The exquisite art and subculture of Def Con’s (unofficial) badges

A series of tweets sent me and other Def Con attendees scrambling to get to the Caesers Palace pool as quickly as possible. I cut short a conversation, shoved my gear in my bag and ran out of the press room without an explanation. I was after a piece...

LEGO Bender with Chest Cavity for Booze Storage

This is one amazing LEGO Bender. It was built by Adrian Drake aka BrickFrenzy, for the recent Brickworld convention in Chicago. This LEGO statue stands six feet tall and took about a month to build.

Adrian used around 20,000 LEGO bricks. And as a special bonus, this Bender even has a usable chest cavity for storing all of Bender’s booze and cigars. Now that is what I call a good liquor cabinet.

Sadly this Bender Booze Cabinet is not for sale, but you can always make one yourself. How cool would it be to go to Bender for all of your alcoholic needs?

Bender Wood Stove Ready to Smoke Some Meat in His Shiny Metal Carcass

Futurama’s Bender is quite possibly the greatest robotic character in the history of television or the movies. Sure, there are more sophisticated robots like David in Prometheus, but none has made us guffaw as hard as the perpetually drunken, self-absorbed, belligerent, and conniving robot that is Bender Bending Rodriguez. It turns out that one man likes Bender so much that he turned him into a wood stove.

This bad-ass ‘bot was made by a guy going by the name of “Rob Halftroll”, cut from old gas bottles, welded together to form his torso, neck and head. Bender’s legs were fabricated from tube steel, and cylindrical bands of metal were used for his arms.

Clearly, there was plenty of bending (and welding) that went into the fabrication of the Bender stove, so it might have been nice to have an actual Bender robot to help with the construction.

Robot Hat Turns Babies into Benders

Bender is a complete wise-ass. So are many toddlers – they just don’t realize it yet. At least if you see a little kid wearing this hat, you’ll know they could be trouble.

These robot hats are made by Michelle “Chell” Black, and are crocheted with the potty-mouthed robot’s trademark antenna and googley eyeballs. They’re available in multiple sizes, so whether your kid has a tiny noggin or a huge one, she’s got you covered.

It’s available over on Etsy for $25(USD). Shiny metal ass sold separately.

Futurama Yahtzee: Bite My Shiny Plastic Dice Cup!

I know it’s a primitive dice game, but I’ve always loved Yahtzee. I think it’s because it’s basically like playing poker, but with dice. And what better thing to combine with my compulsive gambling habit but a drunk-ass, foul-mouthed, beer-swilling bending robot?

bender Yahtzee

That’s exactly what you’ll get if you pick up the Futurama edition of Yahtzee, which replaces the boring old red dice cup with Bender’s pointy head. In addition, the dice have had their standard black dots (also known as “dice pips”) surgically removed and replaced with the heads (or at least the eyeballs) of your favorite characters – Fry, Leela, Amy, Professor Farnsworth, and Dr. Zoidberg – in addition to Bender as the high-scoring lucky number six.

So accidentally freeze yourself for 1000 years, and thaw out over at ThinkGeek to buy the Futurama Yahtzee set for just $20(USD).

Japan builds a better robot bender, still doesn’t run on beer

Japan builds a better robot bender, still doesn't run on beer

Futurama may have set an unreasonably high bar for the next-generation bending unit, but Opton's T-WIN20 KDM inches slightly closer to the perfect drinking buddy of tomorrow. Unlike traditional robot benders, the T-WIN20 KDM can process and bend objects without the need for human assistance. It won't run off (or brew) Beer like MomCorp's premier bending unit, but forgoing meatbag assistance is a start. Check out the ¥15,500,000 ($194,000) pipe mangler after the break.
