1. Healthy Eating

In wellness-focused kitchens, gardens are vital, enabling you to grow nutritious produce and promote healthy eating while reducing reliance on stores. Integrating them brings joy and tranquillity, whether through simple planters or innovative hydroponic setups like ‘refrigerator’ gardens. Hydroponic systems offer indoor vegetable cultivation, needing consistent light typically from grow lights, best suited for separate spaces like a pantry to avoid disrupting evening routines.

A vital aspect of a wellness kitchen is its capacity to nurture social connections. A key design trend involves crafting spaces that encourage collaboration and interaction. One effective method is designing a generous kitchen island with space for food preparation, allowing multiple people to engage in cooking, alongside areas for standing and conversing, as well as seating for comfortable interaction, including defining a clear boundary between the kitchen and living area.

3. Good Ventilation

The wellness kitchen should incorporate air purification systems, including kitchen chimneys and exhaust fans, to reduce toxins, minimize pollutants, and ensure clean indoor air quality. Adhering to VOC limits for interior paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants, insulation, and flooring is also essential. The kitchen should also feature windows to facilitate natural ventilation and improve indoor air quality by replacing stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air.

4. Natural Light

Enhancing natural light by enlarging windows and adding skylights brings proven health benefits such as increased productivity, improved moods, and energy conservation. LED lighting, with its longevity and energy efficiency, further complements natural light, while also potentially alleviating seasonal affective disorder. A well-designed lighting scheme should include ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a layered effect, promoting overall well-being in the wellness kitchen.

Designer: Nat Martin and Sean Hammett

The Sunday Light, conceived by designers Nat Martin and Sean Hammett, is a groundbreaking overhead LED fixture designed to bring the mood-boosting effects of daylight to any space, particularly in dreary English winters. Suspended beneath a reflective panel, it diffuses light akin to Earth’s atmosphere, promising to infuse rooms with the invigorating sensation of a sunny day. Serving as a remedy for seasonal affective disorder, it delivers 30,000 lumens of warm, comforting light, boasting a CRI value of 93 for a natural and pleasant ambiance. Its intense yet gentle illumination experience uplifts mood, energy, and alertness.

5. Use of Natural Materials

As people seek a deeper connection to nature for greater happiness and tranquillity, natural materials are gaining popularity in kitchen design, with stone and wood being prime examples. Combining these natural elements with modern ones seamlessly integrates both aesthetics, capturing the essence of each.

Sebastian Cox’s Mycelium pendant lamps are grown, not made, utilizing mycelium—a sustainable, vegan alternative to suede and leather. Teamed with researcher Ninela Ivanova, the “Mycelium + Timber” project explores mycelium’s potential in commercial furniture design. Each lamp undergoes a 4–12-week growth process, where mycelium fibers bind with willow wood inside molds filled with cultivated fungus, resulting in a unique, compostable composite material.

6. Introduce Pocket Doors

Designer: Accuride

To maintain cleanliness and organization, it’s advisable for a wellness kitchen to minimize open shelving. Yet, for those who favor the appearance of ample open shelves, pocket doors offer an excellent solution. These doors enable convenient access to stored items during meal preparation and can be closed to keep shelves free from dust when not in use.

7. Display & Storage

Designer: True Manufacturin

In a Wellness Kitchen, fresh produce is showcased through glass refrigerator doors or grown in a kitchen garden, promoting accessibility. To meet consumer needs, refrigeration options in the ideal Wellness Kitchen offer varied temperatures and humidities for organized and visually appealing storage, featuring glass doors, multiple compartments, and concealed compressors to minimize noise pollution.

8. Biophilia

Biophilia, rooted in Greek for “life” and “love,” embodies the human urge to connect with nature, essential in wellness kitchen design. This strategy integrates natural elements like plant walls, greenery, nature-inspired crockery, skylights, and large windows to foster physical and psychological well-being, reduce stress, and boost creativity.

With their sleek design and captivating aesthetic, these glasses are sure to captivate guests and elevate the ambiance of any occasion.

9. Inclusive Design

Enhancing wellness involves considering homeowners’ ages, heights, and abilities during the planning process, including features like non-skid floors, a raised dishwasher for comfortable access to top and bottom racks, various seating heights at the island to accommodate all family members, and deep drawers organized for easy access. Additionally, ensuring enough space for wheelchair maneuverability and adapting countertop heights for cooking or food preparation contributes to a more inclusive and accessible kitchen design.

10. Compost

Effectively managing food waste in an eco-conscious manner is a significant concern for individuals striving for sustainability, as placing food waste in the garbage leads to unpleasant odors, attracts pests, and necessitates more frequent collection. Composting emerges as a wellness kitchen trend, with innovative compost bins efficiently managing food scraps, effectively eradicating kitchen odors and fruit flies. With benefits like reducing landfill waste and promoting garden growth, composting seamlessly integrates into the ethos of a wellness kitchen design.

Designer: Byeonkyu Park

The rise in food delivery services has significantly impacted our eating habits, often leading to unhealthy lifestyles and increased waste. While some services offer healthier options and sustainable packaging, they often fall short in reducing overall waste. Enter Toggle, a composting device designed to transform uneaten food and its packaging into nourishment for plants. This innovative solution allows you to process leftover meals and materials like paper and wood at home, reducing waste volume and producing homemade fertilizer. Toggle’s discreet design resembles a stylish can, featuring safety measures and user-friendly interfaces. It encourages a more responsible lifestyle, ensuring both your plants and the planet benefit from your choices.

This wearable device is the most scientifically effective way to treat knee pain

Designed to look like a tiny helmet for your kneecap, the Kneeflow uses a unique combination of heat, light, and massage to relieve knee pain. Heat helps boost blood flow, light stimulates the cells to repair themselves, and massaging helps ease pain. The Kneeflow works faster than pills, better than those burning sprays, and promotes healing without any chemicals or even so much as a doctor’s prescription.

Whether you’re hurting from a tough workout or injury, dealing with chronic joint pain caused by age, or just looking to keep your knee in peak shape and performance, the Kneeflow is designed to rejuvenate the joint and relieve pain by treating the issue on both a surface as well as a deep level. The combination of heat treatment and massaging airbags both work on the surface to increase blood flow and provide physiotherapy to your joint. Nineteen individual infrared lights, on the other hand, work on a much deeper level, targeting the root cause of the pain by helping damaged cells regenerate themselves. The Kneeflow’s control panel lets you choose between multiple modes depending on whether you’re looking to recover from stiffness or pain, repair any injuries or stress caused to the joint, or just relax your knees after a long day and keep your joints at the top of their game.

Designer: Kneeflow

Click Here to Buy Now: $144 $249 (42% off exclusively for YD readers). Hurry, only 10 left! Raised over $176,000.

The Kneeflow’s design is highly intuitive, and all you really need to do is strap it over your knee like you would a knee guard. An LCD touchscreen lets you then calibrate the Kneeflow’s settings, choosing from modes as well as manually adjusting temperature or airbag pressure. The heat setting goes all the way from 113°F (45°C) for relieving soreness and stiffness, up to 131°F (55°C) for treating sharper stinging pain. Once you’ve selected your mode, the Kneeflow goes to work. The airbags pulsate, simulating the feeling of getting a soothing massage that relieves pain and relaxes you. Simultaneously, the Kneeflow also uses heat and light therapy over a period of a 15-minute cycle, after which the Kneeflow automatically shuts off. The Kneeflow’s 15-minute cycle is hyper-customizable, allowing you to increase or dial-down certain elements of the procedure depending on exactly what you need.

What sets the Kneeflow apart is the fact that it treats injuries and pains without really any invasive form of medication like pills, surgery, or even those topical sprays. It works effectively to address the root cause of the pain, and promote the body to heal itself, covering a variety of ailments from your regular joint inflammation/pain or tired & stiff knees to more serious issues like meniscus or ACL tears. The device was tested at last year’s Berlin Marathon, has the backing of medical experts and sports therapists who tout the benefits heat and light therapy, and even managed to get a testimonial from ex-NFL player Noah Dawkins who uses it after workouts or training for his current role in the Michigan panthers at the upcoming UFL. UFC fighter Herbert Burns also used the Kneeflow to nurse his ACL after an injury in 2022.

The Kneeflow starts at $249, although YD readers can snag it at a 42% discount for just $144. It’s designed to be wireless and portable, so you can carry it around the house or even with you to work or in your gym bag. A 15-minute cycle is recommended to provide daily relief and therapy, and you can charge your Kneeflow using a USB cable that comes bundled in the box. The Kneeflow ships globally with a 1 year replacement warranty.

How To Design For Wellness In Interior Design

Wellness design’ is on the rise, focusing on prioritizing people’s health in the design process by considering factors like lighting, air quality, and connections to nature. As interior design significantly affects mental health, it should also support our health and well-being. Note that incorporating wellness into interior spaces is fundamental to fostering successful and healthy lifestyles where physical, emotional, and aesthetic aspects should be considered, leveraging sensory effects. Wellness entails utilizing sustainable natural materials, optimizing natural light and airflow, judiciously employing artificial lighting, designing layouts for social interaction and private contemplation, enhancing existing pieces through upcycling, and manipulating color to influence mood.

This holistic approach extends beyond interiors, encompassing the broader environment through mindful material sourcing. Key strategies include optimizing natural light and airflow, fostering tranquil private areas with a connection to nature, employing natural materials, and organizing space effectively for seamless functionality. These considerations contribute to creating environments conducive to overall wellness. Here are key factors to take into account when incorporating wellness into interior design.

Natural Light and Ventilation

As natural light significantly influences circadian rhythms and boosts serotonin levels, it is important to prioritize maximizing natural light in the interior spaces to support a healthy sleep cycle. Wellness architecture prioritizes healthy airflow and toxin elimination, achieved by allowing rooms to breathe and incorporating features like large windows, high ceilings, and vents. Plants are also essential for cleaning the atmosphere, making greenery a must-have for any space.

Artificial Lighting

Light plays an important role in wellness design, significantly impacting our daily lives by regulating our wakefulness and sleep cycles. This influence stems from our circadian rhythm, a self-regulatory system. Harsh light disrupts our sleep-wake cycle, while low light levels can induce fatigue.

Thermal Comfort

As thermal comfort is affected by air movement, temperature, humidity, and human behavior, the building should be oriented according to the position of the sun. Strategic placement of windows, treatments, overhangs, and landscaping can enhance the thermal comfort of your home.

A Clutter-free Space

A cluttered environment tends to drain our energy and impact our mood negatively. When thinking about interior design and mental health, the best thing is to have a functional layout that is easy to organize and tidy up. Optimize your space with fluid, flexible organization to minimize stress. Conceal necessary but unattractive items while displaying meaningful décor. Close off messy areas behind doors for visual clarity and peace of mind. Invest in furniture pieces that suit your needs or are multifunctional so that they take up less space.

Biophilic Design

The rise of biophilic interior design taps into nature’s mood-boosting power, integrating these principles for functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces that promote mental health. Scientifically supported benefits of nature, such as stress reduction and improved health, emphasize the importance of incorporating plants and natural elements into interiors. These additions not only enhance air quality but also elevate mood and reduce anxiety. Simple touches like hanging baskets or kitchen herb gardens can effortlessly infuse color and charm into living spaces.

Color and Mood

Color significantly influences a room’s mood and emotions where lighter colors create an airy, spacious feel, while darker tones offer intimacy. Neutrals like black, gray, white, and brown balance passive and active colors. Active hues like yellow and pink stimulate creativity, while passive ones like blue and green promote calmness. Personal preferences should guide color choices, as emotional responses vary. Color plays a significant role in shaping mood, impacting the emotional well-being of the end user. Tailoring the color palette to suit the primary function of each room enhances the space’s intended purpose.

Natural Materials

To reduce the risk of off-gassing from synthetic fibers in fabrics and paints, avoid manmade materials in your home. Opt for essential oils instead of artificial fresheners to improve air quality. Furnish with natural materials like wood, organic cotton, organic linen, and wool for healthier living spaces. Sustainable organic materials are essential, extending beyond transparency in sourcing to encompass waste reduction, renewability, energy efficiency, and non-toxicity. Note that treated materials, such as chemically stained wood, chemically sealed tiles, flooring with formaldehyde, and fire-retardant fabrics, can release harmful compounds into the air, often unnoticed.

Sleep Well

Good sleep forms an important component of wellness and rejuvenation. Additionally, comfort is essential in wellness-focused interior design, with ergonomics ensuring user-friendliness. It encompasses psychological, physiological, and anatomical comfort, alongside efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Neglecting any of these elements renders the space ergonomically incomplete.

Designer: Hastens Beds

Find time to relax and get a good night’s sleep on an ergonomic mattress. Hästens beds epitomize the use of premium natural materials, sustainably and ethically sourced, ensuring their potential for future reuse. Renowned for its exceptional properties, horsehair provides unparalleled support and pliability, augmented by its innate ventilation system. Independently tested for allergens, horsehair remains hypoallergenic, boasting natural antibacterial qualities for a hygienic sleep environment. Processed meticulously since the 1800s, horsehair undergoes rigorous cleaning and disinfection, resulting in a pristine, resilient filling material.

Complementing horsehair, soft cotton facilitates airflow, promoting quicker sleep onset and deeper rest. In contrast, non-porous materials lack ventilation, fostering moisture retention and bed mite proliferation. Selectively sourced and meticulously sorted, horsehair variants ensure consistent quality across all products. Additionally, wool and flax are utilized for temperature regulation, static dissipation, and sound absorption, culminating in a harmonious blend of comfort and performance. Crafted with precision, spring systems, including pocket and Bonnell spiral designs, offer tailored support and longevity, backed by a 25-year warranty.

Sustainability

Having sustainability as a wellness focus in the home involves incorporating eco-friendly materials such as linoleum, floral leather, and cork into furniture, as well as utilizing vintage pieces. Additionally, integrating cutting-edge technology helps optimize energy consumption within the spaces. By employing computer simulations to track the sun’s trajectory, one can accurately determine the necessary cooling and heating requirements for each area. Choose green products free of VOCs and harmful chemicals to optimize a healthy environment. Consider materials like wool, stone, bamboo, cork, hempcrete, clay, and other bio-based options. Recycled steel and plastic are great for architecture and furniture design. Buying secondhand items is an effective way to reduce your footprint.

Lighting

Light is increasingly pivotal in home design, with spaces crafted around natural light sources and smart lighting systems mimicking daylight. Natural light is central to the discussion, offering significant health and wellness benefits by enhancing productivity, alertness, and mood. It not only influences our day-night rhythm but also impacts our vitamin D balance crucial for bone health. By strategically employing lighting and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we create adaptable lighting schemes that render spaces both versatile and aesthetically pleasing. Customizing lighting to suit each room’s purpose helps regulate mood and enhance productivity. Additionally, minimizing exposure to blue light by reducing screen time before bedtime promotes improved sleep quality and reduces anxiety levels.

Wellness in design is increasingly prominent across architecture, furniture, and interiors, driven by a growing public awareness. The pandemic has accelerated this trend as people reassess their lifestyles and prioritize mental and physical health. With more time spent at home, there’s a heightened focus on adapting living spaces to accommodate remote work and other needs.

The world’s first ‘wearable’ pain-killer uses dual-light therapy to boost healing, and is on 40% discount

Kineon’s MOVE+ Pro isn’t your average health wearable. While most wearables track your health, the MOVE+ Pro improves it. Also known as a portable light therapy device, the MOVE+ Pro relieves pain without relying on sprays, pills, or injections. It works non-invasively, using two forms of red light that help circulate oxygen-rich blood within a targeted area to reduce inflammation, heal tissues, relieve chronic pain, and accelerate recovery. “While exercise is good for our health, it can be hard on our bodies,” say the folks at Kineon, who developed the MOVE+ Pro as a safe way to deal with injury, fatigue, and chronic pain. Unlike sprays and ice packs that work on just a surface level, the MOVE+ Pro’s lights travel deep into the skin to boost blood flow, and unlike pills, they can be used without any risks of side effects.

Designer: Kineon Labs

Click Here to Buy Now: $429 $699 (40% off). Hurry, deal ends in 48 hours!

Portable Design – Find fast relief whenever and wherever you feel pain and inflammation.

Light as a form of medicine may sound odd on the face of it, but phototherapy has existed for over a century, with the use of infrared lamps to help the body effectively circulate blood flow. While the technology has largely been expensive and bulky, the MOVE+ Pro condenses it down into a tiny, portable format that is affordable, and can be carried and used wherever you go, whether it’s in bed after a tough day at work, after a grueling session at the gym, post sports, or even during the day to relieve chronic body/joint pain.

Dual Light Technology – Deeper penetration and faster results to joints, muscles, and other tissue through our exclusive dual-light technology.

The way the MOVE+ Pro works is by employing two specific types of light: 650nanometer red LEDs, and 808nanometer infrared lasers. The LED light, visible to the naked eye, works on the surface level, enhancing collagen production, blood circulation, and reducing inflammation. The infrared laser light, although invisible, penetrates deeper, promoting tissue recovery and cell regeneration to treat deep-rooted chronic pain such as osteoarthritis or cartilage damage. This dual approach ensures a comprehensive treatment, addressing both superficial and deep-seated issues. Each of MOVE+ Pro’s modules comes with 8 LEDs and 10 laser diodes to provide the right dosage over a targeted area.

Sniper-like Accuracy – Design allows you to accurately pin-point problem areas for fast and effective relief.

Using the MOVE+ Pro is surprisingly straightforward, with three such modules that can be used independently, or strapped together. It’s all about positioning the devices over the affected area whether it’s around your knees, or on your shoulder, elbows, neck, thigh, stomach, or any other part of your body experiencing pain. A quick 15-minute cycle with the MOVE+ Pro can make a significant difference in alleviating pain and treating injuries, accelerating body recovery – something that diminishes with age.

Safety is, understandably, a primary concern when it comes to any new health device. The MOVE+ Pro, in this regard, is designed to be risk-free, can be used without consulting a medical professional, and is even backed by athletes in the NFL, NBA, and MLB. It’s based on decades of research, is designed to be non-invasive, and doesn’t involve ingesting or applying chemicals on your body (which can have their own side effects)… but more importantly, it’s portable, letting you carry it around wherever you go, and with Kineon’s sizeable 40% discount, it’s highly affordable!

This Tabletop Spinner puts the Meditative Power of a Japanese Zen Garden on your Desk

“Meditation has a branding problem”, says Tim Ferriss and he couldn’t be more right. For centuries, we’ve believed that meditation happened through sitting in certain poses, closing our eyes, chanting sounds, lighting incense sticks, and emptying our mind. Sure, these techniques hold true for a certain group of people, but meditation is much broader than that. Achieving a meditative state can be brought about through a variety of techniques. The Japanese believed that stimulating your brain (not emptying it) helped achieve a meditative state, which helped inform the design of their Zen gardens. These gardens promoted peace while giving the mind the right environment to feel in control and to clear itself of unwanted thoughts. Now while visiting Japan isn’t really a viable solution every time you want to meditate, MOTION ZERO brings that slice of Zen-like tranquility to your tabletop instead.

Designer: Giacomo Di Muro of MOTION ZERO

Click Here to Buy Now: $99 $249 (60% off). Hurry, only 7/670 left! Raised over $118,000.

Designed as a functional artpiece small enough to fit on your desk, MOTION ZERO engages your eyes, fingers, and mind to help you de-stress, calm down, focus, and boost your memory and productivity. The mini Zen garden features an all-metal construction with a rippled base, three chrome ball bearings, and a shimmering chrome egg that spins in the platform’s central disc.

To engage with MOTION ZERO, simply begin by spinning the egg in its tray and watch as it slowly begins defying gravity. The egg starts by rotating horizontally, but gradually shifts to a vertical position, rotating vigorously while hypnotizing you with the reflections off its chrome body. The three ball bearings, while they seem like decorative elements, actually control MOTION ZERO’s functionality. Slide them in their ridges and you can toggle between the tabletop spinner’s play and focus modes, control the spin time, or the spin speed.

Although it isn’t entirely obvious, electronics under MOTION ZERO help control the entire experiment, creating the hypnotic optical effect of the vertical spinning egg. The egg has a magnet concealed within it, while the base it rests on uses a series of cleverly positioned electromagnets (as thin as PCBs) to spin the egg and even guide its pattern or influence its speed. Sensors measure the fluctuations in magnetic fields to identify where the egg is, knowing exactly when to activate different magnets in the base. The design seems delightfully analog, but it hides its inner components flawlessly, relying on unconventional bearing-based controls that make anyone believe in its magical effect.

MOTION ZERO makes the case that the meditative state can be achieved without hyper-conventional techniques. By simply allowing you to focus on itself, the tabletop device’s spinning egg gets you to enter a state of mental tranquility. The dazzling reflections off the curved chrome surface allow your mind to instantly forget everything else it was distracted by, and the egg actually invites you to nudge it ever so gently so that your hands are engaged as your eyes and mind are.

Timer – The slider has 6 positions. Infinite spinning time, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes.

Focus Mode – The metal egg will move around influenced by 21 different “randomness” sensors.

Anchor Mode – This mode helps bring back focus to the metal egg. Perfect if your mind tends to wander during meditation.

Play Mode – Ranging from from falling over, to barely standing up to high speed without any sideways movement.

The beauty of MOTION ZERO is in its ability to appear analog, but hide its electronic sophistication rather well. The three ball bearings seem like minor accessories to the spinning egg, but in fact, control the entire experience. The first bearing lets you alternate between Focus, Anchor, and Play modes, allowing you to choose whether the egg spins in circles, in place, or requires you to nudge it every now and then. A second bearing lets you control the spinning egg’s speed/intensity. Slide the bearing up or down its rippled base and that informs the egg’s spinning frequency. The third bearing influences the egg’s spin-time. At its lowest position, the egg spins entirely on its own, collapsing after 5 minutes thanks to gravity and friction. At its highest position (infinity), the egg keeps spinning indefinitely, recreating the almost unnerving effect of being stuck in a time-loop or a dream (like in that famous Nolan movie). A subtly concealed USB-C port powers your MOTION ZERO, allowing it to pull its visual trickery with flawless ease as people wonder how it defies gravity, logic, and science.

Visual and Tactile Meditation – Every line, curve, texture, and material was chosen and designed to engage your hands as well as your eyes.

The entire process feels like an act of meditation. From adjusting the bearings, spinning the egg, and watching it go from horizontal to vertical as it rotates furiously. Time and space can vanish once your eyes are affixed on the spinning egg, and whether you’re a novice or an expert at meditation, the entire exercise is highly effective at getting you to focus on the egg and forget everything else around you… a mental state that anyone could argue is highly meditative in nature. Through this, MOTION ZERO aims at boosting your ability to focus, destress, and increase your mental capacity with time. Additionally, it also helps increase your creativity as well as improve your sleep, but don’t take our word for it. Available in silver and black variants, you can grab your own MOTION ZERO for as low as $99.

Click Here to Buy Now: $99 $249 (60% off). Hurry, only 7/670 left! Raised over $118,000.

This lightweight smart ring helps you snooze so you don’t lose

Smart wearables and activity trackers are en vogue these days, but with few exceptions, most of them seem to be hyper-focused on the “activity” part of our fitness. Sure, being active and burning calories is always a good thing, especially considering the sedentary lifestyles that most people adopt, but these aren’t the only factors that will keep you living healthy and enjoying life longer. Sleep and recovery, stress and relaxation, and even the coffee you drink all contribute to your overall health, and the Ultrahuman Ring AIR provides a window into those metrics with a stylish wearable that’s so lightweight and comfortable that you might even forget you’re wearing one.

Designers: Apoorv Shankar and Yogansh Namdeo

Click Here to Buy Now: $348. Hurry, only 3/405 left! Raised over $250,000.

Activity trackers, which evolved from single-purpose pedometers, are nothing new. They come in different forms, from smart bands to smartwatches to the new breed of smart rings, but they have many common characteristics. They’re designed to detect your activity and your body’s vitals as they’re related to those activities, sometimes with some sleep tracking on the side. The latter, unfortunately, doesn’t get as much attention as sweating it out during the day, which further feeds the misunderstanding that sleep is something you can cut down if you need more hours in a day. The Ultrahuman Ring AIR, however, takes a very different approach, one that places sleep above all to provide a more holistic view of your current health so that you can take the necessary steps to improve it.

Sleep Index – Derived to help you understand the various sleep stages such as Deep sleep, REM sleep, Light sleep and being Awake.

Circadian Phase Alignment – A way to sync with your body’s natural rhythm. Analyse temperature minima, align your lifestyle and optimise your sleep-wake cycle for improved cognitive function, energy levels, and hormone balance.

Recovery Score – Derived from a blend of key metrics, including Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Heart Rate, and Skin Temperature, this score provides insights into various signals your body sends throughout the day, enabling a deeper comprehension of its needs.

Movement Index – The score is based on metabolic equivalent (METs) and depends on how much you move throughout the day rather than just your workout for a specific duration during the day.

Stimulant Window Recommender – Designed to optimize your stimulant consumption for enhanced productivity and sleep management.

The Ultrahuman Ring AIR gives due importance to your sleep index, which gives insight not just into your sleep length but also to sleep efficiency, restfulness, consistency, and other markers that indicate the quality of your rest. It also gives you a Recovery Score, using body signals like heart rate variability (HRV) and skin temperature to detect your levels of stress. Of course, it doesn’t just tell you that you’re stressed but also offers concrete ways to calm down, harnessing a huge library of premium content from athletes and experts available on the Ultrahuman app. Ultrahuman even has a “Stimulant Window Recommender” that tells you the best time to drink your favorite coffee blend to have the best effect on your productivity. It also features a revolutionary Circadian Phase Alignment that helps you sync with your natural body rhythm, optimizing your sleep-wake cycle for improved cognitive functions and more balanced health. There’s also Phase Advance that nudges you to move and enjoy healthy sunlight to help shift your sleep schedule earlier. There are even more features coming, including respiratory rate and that oh-so-desirable blood pressure measurement.

Water Resistance – Provides reliable water resistance up to ~330 feet.

Of course, none of this valuable information would matter if your smart ring didn’t make it to the end of the day or didn’t make it out of the swimming pool. Thankfully, the Ultrahuman Ring AIR is not only elegant but also long-lasting, both inside and out. It has an advertised battery life of 6 days, ensuring that you get the most out of all the metrics that it can collect 24 hours a day. The tungsten carbide that coats the titanium outer shell provides a double layer of durability, while its water resistance enables you to wear it for a swim or a shallow dive to a depth of 330 meters. Despite all this toughness, the smooth, hypoallergenic inner shell and lightweight construction make it a joy to wear all throughout the day, especially when you’re sleeping at night.

Being more aware of one’s health is a great thing, but it’s easy to overlook or even take for granted how sleep and recovery play a critical role in our well-being. With the Ultrahuman Ring AIR and the Ultrahuman app’s extensive wealth of knowledge and content, you can get a more holistic grasp of your body’s state and take well-informed steps to make sure that you’re living your healthiest so that you can live life to the fullest.

It also lines up perfectly with this AI boom we’re having, relying on an expertly tuned model that captures and analyzes 3D data to provide human-comparable results. Why? Because not everyone can afford a personalized trainer. For people looking to just get an expert opinion on how to upgrade their health, FitMe is a perfect, compact, no-nonsense solution, whether you’re a beginner, a fitness aficionado, or even an experienced athlete.

FitMe’s ecosystem can be separated into two parts – the hardware and the software. As far as the hardware goes, the FitMe camera looks like something you’d see from a high-end company like Apple or Bang & Olufsen. The slim vertical camera module comes in all-white, with a nickel-plated vertical stem. Housed within the camera module are multiple sensors quite like the ones you’d see in a 3D scanner or even your iPhone’s notch. The sensor array works in tandem to capture a highly detailed 3D model of you that gets stored and processed locally in the computer unit located in FitMe’s base. No data gets sent to the cloud, and all locally stored data is encrypted to prevent malicious actors from getting access to your data.

The software is FitMe’s secret sauce, because it takes that scanned data and turns it into accurate metrics and a customized health plan. A companion app for your smartphone helps you track your progress while reading all your metrics, from your fat percentage to muscle mass, and even accurate body measurements without needing to bust out a measuring tape. Moreover, the app doesn’t just supply analytics but also creates an actionable plan based on your goals. The FitMe app can formulate workout schedules, nutrition plans, learn your personal limits, and track your progress against them. The broader goal is to even boost your healthspan and lifespan by creating a fitness regimen that allows you to achieve health goals that help you stay healthier even in your elder years, giving you a better quality of life in the long run.

The FitMe team features a veritable who’s who of the AI and ML world, including engineers from MIT and UCLA with companies like Amazon and Intel on their resume. FitMe has also received multiple grants from MIT Sandbox, and comes backed by advisors/funders who have also helped build other health-tech brands like Peloton.

Each FitMe starts at $359 which includes the camera unit and a free 1-year membership to the FitMe app and AI trainer for 1 user. However, early backers can grab the camera unit and a lifetime membership to the app and AI trainer for $599, which also lets you add as many as 5 user profiles to the app, making it a great pick for families and friends who live/train together. FitMe’s hardware ships as early as December 2023, just in time for you to get ahead on those new year’s resolutions for 2024!

This handsome smart ring keeps tabs on your health so you can keep wearing your favorite watch

Keeping track of our health has become almost a necessity these days. Knowing not only the number of steps we’ve taken but also our heart’s rhythm or our blood oxygen level can mean the difference between life or death for some people, especially when the symptoms aren’t evident. Fortunately, we have enough technologies today to cram all the necessary sensors into something the size of a watch. Not everyone is a fan of these smartwatches and fitness trackers, especially when it means having to give up their watch collection. That’s where RingConn comes in, a smart ring that does everything a smartwatch can and more while also looking stylish on your finger and freeing your wrist for your favorite classic timepiece.

Designer: Guoxing Wang

While smartwatches seem like a miracle of science and technology, cramming sensors and components that we’d often see as distinct medical gadgets in clinics and hospitals. At the same time, however, they’re not always the most convenient or most comfortable devices for such purposes. They also have short battery lives, which means you have to regularly remove them to charge them, and they will not always match your sense of style, even if they’re the more expensive smartwatches from designer brands.

In that context, RingConn is an even bigger miracle, considering it can do all that a smartwatch can without the downsides. In fact, it works even better because you wear it on your finger instead of a wrist, where there’s less muscle and skin to get in the way of “seeing” your blood vessels. That way, you can get an even more accurate reading of your body’s state or activity 24/7. That means having access to a wide range of health data, including sleep quality, heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, stress levels, as well as your typical steps, walking distance, and calories burned.

For example, it not only detects when you’re sleeping but can properly detect different stages of sleep, from light to deep to REM. It even knows when you’re taking a power nap and properly categorizes that in its sleep report. The highly accurate PPG (PhotoPlethysmoGraphy) sensor can keep track of your heart rate continuously on its own, or you can opt to manually focus on certain times and events manually. Combining your heart variability and heart rate, the RingConn will alert you when you’re experiencing stress and remind you to wind down a bit. All of this data, including your steps and blood oxygen level, will be available in the mobile app for free forever, no monthly subscriptions required.

The icing on top of the RingConn’s amazing performance is its stylish and comfortable design. Made from durable and lightweight titanium, the ring won’t cramp your style. In fact, you might even forget you’re wearing it, which makes it perfect for all kinds of sports and activities where a smartwatch would normally weigh you down. It’s also IP68 certified for dust and water resistance, so you don’t have to worry about getting it wet at all. And, of course, that leaves you free to wear the watch you want, be it digital or mechanical, without having to worry about losing sight of your health. And with a 7-day battery life, together with a 500mAh charging case, you can go for as long as three months without even having to plug it in.

Despite having loads of features that leave its closest competitor, the Oura Ring Gen3, in its dust, the RingConn still manages to score a significantly lower SRP with a $149 Super Early Bird 40% discount. You’ll even get a free ring sizing kit before your order is shipped so that you won’t have to worry about the perfect fit. Whether you’re leading a very active and sporty lifestyle or you just want to keep a close eye on your health, the RingConn promises to deliver the health data you need without compromises and with plenty of style.

Zen-inspired salt air diffuser helps clear your respiratory pathways and boosts immunity

There is, they say, a benefit to having salt in your air. It helps with building a healthy mucous layer on the inside of your airways, which then traps dust, toxins, germs, even viruses. Moreover, breathing in salt air just naturally calms the body – it’s why we feel relaxed after spending a day at the beach. Salty air is anti-microbial, helps beat allergies, and helps increase your body’s immunity. However, the prospect of salt breathing indoors isn’t quite high unless you live on the coast. Handheld salt inhalers help solve this problem, but they’re irritating to use, and aren’t as effective as just breathing salty air around you. The Salt Stone helps disperse salt into your air, making it like the air you breathe at the beach.

The idea for the Salt Stone device came to co-creators Jason Lundy, Carlos Lamarche, and Sara Arnell, three city-dwellers who wanted to address the overall air quality problem. They quickly realized that existing solutions for salt breathing don’t quite deliver in all departments. Larger salt breathing devices need to be plugged into, and smaller salt nasal sprays just give you a single burst of salt air, instead of a continuous supply. Moreover, while humidifiers claim to do the trick, they don’t actually put salt into the air, just water. Realizing there was a need that wasn’t being met properly by the ‘ideal product’, Jason, Carlos, and Sara decided to build it. The result was Salt Stone, a unique, sculptural appliance designed to look like a stack of Japanese Zen Stones, lending an undeniable elegance to the overall product.

Breathe Better with Dry Salt Therapy – The centuries-old practice of Halotherapy, or dry salt therapy, is the process of breathing in microscopic salt particles to naturally cleanse deep inside your lungs and airways. It is often recommended by doctors, wellness practitioners and athletic coaches.

Dry Salt Therapy at Home – Salt Stone uses a micro version of professional salt room technology to aerolize dry salt air into your lungs, right in the comfort of your home.

Designed to look less like an ‘appliance’ and more like health-focused decor, the Salt Stone device opts for an aesthetic that you’d love to keep anywhere around the house instead of hiding away in your bathroom cabinet. Underneath its zen-inspired minimalistic exterior, however, lies the Salt Stone’s salt diffusing technology, which grinds salt down to its smallest particulate level, before aerolyzing into the air you breathe.

Using the Salt Stone is as easy as switching it on and choosing from 3 different settings – 5 minutes (high salt concentration), 10 minutes (medium salt concentration), and finally 15 minutes (low salt concentration). Just keep the device 3 feet away from your face, switch it on, and breathe the salt air. The Salt Stone also comes with a built-in battery that lasts 10 hours on a full charge. You can use the Salt Stone while sleeping, working, meditating, etc. Each Salt Stone ships along with one month’s supply of salt packets, a salt funnel to load the salt into the device, and a cleaning brush to help maintain your Salt Stone.
