Origami Orthopedics!

Never did I think that something as elementary as paper folding could see itself having medical applications. The Bone Aid is a simple flat-packed board with a printed folding guide. The guide allows it to be folded in three different ways, making it an effective cast for elbows, legs or ankles. All one does is tear the Bone Aid out in the desired shape, follow the folding patterns, clip it into place and secure it with straps. Since it’s made out of PolyPropylene (PP), it can be folded easily into its desired shapes. Plus, used widely in the food industry, PP is safe to use in food and medical applications. With its three-birds-one-stone approach, the Bone Aid is perfect for areas with little to no access to medical expertise and equipment.

The ZeGoBeast Electric are scorpion-like creatures that are powered by an Arduino microcontroller and come with an array of sensors. The optional parts are a tail, a grabber, a Silly String shooter, a radio receiver and an Android tablet. There’s also a bundle that comes with a VR headset and Bluetooth controller. The kits will also come with printed tutorials on assembling and programming the robot.

Pledge at least $199 (USD) on Kickstarter to receive a ZeGoBeast Electric kit as a reward.

Chandelier Illusion

The inspiration behind Jacob Mazor’s Flat Chandelier came from a desire to turn the single hanging bulb in his flat into proper lighting, but having a limited budget that didn’t allow for it. Totally been there! The result is a playful pendant illusion. What it lacks in diffusing the bulb’s brightness, it makes up for in adding character and charm to any interior! Better yet, it’s super-affordable and flat-pack ready. Own it here!

Flat-pack Laptop Stand Offers Form & Function

I’m sitting here, typing this post on my desktop computer, but more and more people are using laptops as their everyday machines. Heck, I use a MacBook Pro to get stuff done whenever I’m not at home. The trouble with laptops is that they can get pretty hot. Here’s a cool laptop stand, that packs down flat for easy travel.

Itamar Neiger’s minimal laptop stand can be made out of plywood or a foamed polymer sheet. The design was conceived to serve two purposes. To give laptops a better angle for typing, and to lift it off the working surface, allowing better ventilation and to prevent overheating.

The stand disassembles neatly and fits into itself, so it’s easy to carry around when you’re on the go. I need one – when can I 3D-print my own?

Flat-Pack Elegance

To keep production costs to a minimum, the Nort table is constructed from a single, planar kit derived from the same 1.5cm thick ash wood board. You’d never know by looking at it, but the flat-pack design can be constructed in seconds by simply sliding supporting pieces in their designated slots. Complimenting the warm ash is a center-placed ceramic disk that provides a finishing touch of refinement. Hit the jump to see the video teaser!

It even comes with a built-in handle at the top so you can carry it around easily if you need to. The completed chair might not look like the prettiest or most comfortable thing out there, but at least it’s functional. And during emergencies, that’s probably all you’ll need.
