dalek die,  numerous question cards, and a blue wedge container to hold it all. What, no TARDIS?

NBC plans ‘The Million Second Quiz,’ a twelve-day, 24 / 7 game show

NBC plans twelve day, 24 7 'The Million Second Quiz' game show for the fall

Second screen experiences connected to TV shows haven't exactly set the world on fire, but NBC will give it another try with a new game show this fall. The Million Second Quiz is being promoted as a non-stop, twelve day trivia game with an "unprecedented level of interactivity" for viewers. In a move that harkens back to our memories of 1 vs 100 on Xbox Live a few years ago, viewers at home can play along and possibly win a spot on the show. While the competition will go on around the clock, the show airs during prime time. It will broadcast live from an "hourglass-shaped structure" located in Manhattan where the four reigning champs will reside as long as they can stay on top throughout the two week competition. Once the million seconds are up, the four champions will face off for a cash prize of up to $10 million. We'll need more details before we can decide if this is more Ultimate Ninja Warrior or Oh Sit! / Splash / Bet On Your Baby (these are all real game shows, we promise), but it's one to keep an eye out for when the all new shows debut.

Shazam now rides shotgun with any TV show in the US, gets cozier with Facebook

Shazam now rides shotgun with any TV show in the US, gets cozier with Facebook on the couch

Shazam doesn't want to let GetGlue control all our couch potato time -- it just rolled out an upgrade to its TV component that lets the mobile app provide social sharing, soundtrack and trivia details for nearly any TV show in the US, not just those deemed worthy of special attention. The app mirrors the program it's looking at -- we'll see stats instead of IMDb if we're watching hockey, for example. Whether or not attention is locked on the bigger screen in the living room, Shazam's little screen is making Facebook more a centerpiece of the experience. Media mavens can comment on friends' tagging habits and post their own tags to their Facebook timelines for all to see. The wider universe of TV shows should be available today, although we'll have to wait for an update in the "coming weeks" to broadcast our tastes in media with the rest of the world.

Google Plays Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, Solves Everything. Showoff.

Think you’re good at Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? Google dares you to challenge its search engine. All you have to do is type an actor’s name and then “bacon number” (without the quotes) and the all-knowing box spits out the answer.

I even tried non-American actors and it still wasn’t fazed. Attempting to introduce a loop won’t make it hang either:

As if YouTube wasn’t enough of a time sink already. Thanks Google.
