Everybody loves Star Wars! It’s one of the biggest franchises in history and of course it’s spawned all kinds of merchandise, from spin-off movies and TV shows, to countless toys and action figures, books, household items, and my favorite, clothing! There’s so much great Star Wars clothing out there and I’m here to share some of my favorite Star Wars swim suits!

Star War At-AT One Piece Swim Suit


This stylish one-piece is subtle and subdued, not overly flashy, but it’s understated appearance looks good at any pool or beach. The black At-At designs against the white backdrop make for a geeky yet still fashionable piece.

Star Wars BB-8 Boys Swim Trunks


The bright orange color is perfect for summer and it’s not too bright, as it contrasts with the dark blue background. BB-8 is a beloved, relative newcomer to the Star Wars series, at the cute little droid made his first appearance in Star Wars Episode 7. No wonder he’s already so popular, I mean, just look how adorable he is on these swim trunks!

I know these are the only swim trunks for adult men I’ve included, but they are the best I’ve found. The space ships are cool looking and any man wearing these will still feel fashionable without being too nerdy.

I love the print on this swimsuit! It looks like a scene straight out of the movies and it’s a beautiful image. Also, who can resist C-3PO and R2-D2? They are such a great duo!

Okay, I know this is the only bikini on the entire list. I love bikinis, don’t get me wrong, but when looking for something to show off my love of Star Wars, most bikinis don’t have enough fabric to properly show off the love. (They’re better for showing off skin.) Anyway, I thought this bikini, with its simple Star Wars logo definitely shows off a proper amount of geekery.

Blue is my favorite color, so of course I had to include these awesome swim trunks! The color is gorgeous and what little boy doesn’t want to wear a stormtrooper print? These trunks are seriously great!

Technically, these trunks aren’t retro, but I’ve called them that as the design just looks so 70s inspired. It looks like a pair of swim trunks that a boy would be wearing at the pool right after watching the original Star Wars movie in 1977; just look at the images of Chewbacca and Darth Vader and the rest of the gang. I’m a huge fan of retro designs, so these swim trunks are a huge winner.

Can you say cute? I know R2-D2 seems to be on almost all Star Wars merch, but he’s just such a lovable character, not to mention how great he looks as a clothing design. I love this one-piece swim suit. It’s sexy and adorable at the same time.

After so many boys swim trunks, it was about time to feature trunks meant for an even younger age. These cuties are for toddlers and your tiny tot will be sure to look like the coolest kid at the pool. Look at the cartoony versions of Darth and the stormtrooper, they just get my heart!

After featuring so many women’s suits, it was time to show a girl’s swim suit. This tankini is adorable and will show off your future Princess Leia’s love of Star Wars. She will be the coolest princess on the sands of Tatooine.

This might be my favorite swim suit on the entire list. It’s definitely something I could see myself wearing. Darth Vader may be evil, but while wearing this suit, you’ll look evilly sexy.

Long sleeve? Odd choice, you may be thinking, but if you’re planning to go surfing, this might be a good option. Or maybe you’re looking for something a bit more modest or something to help you cover up on an especially burning sunny day. Whatever the reason is, this swimsuit, once again featuring our friend R2-D2, is a great choice.

10 Best Alternatives to Amazon Alexa

Okay, before we get on with this article, you must first know what Amazon Alexa is. If you are not already familiar, Amazon Alexa is a voice. Like Siri, the woman who speaks to us on all our iPhones, Alexa is a voice service that answers questions and helps us. Amazon’s website says, “Alexa powers Amazon Echo, and provides skills that enable customers to interact with devices in a more intuitive way. It can play music, answer general questions, set an alarm, and do much more. Alexa is built in the cloud, so it is always getting smarter. The more customers use Alexa, the more she adapts to speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences.”

Alexa sounds pretty cool, but of course, with any great technology, it is expensive at $180. So, let’s look at some alternatives, shall we?

Google Home


Google Home is every bit as great at Amazon Alexa and Echo. It’s also fifty bucks cheaper, which is easier on all of our wallets. Google Home has an awesome voice recognition tool, and all of the features that Alexa does, such as playing music, setting timers, and setting alarms. Something besides the price that I find preferable about Google Home, is its design. It’s small and blends in with typical home decor. It looks like a decoration you’d place on a coffee table in the living room, whereas Alexa is a somewhat odd looking tube that would not blend in very well. Of course, most of us don’t care much about what our tech looks like as long as it works well, and let me tell you, both Google Home and Alexa are great, it’s just all about the price.

FABRIQ Portable Smart Speaker


FABRIQ is amazing because it can do everything Alexa do, but for a fraction of the price. At only $50, it’s an incredible deal. And guess what? It’s powered by Alexa, so it’s basically the same thing. Honestly, the only downside is the fact that this device is a bit loud, but that’s hardly a price to pay considering how affordable and high-quality FABRIQ is. Also, side note, look how aesthetically pleasing this little speaker is. You can choose from different appearance options as well, to really put your own personality into it.

Samsung SmartThings Hub, 2nd Generation


Samsung SmartThings Hub, like Google Home and Amazon Echo, is a smart home hub. It uses Amazon Alexa, much like other devices on this list, and has many great features. Connect all kinds of devices to it, and soon enough, you’ll have a smart home. The price is great, at only $99. I think it’s a fantastic alternative to Amazon Alexa, and you don’t even have to say goodbye to Alexa, as it’s a part of this device.

Amazon Echo Dot


As you can probably tell by the name, this device is a smaller version of Amazon Echo. It has many of the same features. It can control your home in many ways, such as controlling lights, doors, locks, and sprinklers. It will also stream music, Audible files, and you can set alarms. It has everything you could need from a smart home device, for an affordable price of $50.

Sonos Play:1


Sonos Play:1 is not a smart home device. It won’t control nearly every aspect of your home like some other services, but it can stream music, and that’s about it. If that’s all you want or need, than this is a great option. It will stream Spotify, Pandora, and almost any online radio station. This basic device is a neat little tool that will be useful for any radio or music lover. Sono Play:1 seems a bit expensive to me, as it is about $120, and for something that doesn’t have many of the features as other devices, it’s up to you whether or not you’re willing to spend the money.

JAM Portable Speaker


JAM is comparable to Amazon’s Echo Dot, but it’s even more affordable. For anyone who likes affordability, this is a fantastic option.

LG Hub Robot


This thing is seriously adorable, but it’s not for sale. At least, not yet. It uses Alexa, and it has facial recognition as well as voice recognition. I wish it was actually on sale, because it’s a great looking little device, but there’s a chance it might not actually ever be for sale. It’s in the prototype stage right now, so let’s hope it continues, because I can see the LG Hub Robot being very successful someday.

Mycroft


Mycroft is open-source, which means that it can be added to over time by anyone. It’s built upon Raspberry Pi and Arduino, rather than using hardware like Alexa to power it. Something cool about Mycroft, is that it will integrate with other Smart Home devices, if you own any. Since Mycroft is open-source, its abilities will likely increase over time, as people develop it and eventually perfect it. I love this aspect of Mycroft, and for me, that makes it one of the most desirable devices on the list, even if it’s not one of the cheapest, considering its relatively steep price.

Lenovo Smart Assistant


Lenovo Smart Assistant is extremely similar to Amazon Echo. It even looks the same, with many of the same features. One of the ways in which is outperforms Echo, however, is its better quality sound.

Triby Smart Speaker


To me, this device screams cute, which may or may not be your style depending on who you are. Even its name sounds cute, not to mention its design. But, with all that aside, Triby is a solid device. It can be used as a portable Bluetooth speaker and it can be mounted on your refrigerator and if you download the app to go along with it, Triby has many more features.

Top 10 Best Picture Oscar Winners

Who doesn’t love watching a good movie? There are so many great films out there, and everyone has a favorite. Each year, when the Academy Awards come around, one movie earns the award of “best picture.” You might not always agree with the choice, but the winning movie usually deserves all its praise. In this list, in honor of the upcoming Academy Awards, I’m going to pick what I think are the ten best picture Oscar winners of all time.

Titanic


In my opinion, Titanic is the greatest film ever created. I have watched it at least twenty times throughout my life, and I’m sure I’ll watch it at least twenty more times. It’s a masterpiece in acting, cinematography, music, special effects, and costume. Who can forget the tragic love story between Jack and Rose? Or the climatic scene where the ship begins to sink? Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet deliver excellent, unforgettable performances, as well as the rest of the cast. Titanic is both a beautiful romance, and an epic disaster film, bringing something for every audience member to love. If you haven’t yet watched this brilliant film, please do yourself a favor and watch it!

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King


I wish I could include the other two films in this trilogy as well, Fellowship of the Ring, and the Two Towers. When I watch Lord of the Rings, I watch all three as one complete film. It makes for a long day, but my goodness is it always a good day when Lord of the Rings is involved. Though the other two films didn’t win best picture, I can see why Return of the King did. It has everything an amazing film can possibly offer, with some of the most memorable action sequences in cinematic history, and perhaps my favorite soundtrack. Gorgeous landscapes dot the entire film, making it almost seem as if I’m watching a painting brought to life. I could go on speaking about this movie forever.

Driving Miss Daisy


We all love Morgan Freeman, and if you haven’t seen him in this award-winning film, you’re missing out. Exploring the unlikely friendship between a white woman and a black man during the heated racist time period of the 1950s and 60s in the American South, Driving Miss Daisy is a heartwarming, touching film, showing that good can always be found.

Schindler’s List


Schindler’s List is not a film that should be watched multiple times. It’s heart-wrenching, depressing, and dark, yet it is a film that demands to be watched at least once by everyone. Shot entirely in black and white (except for one little scene that I won’t spoil) you’re first impression may be that it will be boring. That is certainly not the case. You won’t be entertained, but you won’t be able to look away from this horrific look into the lives of Jewish concentration camp victims, fighting to stay alive during the Holocaust.

The Sound of Music


“The hills are alive with the sound of music.” One of the opening lines of this warm musical, and part of one of the most unforgettable songs. None of the films on this list are quite as just plain happy as The Sound of Music is. It’s filled with so many catchy, fun songs, and an adorable love story. I can’t get enough of this lovely film, and it sure would be a good one to watch after Schindler’s List. (Both are about World War II.)

The Godfather


I honestly don’t usually like crime films, but I can appreciate The Godfather for the masterpiece it is. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino are some of the most famous names ever, and from their performances in this film, I can see why. Telling the story of a New York mafia family, The Godfather is full of action, entertainment, and family ties.

Rain Man


Tom Cruise plays a selfish, arrogant character named Charlie, while Dustin Hoffman plays his autistic brother, Raymond. When their father dies, he leaves his estate to Raymond, leading Charlie to discover the brother he didn’t know he had and begin to become a better person. It’s a touching film, and both Hoffman and Cruise deliver excellent performances.

The King’s Speech

It’s a shame this fantastic movie received an R rating for the use of the “f-word,” a few too many times. It’s not a vulgar film whatsoever, and because of its rating, many people will likely refuse to watch it. If you are one of those people, please don’t refuse. There is nothing offensive in the King’s Speech, it is all about a man attempting to overcome a speech impediment and insecurity. Colin Firth’s performance cannot be missed, for it is spectacular, as are Helena Bonham Carter’s and Geoffrey Rush’s.

Forrest Gump


I can quote probably a dozen different lines from this movie, which makes me think that it has one of the best scripts ever written. The dialogue and acting make this film the masterpiece it is, and I believe it is one of Tom Hank’s greatest performances. Numerous historical events are showcased throughout the film, placing the beloved character of Forrest Gump into them. It makes for sometimes humorous, yet also sometimes somber situations. Forrest Gump shows us that no matter who you are, love is possible to find.

A Beautiful Mind


Partly based on a true story, A Beautiful Mind is a beautiful film. When John Nash develops schizophrenia, we are taken on his journey of finding a way to deal with his crippling illness. Russell Crowe’s performances is haunting and emotional, the struggles his character must deal with seem so real and painful, it’s hard to believe Crowe himself did not suffer from schizophrenia.

Those pictures may look cringeworthy now, but this controller decal sure doesn’t.

Anyone who’s played Mass Effect knows all about the steamy romances that can go on, (also the not so steamy) and I think if your Commander Shepard were to wear this dress, she’d be the talk of the town. Pac-Man Dress


Okay, I’ll admit something. I’ve never played through an entire Pac-Man game. It just isn’t my thing. It’s definitely a classic and deserves all its praise, but arcade games and I don’t have the best relationship. Anyway, regardless of whether or not you’ve played a Pac-Man game, this dress is awesome. It looks exactly like the game. Maybe if I wear this I’ll be motivated to play it.

Pokemon Pikachu Dress


Adorbs. Totes adorbs. Pikachu is everybody’s favorite little (what creature is he supposed to be?) uh, thing. He looks very cute plastered all over this dress and no one will ask you what he’s from when you’re wearing it. Don’t you just hate it when nobody recognizes what fandom you’re wearing?

Portal Companion Cube Dress


First of all, I cannot recommend Portal enough. It’s a fantastic video game, one of the most unique I’ve ever played. If you haven’t yet played it, do yourself a favor and buy it! It’s always available for a tiny price and it’s worth every cent. This dress oozes adorableness and the Companion Cube is one of the best parts of the game and the dress of course.

Star Wars Darth Vader Dress


Wait, Star Wars is a movie, not a video game right? Wrong! Star Wars is in everything, it’s on your TV screen, it’s on your soup can, cereal box, and it’s spawned tons of video games. I have not so fond memories of attempting the Return of the Jedi video game and dying over and over again. Anyway, because Star Wars is such a cultural icon, there are many dresses to choose from, and it was difficult deciding which ones I wanted to include. I went with Darth Vader because he’s the coolest villain ever, and sometimes the Dark Side needs some love.

Star Wars R2-D2 Dress


This is actually my favorite dress on the list. I’m in love with how simple, yet cute it is. I like that it has sleeves, so I can wear it to my parent’s house without them freaking out. (They’re very conservative.) R2-D2 is an immediately recognizable character, and I guarantee everyone will like your dress.

The Legend of Zelda Dress


Zelda is my favorite video game series. Much of my childhood consisted of traversing through dungeons, fighting bosses, and saving Princess Zelda. I hold this series so close to my heart that of course I’d want to share my love of it through clothing. I picked this dress because it’s something you can wear anywhere and still be recognized as a Zelda fan, rather than the many cosplay-like options available.

All right, back to the simplistic designs. Luigi is such an underrated character, it’s unfair. He stars in his own great series, Luigi’s Mansion, and he’s just as cool as Mario. (Even though he’s a wimp). I think this t-shirt is great, because just the hat and mustache are iconic enough on their own without Luigi’s face.

Okay, I’ll admit when I first saw the Tanooki, I thought it was a raccoon. And of course, almost immediately, I thought, why the heck is a raccoon flying? Then I did some research and found out that no, it’s not a raccoon, it’s actually a tanuki, a Japanese raccoon dog. (So almost a raccoon). Tanuki’s can’t fly, but whatever, this is a video game, and the tanooki suit is an awesome item in Mario games. Plus, this t-shirt is cute. Really cute.

Much like an earlier entry on this list, this t-shirt brings so much nostalgia into my gamer heart. The NES controller, 8-bit Mario, and all of the other memorable aspects of this classic game are featured on this t-shirt. I find it to be absolutely awesome. Excuse me while I go plug in my NES and fire up Mario Bros. Maybe this time I’ll make it past level one; don’t judge young me, I was terrible at games.

Super Mario Bros Super Show T-Shirt


Who remembers the Super Mario Bros Super Show? No? You probably mentally blocked it, and I don’t blame you. This TV show is crazy, with terrible acting and probably the most racist portrayal of Italians I’ve ever seen, but it makes for some memorable TV viewing. Fortunately, the majority of the show is animated, and its animated parts are far better than the live action parts. This t-shirt features animated Mario and Luigi, the part of the show which you should remember.

Final Fantasy XV


Final Fantasy XV has been in development for years. Fans have been anticipating this game for ages, and now it’s finally here! Final Fantasy is one of the longest running RPG series and one of the most popular. For decades, it’s impressed us with its vibrant settings, fun characters, and intriguing plot lines. It’s inspired and influenced several other fantasy and RPG games, and has become known for its innovation in the gaming world.
This fifteenth installment in the main series takes place in the world of Eos, and you’ll play as Noctis, heir to the throne of his kingdom. Journey with Noctis and his friends on a quest to retake their homeland through engaging battles, exploration of an open world, and classic Final Fantasy elements, such as traveling on Chocobos. There’s endless fun to be had here, from completing all kinds of side quests, interacting with NPC’s, and unlocking new areas, in addition to completing the main story campaign. If you’re a long time fan of Final Fantasy, please take note that this game does not have a turn-based battle system like previous entries in the series.

Watch Dogs 2


Sequel to the 2014 hit, Watch Dogs, Watch Dogs 2, is an open world action adventure game, set in an alternate, fictional version of San Francisco. You are Marcus Holloway, a hacker with the task of dismantling a surveillance system. The gameplay is a ton of fun, as you get to hack (technologically speaking) and slash (violently speaking) your way through the bay area and all of its enemies. You can be aggressive, or choose to take a more stealthy route; there are several methods of attack in this game, and the great amount of variety will keep you occupied for a long time. You can even play online multiplayer, working together with others to complete missions.

Pokemon Moon


Pokemon has perhaps been the biggest franchise of 2016, as well as one of the most popular franchises ever. It’s spawned countless video games, TV shows, movies, and merchandise. If you haven’t checked out anything in the Pokemon series so far, you may want to have a look at Pokemon Moon, the latest release in Pokemon video games. The 3DS is a great portable console, with some of the best games of the past few years. Pokemon Moon is an awesome addition to the series and you’ll have a ton of fun playing it.

The Last Guardian


In development for nearly a decade, and a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian is an action adventure game, where you play as a young child who befriends a giant animal and journeys through a world solving puzzles and defeating enemies. It’s a game full of beautiful visuals and atmospheric settings. You’ll lose yourself in the grand nature of it, realizing that video games are truly art.

Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Special Edition


Skyrim was perhaps the biggest game of the past six years and it was only a matter of time before we saw an upgraded, remastered version. This is still the game you know and love, but with even better graphics to match the current generation of consoles. All of the DLC is included as well, in case you missed out on the DLC the first time around. Skyrim is a true masterpiece, with an endless amount of quests to accomplish, NPC’s to meet, and places to explore. If you didn’t play it when it was first released, don’t miss out on it this time around. It’s an absolute perfect game.
