This playful dog-inspired decorative lamp puts the ‘light’ in light-hearted!

Part lamp part adorable tabletop sculpture, the Playful Dog X Lamp is emotional design at its best! Lamps are mainly utilitarian, sometimes they’re decorative, sometimes they’re IoT-connected, but the Playful Dog X Lamp is just straight-up adorable! Designed to look like a dog playing with a ball, the lamp features a sculpture of a canine that’s got the lamp’s glowing orb in its mouth. Whether switched on or off, the Playful Dog X Lamp is made to delight with its inventive fun approach to lighting design. In fact, some 90’s kids would also call this design rather ‘fetch’!

Designer: haoshi design

“Having a naturally playful dog can definitely add color into your life and give you a lot of joy and fun”, say the designers at Taipei-based haoshi design. “The Playful Dog Lamp from haoshi applies the interesting design of the dog biting the ball, which allows the people’s focus on the ray of light. No matter you leave the house or arrive home, it always gives you a knowing smile to the partner.”

Visually, the lamp can be split into its two parts. The light and the base, if you want to call it that. The light assumes the shape of a translucent ball with an LED lamp inside it, while the fixture sits snugly within the mouth of a Shiba Inu in the downward dog position, making it look like the dog’s playfully biting the lamp. Like all of haoshi’s pieces, the animal is in pure white, giving it a classic appeal that allows it to easily fit into most decor, adding a detailed sculptural accent piece to even minimalist homes!

The dog part of the lamp comes crafted from resin, giving it that incredible detail that you wouldn’t get in injection molding, and that would take practically forever with 3D printing.

Designed to be placed anywhere, the Playful Dog X Lamp can be positioned on shelves, tables, or even the floor (provided you don’t have an actual dog who’d get excited at the sight of it). The lamp measures roughly over a foot in length and just about 10 inches in height, and weighs a hefty 2.5 kilos or 5.5 pounds, given that it’s cast from resin. It comes with a warm-white E14 LED light on the inside.

The best doghouse for your best-boy!

Might I loosely paraphrase Mean Girls this fine Wednesday by saying that this doghouse ‘is so fetch’! Literally titled the Fetch House, this doggy-kennel is made from a 3D-printed skeleton that holds a thousand tennis balls to make what I can only describe as canine paradise. I mean look at how pleased the dog looks in the picture above!

The Fetch House was designed by CallisonRKTL as an entry into the Bark + Build Pet House Design & Build Competition held in Dallas, Texas. The house (designed to shelter one incredibly happy canine) comes with a modular internal structure that allows you to compression-fit as many as a 1000 tennis-balls into it. The balls can randomly be pulled out of their individual enclosures for the purpose of playing fetch (hence the name), and can easily be press-fitted back in when done. Conversely, owners can add fewer balls to form patterns in the facade or create windows for light and ventilation. “Ultimately, we would like to create a platform that allows individuals to customize the doghouse design based on their specific dog,” says Brendan O’Grady, VP of CRKTL’s Dallas office. “They can then download the digital model and use a local maker space or their own desktop 3D printer to fabricate the structure.” Now isn’t that just paw-fect?

HTC applies for ‘Fetch’ trademark, tracking device passes through Taiwan’s NCC

HTC applies for 'Fetch' trademark, tracking device passes through Taiwan's NCC

Just what the heck is the HTC Fetch? Well, it's certainly not a phone. In fact, it appears to be some sort of tracking device according to a filling with Taiwan's NCC. Unfortunately, beyond some broad strokes describing the device in a US trademark filing, we're left with only our imagination to figure out how the Fetch might work. Apparently it's a "portable multifunction electronic tracking device for assistance in locating mobile phones, smartphones, cellular phones, portable computers, tablet computers..." The list goes on and on. We do know there's both a hardware (potentially Bluetooth-powered) and software component, and that while there's a lot of talk about finding lost phones or laptops, HTC also sees the potential for "tracking and locating people." Now it's just a waiting game to find out if the company has any intention of actually selling tracking accessories.
