This Briefcase Doubles As A Bulletproof Shield

mts-briefcase

There are parts of the world where you’d be better off wearing a bulletproof vest. Heck, even a full suit of armour might even be a good idea in some spots. But that’s uncomfortable and cumbersome, and it turns out there are alternatives. Like the MTS Multi-Threat Shield briefcase, which looks like a regular laptop bag until you realize it’s time to unfurl it and turn it into a legit shield. A simple “flick of the wrist” is enough to get the transformation going, so you can be protected quickly. And it’ll stop “multiple impacts from most handgun, knife, shotgun and pistol caliber sub-machine gun threats. (Protection against high-powered rifles is available with a Level III insert plate; sold separately.)” It’s not super light at 8 lbs., and definitely even heavier with a Level III insert plate, but for the kind of protection this affords you we figure you can suck it up. It’s $900 to own.

Bulletproof Baseball Hat: Protects You From Bullets, Not Balls

Bulletsafe

Protect your noggin but look hip while you’re at it with BulletSafe. As its name implies, this baseball cap keeps you safe from bullets. The rest of your face is still exposed, but it protects the back of your head– or at least half of it, anyway. What BulletSafe gives you that other bulletproof gear for your head is discretion, as the embedded ballistic panel is virtually undetectable. And since it looks like a typical baseball cap, would-be assailants will be none the wiser.

Bulletsafe is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $99 will get you one of your very own.

Fire Away, Fire Away!

This might just be the first car EVER designed from the ground up to be completely BULLETPROOF! Not just bulletproof though- according to designer Mike Enayah it could also brush off a few IEDs like they were flies. We’re talking tank tech here. You’d need it too with all those haters that be jelly! Aesthetically, its like a Maybach and a 1967 Shelby had a baby… er.. if they could have a baby. I want it just so I can blast David Guetta’s Titanium song and not even be kidding!

Bulletproof Suit Looks Just Like Normal Suit

Garrison-bulletproof-suit

It’s hard to imagine the kinds of scenarios where a bulletproof suit would be needed, aside from James Bond-esque assignments, but we’re not foolish enough to believe they don’t exist. If you’re one of those people, you’ll probably know that such suits usually look somewhat conspicuous, giving up some comfort in exchange for protection. But the suits from Garrison Bespoke are different. They use a special carbon nanotube fabric that’s soft and supple under normal circumstances, but instantly hardens on impact from an exterior projectile. Last year, the company worked with the US 19th Special Forces in developing it, and the material is 50% lighter than the Kevlar normally used in similar applications. It reportedly stopped .22 and .40 caliber bullets in field tests.

Of course such protection won’t come cheap, with the individually tailored suits starting at $20,000. Given that the target market is oil executives and high finance bigwigs, we suspect they’ll be more than able to settle this particular bill.

Bulletproof Suit: Stay Alive and Look Good Doing It

Garrison Bespoke is a luxury suit tailor in Toronto, but its latest product might as well come from the research labs of a secret intelligence agency in the UK. It’s a three-piece suit that’s strong enough to withstand attacks from a hunting knife and even 9mm bullets fired at close range, thanks to several layers of carbon nanotubes hidden inside the vest and suit jacket.

According to The Globe and Mail, Garrison Bespoke co-founder Michael Nguyen started development of the stylish life-saving device when one of their clients was assassinated. But because they are suit makers – and because bulletproof vests already exist – Garrison Bespoke ensures that its clients will enjoy protection without sacrificing style or comfort.

The company outlined its goals in developing the suit as follows: “First, to be modern and stylish. Second, to be light and comfortable. And, third, to be reliable and safe.” The video below is from CityNews’ report on the custom suit:

So how much will this ballin’ bullet-stopper cost you? The Globe and Mail says that a custom three-piece suit will set you back at least $20,000. I’m not sure if that’s in Canadian or US Dollars, but there’s not much of a difference between their values anyway. Garrison Bespoke also has a bulletproof polo shirt for $800, for casual yet life-threatening Fridays.

Google Glass Bulletproof app gives the wearable a lock screen (video)

Google Glass Bulletproof app gives the wearable a lock screen (video)

In our review of the Explorer edition of Google Glass, we were surprised at the lack of security features -- there's nothing to stop anyone from picking up your pair, accessing your data and having complete control. We're obviously not the only ones to have noticed this, and developer Mike DiGiovanni, who has his own set of high-tech specs, has come up with an app to alleviate those worries. Called Bulletproof, the app registers when Glass parts from face and engages a lock screen, which can then be disabled with a user-defined combination of swipes and taps on the wearable's touchpad. A brief video demo of the app is available below, and those with the hardware will likely know how to get it loaded using the files linked at the source. It's good to see the dev community already putting out useful software, but it does make you wonder why Google didn't think of it first.

Bulletproof Whiteboard Offers Those in the Classroom a Last Line of Defense

My heart breaks every time I hear about school shootings and other incidents where people with guns fire at innocent people for no apparent reason. It’s especially heartbreaking if it happens at a school, no less, where almost no one expects to get hurt because they’re there to learn.

In response to the most recent school shooting in Connecticut, military armor maker Hardwire has taken it upon themselves to create something that I never thought you’d need in school – bulletproof whiteboards and bag inserts to provide teachers and students with their last line of defense.
Bulletproof WhiteboardWhen faced with a shooter, they can basically take the bulletproof whiteboard and use it as a shield to protect themselves. The whiteboard comes with two handles so it’s easy to grip and handle. While the whiteboard might not be large enough to protect the body of an adult, it will be enough to at least shield the vital parts of the person’s body.

Hardwire has also made a bulletproof insert for backpacks, transforming bags into potentially life-shaving shields in the face of danger.

Bulletproof Insert

The bulletproof whiteboard is available in two sizes: the smaller clipboard version costs $109 (USD), while the larger 18×20 inch board is priced at $299. It can shield a person’s head and torso. The bulletproof bag insert is priced at $100.

VestGuard UK Ballistic iPad Panel test: can this slate stop a bullet or two? (video)

DNP VestGuard UK Ballistic iPad Panel test can this slate stop a bullet or two video

We've seen tablets used as skateboards, tablets used as car dashboards and many, many tablets hacked to do things they weren't intended to do. This, dear readers, might be the greatest hack of all: modifying a tablet to make it bulletproof.

When VestGuard UK announced its £49.99 (about $80) Ballistic iPad panel we wasted no time in requesting a unit to sample. The company was kind enough to send us one across the pond and we did what any gadget- and firearm-loving nerds would do: put it squarely in the crosshairs. Can the iPad really stop small arms fire when augmented with a tiny little sheet and what does that iPad look like after being on the receiving end of both 9mm and .357 Magnum rounds? Trust us, you'll want to click through and see for yourself.

VestGuard UK Ballistic cover will protect your iPad from tablet-related gunplay

VestGuard UK Ballistic cover will protect iPad from tabletrelated gunplay

If you find yourself in the position of regularly having your iPad shot at, VestGuard UK sure has the tablet case for you. The Ballistic cover is made of "cutting edge uni-directional aramid fibers processed to a high tolerance in VestGuard's state of the art facility" that make it possible for the case to stop bullets from a 9mm handgun. In other words, the company's bulletproof claims are "not a metaphor," as stated in the post-script of its press materials. And judging from its current selection of products, which include body armor, de-mining helmets and Kevlar gloves, the company knows a thing or two about heavy duty protection. Not a lot in the way of information on availability at the moment, however, since the covers are not quite ready for sale.

Marudai Bulletproof iPhone Case Can Resist a .50 Caliber Rifle

If you’re the kind of person who takes their iPhone into a firefight, then you know that the usual flimsy cases won’t do much, especially against larger caliber guns. Check out Marudai’s bulletproof iPhone case. They claim that it will stop a .50 caliber bullet. Tough enough for you?

marudai iphone bulletproof case

I suppose if you’re in a war zone, this could come in handy. The case isn’t very sexy, and the back is a bit thick, but I guess that thickness is needed to stop a machine gun from going to town on your iPhone. I’m sure that soldiers and mercenaries who carry smartphones will appreciate this.

If you want one, you’ll need to order it through Marudai’s site[JP] and you’ll have to pay ¥52,500 (~$650 USD) for it. It’s certainly not cheap, but then again if it keeps your lines of communication open when you’re under fire, it’s well worth it.
