Sphero’s R2-Q5 ‘Star Wars’ droid is basically a goth R2-D2

Sphero just announced a new app-controlled robot a few days ago, the Mini, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have anything else in the works. The company has now revealed the latest member of its Star Wars family, R2-Q5, the Empire's version of the be...

BB-8 USB Desk Fan: Fan-Droid

Do you love BB-8? Then you’ll love this desk fan that looks just like the adorable little droid. He’s still got his wobbly little head, but his body has been replaced with an orange-bladed fan.

The rotund droid plugs into any spare USB port for power, and possibly to steal the plans for the Death Star if you’re keeping those on your laptop. Apparently SEGA gave away some of these as prizes in their Japanese game center’s last year, and now you can just buy one outright without pumping their machines full of Yen.

It should be available by June, and you can preorder one now over at NCSX for $26.90(USD).

Check out These Remote-Controlled Star Wars Mouse Droids

While attending WonderCon 2017 in Anaheim, Norman Chan of Tested talked with Mike Senna and Michael McMaster about their custom built Mouse Droids. In case you don’t remember, Mouse Droids are known for roaming the halls of the Death Star and other Imperial buildings, and are pretty adorable as far as speedy little droids go.

These custom built replicas have a mix of handmade and 3D-printed parts, along with motors that make the droids all zippy, and some other parts from remote-controlled vehicles. The end result is a replica that would look right at home in an armored space station.

At the end of the video, the two droids have a little drag race, because why not? They look pretty cool in action.

R2-D2 Pizza Wheel Slices, Beeps, and Boops

I really like pizza, and we bake it frequently around my house. If you like to make pizza too, you need a good pizza cutter. Sure you could go down to Walmart and get a plain pizza wheel for a few bucks, but why get a crappy one when you can get a Star Wars one?

The R2-D2 Pizza Cutter starts out with the standard spinning blade of pizza cutting. The handle is where the cool stuff is. It looks like R2, and has a cutout for a speaker in the base. That speaker makes R2-D2 boops and beeps as you slice up your pie. Sadly electronics in the handle mean you can’t just toss it in the dishwasher, and you need to handwash it.

You can grab yours over at ThinkGeek for just $9.99(USD).

Spin Master’s BB-8 is still cute and you can get one this year

The cute spherical BB-8 was one of the many highlights of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Spin Master's near life-size replica of him was one of our favorite things about last year's Toy Fair. Unfortunately, 2016 came and went without seeing the ad...

R/C Imperial Mouse Droid: Scaredymouse

Since 1977 we have had a crap-ton of Star Wars toys, but there was one that has always been neglected – the Imperial Mouse Droid. This cool toy is so long overdue. You know the one. The little droid from A New Hope that Chewbacca scared off.

The toy version will come with rechargeable batteries, and a wireless remote that can be used to steer it and play movie-authentic sound effects. At last we will have a mouse droid of our very own.

Here’s the really crappy part. The R/C Mouse Droid will only be available from Disney park’s gift shops, when it drops this December. But at least it exists and can be bought! Thank the maker!
