Tactical Necktie is What Jack Bauer Would Wear to a Wedding

ThinkGeek is showing off an interesting new product called the Laser-guided Tactical Necktie. It’s aimed at the man who has to wear a tie in the corporate warzone. The necktie goes around your neck like a normal tie, but has special features to help you get ahead in the office – and to torment kitties.

Up top, the tie has a D-loop where you can attach essentials like a grenade or maybe a can of squeeze cheese. Under that is a removable pouch with a buckle where you can keep matches for starting the fire you use to burn the place down next time your check is late.

Underneath that pouch is a molle system, which lets you hang more manly stuff, like bacon-wrapped bacon. The coolest part is the laser pointer in a removable pouch on the bottom. With that pointer, you can torment random kitties with the red dot of death or use the laser to burn out the retinas of your enemy in the cubicle next door.

Now to crush your dreams, this is one of those famous ThinkGeek April Fools’ Day pranks. To give you a bit of hope back, ThinkGeek has a history of making their prank products real – so you never know.

Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Flying Disc Defies Laws of Physics

Forget Frisbee. That is so last century. What you need in a flying disc is a starship. Like the U.S.S. Enterprise. That’s totally doable right? Hell yes. ThinkGeek has this Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Flying Disc that is totally aerodynamic despite the Enterprise body and those nacelles being attached to the saucer section.

Seemingly defying physics, you just throw the saucer section and the rest of the ship follows. Then your friend catches it. Sadly, it is not warp capable.

Ok fine. April Fools! But you know, it wouldn’t take much to make this a reality. I hope you ThinkGeek guys are working on this one for real. Around the clock please. I would like a flying Klingon Bird of Prey that I can throw and simulate battles with.

Sony Tries to Prank Us with Edible Fuel Cells, We Aren’t Buying

Today is April 1st, and that means there will be lots of pranks floating around online today. This is one of the more irritating days to be a gadget writer, some of the pranks are obvious, but at times they can be subtle and you end up writing about something that is fake that you think is real. It’s safe to say I saw this prank coming from a mile away.

Sony has unveiled what it says are the “latest in fuel cell technology.” I opened the press release expecting something to power gadgets, what I found was a picture of a protein energy bar, and other food items they say can power your electronics. The “product line” also includes Power Food Cake mix, Crunchy Loop Cereal.

Sony says that its Voltaic Enzyme is the conduit for transferring chemical energy or organic matter into gadgets as electricity. It all sounds rather like the Mr. Fusion that Doc Brown had on his car in Back to the Future.

Have you seen any good pranks online today?

Darth Vader Could Be the Next President of Ukraine

When voters go to the polls in Ukraine, they will soon have their choice between a bunch of the usual lying politicians and… Darth Vader. Hey, at least he is honest about being a jerkwad. Yes, Darth Vader has officially announced his candidacy.

The Dark Lord of the Sith told RT news, “I am prepared to take responsibility for the fate of this country, if fellow citizens do me this high honor. I alone can make an empire out of a republic, to restore former glory, to return lost territories and pride for this country.”

This isn’t a complete prank. Well, it is, but it is an expensive one. Vader is being backed by a real party called the Internet Party of Ukraine which was made official back in 2007. The party has filed all the necessary paperwork and even made the required deposit of $225,225 so Darth Vader will appear as a candidate on the May 25th ballot. If he wins, I hope we finally get a Death Star.

Google Maps Pokémon Challenge: Gotta Fool ‘Em All

This April Fools’ Day, the elite leaders of Google Maps are looking for the very best, like no one ever was. They need your help to catch Pokémon scattered all over the world. The winner gets a chance to officially become Google’s Pokémon Master. Or not. But it can’t hurt to try.

To join the fun, all you have to do is download and open the latest version of Google Maps on your iOS or Android device. Tap the search bar and you should see the words “Press Start” with a Pokéball icon right below the search text field. Tap the words and you’ll launch straight into hunting.

To hunt, just scroll through the map until you find a Pokémon and then tap it. There’s even a Pokédex to make it easier to see how many more you have to catch. The last time I checked there were 150 creatures on the list, coming from the different games in the series.

Will Google really hire the winner? Probably not. Then again we just saw a flashy commercial that must have cost a pretty penny to create. Google can easily afford your services, even just for a day.

Rosetta Stone Klingon Edition: ‘Sup Qoh?

ThinkGeek came prepared for April Fools’ Day this year, with a number of fake items that are silly but not too outrageous that they can’t ever exist. A cynic would say that they’re using the holiday to drive interest up in products that they already plan on making. But one of their joke items doesn’t need to be real, because such is the demand for it that it actually already exists, though not in this exact form. I’m talking about the Rosetta Stone: Klingon edition.

They even had Worf himself pitch in on the joke:

The thing is, if you really want to learn Klingon, you already have a variety of educational books and software to choose from. Because that’s the kind of world we live in. Our civilization is so advanced we get to have the punchline before the setup.

Head in a Jar Prank Perfect for April Fools’ Day

If you want to play the old “head in a jar” prank for April Fools’ Day this year, Instructables editor Mikeasaurus has you covered. Best of all, you don’t need an actual severed head to scare your friends. In fact, the gag is a lot simpler than it looks.
head in a jar 1 620x413magnify

Basically you will be blending two pictures together in a photo editor to create flat image of a head, which is then laminated and submerged in a jar. When the flattened image in inserted into the curved jar, the distortion from the water gives the illusion of a decapitated head in a jar of preserving fluid. See. It’s simple.

See, no decapitation required. And it looks super freaky. So go scare some friends.

April Fools’ Day roundup: hamster beats, pirate’s booty and Play-Doh printing

AF RU

April Fools' Day is tough. Believe us. We know. It's 24 hours of fake news, bad jokes and Gangnam Style references. But not all of it is the internet equivalent to lining a toilet with plastic wrap. Sometimes, good stuff manages to slip through the proverbial cracks in the web. After the break, check out some of the holiday's highlights. If you dare.

Admiral Ackbar Singing Bass: It’s a Carp!?!

Man those Big Mouth Billy Bass things are annoying. Who buys this stuff? You know who you are, and one day you will need to answer for your crimes of purchase. This Star Wars Admiral Ackbar Singing Bass on the other hand is pretty awesome. It’s the Admiral before he crawled out of the primordial soup of his world.

Star Wars Admiral Ackbar Singing Bass
Just press a button and the Admiral starts dancing to the Cantina Song and then he says the phrase you’ve been longing to hear. “It’s a trap!” For him it was. He was caught in the wild and mounted on a wood plaque for your amusement. Display it anywhere you need a dancing fish. This guy is just $39.99(USD) from Thinkgeek. I know where I will be hanging mine up at.

OMG. He was right. This really was a trap. An April Fools trap. He should be saying, “It’s a prank!” However, many people would gladly buy this if it were real – and just like Big Mouth Billy Bass, they’d get sick of it after about 2 minutes.
