Chalkboard Car Invites Street Art and Graffiti from Passersby

Ever snickered as you walked past a car that vandals drew stuff on with soap? That laughter will disappear as quickly as it came when you reach your car and see that they’ve done the same to you.

This happens more often than most people like. But someone who wants the opposite to happen – and by opposite, we mean that he wants people to draw on his car – is artist Phillip Romano.

He coated his 2004 Hyundai with gallons of chalkboard paint and fastened a vanity license plate that says ‘DRAWONME.’ As you can see, people are more than happy to oblige.

Hopefully they leave the windows alone, because that’s one area the chalkboard paint isn’t on, for obvious reasons.

Chalkboard Skateboard

It’s like having a new skateboard every day! While the execution of this Instructables isn’t really the best for riding, the idea is smart. The guy basically made his own skateboard and brushed some chalkboard paint on top in the process. Of course you could do something similar with an existing board, which would be quicker, cheaper, and probably make for a better ride. But cool idea, skater creator dude.

i-Woody: Wooden Chalkboard Screen Smartphone for Kids

Now your child can have their own age-appropriate smartphone without taking (and likely eventually damaging) your smartphone. The i-Woody is a wooden phone shaped toy with a blackboard screen. The earbuds are sponges that kids can use to erase the screen. Want an app for that? Grab a piece of chalk and draw it. Unlimited imagination possibilities for kids (and adults).

Iron Man Chalkboard Art: Tony Stark? More Like Tony Chalk

How is your break room at work? Pretty sucky right? I bet it could use some art. And not that overpriced commercial stuff from some stuffy gallery, or worse yet, so stupid motivational posters. What your break room needs is something like this chalk drawing of Iron Man and Tony Stark looking through his HUD.

This awesome chalk art was spotted by the father of 14-year-old Young-Avenger-Wiccan along with the note “Look at our chalkboard in the break room!”

It’s awesome that it is in a place where it can be appreciated. It’s also awesome that they happened to have a ton of chalk and an amazing artist on staff. Whoever drew this, come forth! You deserve all the credit in the world.

Cornell students build spider-like robotic chalkboard eraser out of Lego, magnets, fun (video)

Robotic Eraser

While you were trying to pass Poetry 101, Cornell seniors Le Zhang and Michael Lathrop were creating an apple-polishing Lego robot that automatically erases your prof's chalkboard. A final class project, the toady mech uses an Atmel brain, accelerometers for direction control, microswitches to sense the edge of the board, magnets to stay attached and hot glue to keep the Lego from flying apart. As the video below the break shows, it first aligns itself vertically, then moves to the top of the board, commencing the chalk sweeping and turning 180 degrees each time its bumpers sense the edge. The duo are thinking of getting a patent, and a commercialized version would allow your teacher to drone on without the normal slate-clearing pause. So, if designing a clever bot and saving their prof from manual labor doesn't get the students an 'A', we don't know what will.

Space Invaders Chalkboard Drops Down, Reverses Direction and Increases Speed on Your Wall

Retro gamers looking for the perfect thing to hang on the wall, look no further! This Space Invaders chalkboard is a great combination of gamer art with practical utility.

Created by 265design, the Space Invaders chalkboard is a dead ringer for one of the game’s numerous aliens, and provides ample writing surface for keeping track of shopping lists, reminders, or alien battle plans. I’m happy that they chose to go with this particular Invader, as some of the other shapes wouldn’t have provided much space to write notes. Can you imagine how little you could write on that pointy invader from the top row?

The Space Invaders chalkboard measures 23-1/2″(W) x 17″(H), is made from 3/4″ plywood and coated with primer and six coats of durable chalkboard paint, so it should stand up to plenty of writing and erasing over the years. You can grab it over on 265designs’ Etsy shop for $43.50(USD).

Panasonic’s interactive plasma display means never having to clean another eraser

Will writing a sentence on the chalkboard 200 times ever be the same, once we switch over to interactive pen functionality? And how will such technologies affect the opening of The Simpsons? These are important questions we must ask as classrooms ready themselves to move over to boards like Panasonic's 65-inch TH-65PB1. The interactive plasma display can be oriented horizontally and vertically and utilizes a new electronic pen system that the company promises will deliver "high-speed drawing and smooth and highly accurate writing." The whiteboard killer will be hitting the US, Europe and Japan late next month. Panasonic has also promised to deliver 85- and 103-inch versions before year's end. More information on the death of chalk dust can be found in the press release after the break.
