The Flapjack Octopus is also known as the pancake devilfish which is a pretty badass name if I don’t say so myself. The case is made of silicone and kind of looks like a UFO. Unfortunately you’ll have to take the case off to access the camera or to charge it, so it’s somewhat impractical. But it looks really cool.

But if you’re not willing to give up your trusty iPhone and all those 99 cent apps you’ve already purchased for a $5000 phone, you can still add a ridiculously expensive bumper case to it. The Gresso Titanium Bumper is hand crafted and comes with a backing choice of genuine Italian leather or exotic crocodile leather.

Each one takes 8 hours to mill the titanium, then 4 hours of manual directional polishing before being assembled by a single craftsman (who probably has really muscular arms from all that hand polishing). How much would you be willing to pay for such a luxurious case? As much as the iPhone it’s made to protect? Not at all- it’s way way way more. These cases start at a mere $1000 and go as high as $10,000 (although I don’t see any models on their site above $1500 at present). It’s all about status.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone in gadgetland. Today we have the most Portland of objects- a real chocolate iPhone case. Portland, OR based craft chocolate maker Woodblock Chocolate teamed up with Portland based handcrafted Apple accessory maker Grove to create a delicious if not slightly impractical iPhone 5 case out of solid chocolate. The case was precision milled out of a dark chocolate then hand sanded for a sleek finish.

Don’t worry, it was designed with a higher melting temperature so as not to melt in your hands. And by your hands, we mean someone else’s hands because these cases are not for sale (the chocolate gunks up the case-making machinery). You probably don’t want to eat anything off your iPhone anyway, those things are germ factories.

This interesting case has a wavy channel on the back of the case that uses the phone’s built-in LED flash to light up the entire case. The light is reflected throughout the lines on the whole case and there’s an on/off switch on the bottom so you can still use the light as a flash for the camera.

The whole thing is controlled through an app that does more than just turn the light on and off. The app also lets you set the phone to light up as a visual alert for texts, emails, push notifications, and more. It also lets you set a few motion-sensitive settings so you can use your phone as some sort of flashing rave accessory at a concert or club. The kicker is that it actually looks really good even when it’s off, the ribbons of light form an organic-like pattern across the the back of the case.

The iPhone wallet case is certainly a well tread upon topic but here’s something that we feel is pretty innovative- the Push Case. Instead of a money clip type attachment or straps or a bulky leather wallet-type add-on, this case stores your credit cards and money in a closeable drawer. You push a button on the back and the storage tray pops out, then push it back in to secure your items. The advantage is that the case is totally smooth on the back and your id and cards are stored in a discrete yet stylish manner with quick easy access. Nice idea.
