Denim-covered furniture and gym equipment are a striking nod to the iconic material

It may now be a common sight on jeans, jackets, and even some bags, but there was a point in history when denim was considered revolutionary and cool. It has been and still is plastered on billboards and advertisements for casual wear, but denim was once a symbol of the American dream. From miners to cowboys to blue-collar workers, denim jeans have been worn by people from all walks of life, striving to make a living and establish a home for their families. The way we live today is drastically different from those times, yet denim remains a staple of clothing, and this almost eccentric collection of homeware and other projects pay tribute to the material in a way that reflects how much has changed over the decades.

Designer: Harry Nuriev

As a material, denim is known for its rugged looks and properties that have made it favorable in certain rough conditions. Of course, denim clothing today has more or less become a staple of casual wear all over the world, but for a very long time, it has been a classic American symbol that was associated with workers and the middle class. Times have changed, and so have the way we live and work, and these denim-clad products convey that fact in an interesting new way.

The pieces are already unique and distinctive on their own. After all, who would have dreamed up gym equipment covered in this blue fabric? A relatively soft DJ booth is also a bit ironic when you think about it, and a denim wall paneling almost makes you want to run into it for fun. Other objects are a bit more understandable, like tables and chairs that give off a sense of comfort even just by looking at them.

The collection, however, seems to also make a statement about the modern lifestyle, especially where “home” has become as much a place of activity as it is of rest. The denim pool bed set, for example, seems to embrace anything and everything that you do at home, whether it’s sleeping, eating, working, or connecting with family and friends. It is the extreme manifestation of our hybrid work life after the COVID-19 pandemic, where borders and divisions are torn down, for better or for worse.

Denim today has become a part of both everyday wear as well as the haute-couture world, but it also once symbolized the American dream. It has left an indelible mark on human culture, and this odd yet beautiful selection of furniture and products for the home honors that history while also emphasizing how much denim is part of everyday life, at home, at work, and work-from-home.

Love My Pair Of Denim Frames

This is one of those designs where you go … why didn’t I think of it before! Down right damn mister! Solid Denim Sunglasses – it can’t get cooler than this if you ask me. A pair of sunglasses made with denim to perfection; smooth at the edges and inside surface with rugged denim appeal all over. If you wonder what motivated the team, then it’s the simple conviction that something inspiring could be crafted from those good old Blue Jeans.

The techniques and processes involved in modern composite engineering combined with infusing layers of denim fabric with a carefully selected resin gave birth to Solid Denim. The strikingly unique sunglasses are hand crafted and made from between 3 and 10 layers of denim.

Thankfully the team is detail oriented and as a person who swears by the quality of them (I wear glasses), Carl Zeiss Vision lenses provide the oomph factor to the frames. Initially there will be a choice of 2 polarized (CR39 plastic) lenses in Dark Grey and Brown. As the pledges increase, more lens options will be available.

To keep your interests tickled, there are three unisex styles, and all available in three different color schemes. The flagship model is called the Cassini, the square-ish frame is christened Celsius and with it’s sweeping curves and striking keyhole bridge, the Kepler holds my interest the most.

Jack Spencer & Alex Boswell, the men behind this designs are quite interesting innovators. I have seen them deliver some kick-ass products in the past, and with this new venture, I’m sure they’re gonna hit the ball out of the park. When I asked them why denim glasses, Jack related his passion for eyewear and evidently he knew that he wanted to take on an eyewear project and turn it into a business venture someday. It’s a given that the business model had to be unique for it to be successful, hence the Solid Denim Sunglasses!

I/O Denim Jeans Add Perfect Pocket for Smartphones

Depending on what type of jeans you wear, I think most of us will agree that it can be uncomfortable having to carry your smartphone in the front pocket. Years ago, I had a pair of dress slacks that had a little pocket midway down the thigh that unzipped that you could poke a smartphone into. I thought that was a great invention.

A company called I/O Denim is running a Kickstarter campaign to create premium denim jeans that have very similar pocket on the leg designed to hold your smart phone for quick and easy access. Other than having that fancy little pocket above the knee for your smartphone, these are your basic denim jeans. The jeans are made in the USA, and unfortunately are far from cheap – costing roughly twice as much as a pair of your standard Levi’s – though they’re no more expensive than fancy designer brands.

The maker says that the First Edition jeans fall somewhere between skinny jeans and straight leg in the way they fit. I guess that means they won’t be too tight and they won’t be too loose. Initially, they’ll be available only in men’s sizes 32, 33, 34, and 36.

A pledge of $100(USD) will get you one of the first 50 pairs of I/O Jeans, saving $15 off of the regular price. The campaign is about 70% of the way to its goal and wraps up on 12/30/12, so if you want a pair, you should order them now.
