Mass Effect Omni-Blade Weapon Will Save the Universe

I am a huge fan of the Mass Effect franchise, and not just because it has blue cleavage in it. The games have been super cool, and I think I spent as much time mining stuff and building my ship as I did fighting bad guys. They did have a bit too much dialogue for my taste at some points though.

If you are a Mass Effect fan and love cosplay too, check out this awesome omni-blade cosplay weapon. The see-through orange K-resin blade simulates the game’s holographic weapon nicely. It has a flip out blade and is designed to be worn on the right hand. The strap that holds it on the arm is adjustable from 7.5 to 14-inches to fit a variety of sizes.

It will launch in late February on ThinkGeek and can be pre-ordered now for $59.99(USD). I hope to see some hot blue cosplayers wearing these.

iam8bit Postcards from Space: Sender Who

iam8bit recently concluded Postcards from Space, an art exhibition featuring postcards for fictional locations from books, comics, video games, toys and sci-fi and fantasy shows and movies. Fortunately those of us who didn’t make it to the exhibit can get copies of the postcards from iam8bit’s online store.

Each of the 39 postcards measures 6″x 4″ and has imagery from a different artist. You can buy copies of the postcards from iam8bit for $5 (USD) each. Here are a few more samples from the exhibit:

The exhibit also includes the Space Worlds Map, a 36″x 24″ print that has over 70 fictional worlds. It was made by Edison Yan, the artist behind the Videogames World Map. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go and stare at that Dragon Ball Z postcard for the rest of the day.

Cook & Becker Next-Gen Art Dealers: Double Fine Art

There are hundreds if not thousands of stores and galleries that host fan art. But if you’re looking for prints of official video game art and concept art Cook & Becker should be on your list of stores to visit.

Cook & Becker collaborates with artists, developers and studios that own the rights to the art so that it can make them available as prints at reasonable prices. Although the store is focused in official video game art (at least at the moment), it hosts original digital art as well.

Mass Effect Liara Figure is Big, Blue and Beautiful

Blue tentacles for hair aside Liara is one of the hottest characters in the Mass Effect world. If you are unfamiliar with Mass Effect, shame on you. This is one of the coolest sci-fi game properties out there. So far there are three games in the series, and all three are worth playing.

mass_effect_liara_1zoom in

What you see here is a fantastic looking, highly detailed 1/4 scale Liara figure decked out as she was in Mass Effect 3, complete with her M-5 Phalanx heavy pistol and a pushing out a biotic field. The statue is a limited edition and 1000 units will be made. It was designed by artist Gurjeet Singh, and measures a substantial 19″ tall.

Liara will set you back $329.99(USD) at ThinkGeek.

20-inch Mass Effect Garrus Figure is Wide in the Shoulders

I am a huge fan of the Mass Effect franchise, and the thing I wondered each time I played the game is what is the deal with Garrus’ armor. Why is he so wide in the chest and back area? Does his species have an extra butt where the shoulders should be?

garrus-1zoom in

I get why the Krogan are so wide, they have big hunchbacks. What’s the deal with Garrus, though? If you are a fan of Garrus and his extra wide armor, here is your chance to own a limited-edition statue that stands 20-inches tall, complete with his mighty Incisor sniper rifle.

garrus-5 garrus-6 garrus-2 garrus-7 garrus-3 garrus-4

Only 1,000 units of Gaming Heads’ impressively detailed figure will be made. You can get one at ThinkGeek for $329.99(USD). I wonder if the reason his armor is so wide is because there are actually three creatures in their operating a mechanical lower body or something.

Mass Effect 2 Windows Mod Adds Native Controller Support: What?!

As someone who’s never owned a Windows computer or any gaming computer for that matter, I was very surprised when I found out that the Mass Effect games for Windows never launched with and still don’t have native controller support. I know about it now only because ME3 Explorer forum member Moonshine released a mod for ME2 that adds the feature, including the appropriate UI.

mass_effect_2_controller_mod_windows_by_moonshine_1zoom in

mass_effect_2_controller_mod_windows_by_moonshine_2zoom in

I’ve no way of testing the mod personally, but from what I understand the modded files will work with a variety of game controllers including the DualShock 4, it’s just that Moonshine’s UI will only display Xbox 360 buttons. A small inconvenience for a badly needed feature. Here’s a demo of the mod by YouTuber gojeran:

Proving just how much people want the feature, after his laptop crashed Moonshine was able to raise about $625 (USD) on Indiegogo so he could get a new laptop and make the same mod for Mass Effect 1 & 3. Here are a few screenshots of Moonshine’s ME3 mod:

mass_effect_2_controller_mod_windows_by_moonshine_5zoom in

mass_effect_2_controller_mod_windows_by_moonshine_6zoom in

Moonshine’s first upload of his Mass Effect 2 mod was taken down by a DMCA notice, but he’s since re-uploaded the file, which you can find along with the installation instructions on his ME3 Explorer forum thread. He also hinted there that the Mass Effect 3 mod – at least its first version – will be up by next week, so stay tuned.

How baffling is it that these games still don’t have such a basic feature? I can understand not being able to include it at launch due to resource constraints, but after 4 or 5 years you’d think BioWare could’ve bothered to do what one modder is doing. Then there’s the DMCA notice. If you’re not going to add the support, why are you trying to stop someone else who’s trying to do your job for free?

Mass Effect 3 Scorpion Replica: I Gotta Get Me One of Those

Impress your party members with TriForce’s officially licensed life-size replica of the Scorpion, the powerful heavy pistol from Mass Effect 3 that lobs explosive goo. Just know that its price puts the salary in Salarian.

The replica is 14″ long and 8″ high and weighs a crazy 10 pounds because it’s cast in polystone. It also has LEDs, but not the smoke and particle effects seen in the original gun.

My Talking Elcor Plushie: Sincerely: I Want One

This toy must have gone straight from April Fools’ joke to something that’s actually doable and profitable. Sanshee’s officially licensed My Talking Elcor plush sounds just like its video game counterpart: a cyborg Eeyore.

In case you’re not familiar with the elcor, they’re one of the alien races that feature prominently in the Mass Effect universe. Because of their monotone voice, they’ve become used to describing what they feel or what their tone would be like before actually saying what they want to say. The result is a race of beings that are extremely honest yet sound extremely sarcastic. This cute fellow here is no different.

Since we clearly understood none of that, here’s a captioned video by YouTuber Ashe Lady Insanity:

You haven’t experienced a talking toy until you’ve heard My Talking Elcor in person. You can order it from Sanshee for $30 (USD).

Mass Effect 3 Geth Pulse Rifle Replica: You’ll Shoot Your Eye out, Kid.

Gentlemen, check this out. It’s a 100% accurate replica of a Geth Pulse Rifle from Mass Effect 3. It’s awesome and is a full-scale replica of the in-game weapon. It has LED lights and weighs in at a whopping 20 pounds. This is a man’s toy, a geeky man’s toy.

mass-effect-gethzoom in

Even if it’s not a chick magnet, at least you will have the most awesome weapon for your cosplay. This beast of a Mass Effect replica weapon is limited edition with only 500 units being sold globally.

mass-effect-geth-3 mass-effect-geth-4 mass-effect-geth-5 mass-effect-geth mass-effect-geth-2

I think there probably won’t even be that many of them out there considering the price. It’s hard to put a price on awesome, but for me $975(USD) exceeds that price for me. If you’ve got the budget though, you can pick one up at ThinkGeek now and be the envy of your gamer friends.
