A coffee grinder that fits your millennial interior aesthetic

My day only really starts once I have had my cup of coffee. To me, it is not a beverage but a life-juice that awakens my mind and my soul! Being a coffee enthusiast, I have a whole mini barista set up in my kitchen – the espresso machine, the steam wand, the tamper – all of it. But what most of us skip is the coffee grinder and it is truly a taste-altering step. This shaded coffee grinder by Husky Design will tempt you into making coffee the right way!

Coffee grinders add a whole new level of “fresh” to your beverage, there is a different quality that bubbles up when you grind whole beans and use it in your machine rather than pre-packaged grounds. Especially when the coffee grinder looks this sleek, how can you not want to get a machine just so that you get to use this grinder? It almost looks so smooth as if it was carved from one piece of glass. The minimal yet eye-catching bright button seamlessly fits into the lid which has a translucent top to give you a peek at your beans.

Unlike the usual black or grey coffee grinders, the gradient shades of this radiate a happy feeling and give the underrated gadget a colorful personality. For me personally, the whizzing sound of the coffee grinder also wakes me up, it is like a sound signal to my brain that we must start functioning which is then rewarded by the smell of fresh grounds. Take that extra step and grind your beans, you will love coffee even more (if that is still a possibility)!

The creators of the Moka Pot have a cute stove-top espresso dispenser too!

Perfect for quick indoor espresso brewing, Bialetti’s Mini Express is just adorable, the way it sits on a stovetop, mimicking a big fat coffee machine. It comes with a base that’s similar to the Moka Pot, but with a direct dispenser on top that pipes the freshly brewed (it doesn’t get fresher than this) espresso right into a tiny espresso cup.

With its retro-Italian design (complete with the Vespa-inspired colored variants and cups), the Mini Express is perfect for the lover of the rich black beverage that forms the bedrock of all good Italian coffees. The base is rather small and may require a stove-top-reducer to sit squarely on. Load the coffee grounds and water in and screw the top on (throw in a stick of cinnamon for that Christmassy flavor), before lighting the gas underneath. The coffee brews, bubbling up to the surface and out the two spouts on the top, right into the cups that rest on the Mini Express’s adorable platform! There’s a variant with a single-pipe dispenser too, if you’re the kind to savor your coffee alone!

If Santa Claus owned a portable espresso machine, this would be it…

Back in a winter-themed seasonal avatar, the Nanopresso from Wacaco is perhaps one of the smallest, most portable espresso machines in the world. It compresses every element of a coffee-maker into a form-factor small enough to fit right into your bag, and pair it with either a Nespresso pod or your own coffee-powder (placed in the Nanopresso’s pod) and you’ve got yourself espresso on the go, anywhere, anytime.

Partnering with artist Emma Tissier, Wacaco’s Nanopresso now comes in a bright red color, complete with seasonal artwork. Titled the Red Tattoo Pixie Edition, this Christmassy coffee maker is set up for a limited run, and comes with its own EVA foam case for you to carry around. Just add your coffee powder or pod and some hot water, let the pressure build up, and pour the freshest espresso right into Nanopresso’s cup. For a seasonal touch, top it off with a cinnamon stick and a spritz of Kahlúa!

The Twist Press brings joy to the process of coffee-brewing

Twisting is a pretty common interaction that we’ve sort of taken for granted. You can use it for any sort of secure tightening (or loosening) action, or even for compression and expansion, especially given that it requires much lesser effort… take the car-jack for instance.

The twisting action is a fun and functional one, and it found its way into this Joseph Joseph Lemon Juicer, and consequently into the Twist Press, a hand-operated espresso maker that can rival a state-of-the-art, expensive, espresso machine. The Twist uses a container with a helical guide, and a plunger that twists downwards, forcing the liquid through the coffee powder. It creates a high-pressure that’s effortless and powerful enough to churn out a thick coffee concentrate that you most definitely wouldn’t get with a french-press or a pour-over.

80% of the fun is in operating the Twist (the remaining 20% is in drinking your coffee, duh!) With the simple, effortless interaction that is a whole lot easier than applying vertical pressure (as you probably would with an aeropress), the Twist allows you to brew the coffee you desire. Just by regulating the amount of water and the brew time, you can make yourself anything from an intense, thick shot of espresso, to a tall, irresistible glass of black coffee. With just three cylindrical parts that can easily be rinsed under running water or placed in a dishwasher, maintaining the Twist is as simple as operating it is… Be careful though, you may find yourself making too many cups of coffee!

When Coffee and Mechanics collide!

Essentially the most simplified version of a french press, the Newton is effortless because it uses a Type 2 Lever to reduce the amount of effort needed to extract every single bit of goodness from your grounds. This rather fresh looking device sits on any table-top or even wall-mounts, not letting a small or cluttered kitchen stop you from getting your daily fix. The steps are pretty simple too. Start with a nice hot cup, place and press your coffee grounds into the lower chamber of the Newton. Screw the lower chamber into place and pour hot water into the upper chamber before pulling the lever up. Then delight in the hipster routine of pumping the water through the grounds and out the bottom into your toasty hot coffee cup. The entire process is fun, non-electric, and effortless.

The Newton uses high-quality seals, piston design, and a leverage system to give you 8-10 bars of pressure. Depending on how hard you press down on the lever, and how coarse or fine your coffee grounds are, you should be able to perfect the art of making coffee that’s a 100% product of your work. Plus, its unusual wood, black sheet metal, and orange anodized aluminum color combination will definitely add a splash of energy to your kitchens and your mornings!

The Bold Looking Cold-brewer

There’s something innately calming and beautiful about the ATMOS. Not only does it make the brewing process feel easy, it makes the brewing process LOOK easy too. The fact that the entire product is just two bottles and an intermediary filter unit in an hourglass format feels easy on the eyes, and it’s fun to watch the water literally traverse from one bottle, through the coffee grounds, and into the other, tinted with the golden brown color we’ve known to love!

The ATMOS takes the components required in the pour over brewing process and simplifies them separately and as a whole too. The entire apparatus comes with three bottles (only two are needed for brewing) and a threaded interconnecting module made of stainless steel. The procedure of brewing is literally narrowed down to three steps… Fill, Tamp, and Flip. Each bottle is crafted out of borosilicate glass, with a capacity to store up to 5 espresso shots, and comes with a 28mm threaded neck, although the thread pattern is slightly different from the kind used in regular PET bottles. However, this means the bottles can be cleaned with any regular household bottle cleaner. The intermediary stainless steel (316 marine grade) component comes in two parts that fit together to form the core of ATMOS’s brewing unit, and separate for easy cleaning.

What’s beautiful about the ATMOS is its visual and functional simplicity. It separates the three steps into three zones, letting you fill water in one bottle, pack (tamp) your coffee grounds in the intermediary unit, and flip the apparatus to allow the brew to collect in the empty bottle below. You can adjust the intensity of the brew by changing the ratio of the coffee grounds to the water, while the resulting brew tastes markedly better than most immersion brewers, not just because of the cold brew process, but also because each water drop is made to pass through the coffee, gathering flavor along the way. The ATMOS is also much faster than traditional cold-brew coffee makers and the fact that its shape resembles an hourglass feels like a beautiful bit of visual irony, but at the same time adds a hypnotic beauty to the brewing process while also inspiring patience as you, mesmerised, watch the water travel from one receptacle to another, transforming in color, taste, and aroma along the way.

The ATMOS comes with three borosilicate bottles (with caps), along with the main Stainless Steel interconnecting body. The kit even packs a cleaning brush and a food-safe descaler sachet. Designed to look and feel familiar, the ATMOS has a transparency and an aesthetic that sits well on most tables and kitchen counters. Plus, with the ability to store your brew in two of the three bottles and use the brew for anything from the ever-popular espresso to the humble cappuccino, to even an odd espresso martini, the ATMOS makes cold-brewing an art that’s for every type of coffee lover. With the way the ATMOS looks, you won’t be addicted to just the caffeine, you’ll be addicted to the brewing process too!
