Mega Man Mega Buster Replica: Start Charging Your Bank Account

Capcom already sells a plush replica of Mega Man’s Mega Buster. But if you want something more interactive, watch out for ThinkGeek’s officially licensed Mega Buster replica. You can wear it and trigger light effects as well as the blaster sound effects from the NES games.

The replica will have a trigger inside. Give it a quick pull and it will “fire” a normal shot. Hold the trigger down and the power meter lights will fill up, and you’ll hear the charging sound effect as well as the charged shot sound effect when you release the trigger.

Don’t worry lefties, ThinkGeek assures us that the replica is “ambi-blaster-ous” i.e. it will fit with either hand. The real question here is what “authentic Mega Man armor” even means.

The Mega Buster replica won’t be available until 12/15, but I wouldn’t be surprised if pre-orders begin way before that. Be sure to leave your email address on ThinkGeek if you want to find out when pre-orders begin.

Calling All Mega Fans: Mega Man LEGO Set Up For Voting on Cuusoo

Lego Megaman Cuuso

You’ve read the comics, watched the TV series, and played the video games. Now it’s time to play a different kind of Mega Man. He’s been around for ages and it’s about time he got his own LEGO set. He’s not quite there yet, though, because the Mega Man set designed by Alatariel is still up for voting on Cuusoo. Designs need to get at least 10,000 votes before LEGO will consider producing it–the keyword there being “consider,” since not all of the sets that reach the required number of votes are actually made.

Alatariel’s set includes most of the elements you know and love from the iconic franchise, include: Dr. Wily’s Castle, a playable stage inside the castle, Dr. Wily in his flying Capsule, famous nemeses including Sniper Joe and Metool, a set of power-ups, and of course, Mega Man himself and Rush.

Mega Man Hoodie Is Awesome And Incredibly Expensive

Mega Man Hoodie 1

Few things ever hit us in the nostalgia glands as hard as Mega Man does, and although this is the greatest hoodie we’ve ever seen, do you think it’s worth $200 USD?

The  Volante Design team have teamed up with Mega Man owners, Capcom, to produce what might be the greatest hoodie ever created, themed after Mega Man himself, and with versions for both guys and gals.

There is one catch, though, these won’t be produced at all unless they get a minimum of 100 pre-orders for the lady version, and 200 for the guys. And doing this pre-order would set you back 195.95 cents. Ouch.

If the “MegaJacket” manages to achieve the number of pre-orders (and don’t get us wrong, it might, because it’s incredible), it’ll be coming out for sale on July 23rd, 2014. Are you getting one?

Video Game Character Tombstones: Sad Spoilers

Etsy shop Chinook Crafts is a treasure trove of geeky trinkets. I was going to feature its Pokémon Kanto gym badges by way of GoNintendo when I spotted an unusual category in the shop’s list: tombstones.

But if we think about it it’s actually kind of surprising that we don’t see more of these. Video games are ripe with death after all, from the ones we don’t even think about…

…to the ones whose deaths are given and thus inconsequential.

video game character tombstones by chinook crafts 3 620x436magnify

There are also deaths that jump start a game…

…including ones that turned out to be the start of an alternate reality and an entire series of games.

And as in real life, there are deaths in games that we’ll never forget, the ones that will leave you reeling in shock and despair. Like, The Transformers animated movie level of shock and despair.

The tombstones cost $10 (USD) each plus a variable amount of sadness. Check out Chinook Crafts for more designs. You creep.

Mega Man Board Game: Bittersweet Offering

There’s a new Mega Man game! It’s a, uh, *cough* a board game. Wipe your tears, Blue Bomber faithful, board games can be a lot of fun! Plus Jasco Games’ officially licensed game will let you play not just as Rock, but as a Robot Master too! Yes! No? Oh come on. It’s all we have right now. Look at the bright side.

mega man board game 620x339magnify

Because the game is still not done, its rules (pdf) are still being tweaked as well, but I think I get the basic premise of the game. You and up to 3 other players are all Mega Man. The goal is to be the first Mega Man to beat Dr. Wily. Standing in your way are challenges strewn about the board, as well as the Robot Masters. The kicker here is that the players also control one Robot Master each. When you reach the “Boss Battle” stage of the board, you (as Mega Man) will fight the Robot Master of the player to your left.

Hold B to charge your Mega Browser, then let go and pledge at least $60 (USD) on Kickstarter to get the Mega Man Board Game as a reward. Or we can all just play Rayman Legends. Damn Capcom, what the hell happened?

Mega Man Bosses Bead Portraits: Rock’s Gallery

You don’t get to 10 Mega Man games without making a few enemies. 80 of them to be specific. Patrick Merrifield reminds us just how difficult the Blue Bomber’s life is with his massive masterpiece. Patrick made bead portraits of each of the Robot Masters that Rock faced in the classic Mega Man series.

Patrick said it took him over 90 hours and more than 67,000 beads to put the collection together. I don’t think I’ve ever arranged a thousand of anything. And yes, it is a collection of portraits, not one big wall, so you can split them however you want. You can’t buy them separately though. Here’s a closer look at one of the portraits.

Turn into Pay Man and buy the collection from Patrick’s Etsy shop for $1,000 (USD).

Custom Mega Man 2 25th Anniversary NES: Retro Master

The first Mega Man game celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, while its sequel is still “only” 24 years old. But it was Mega Man 2 that catapulted the Blue Bomber and his franchise to fame, and is widely considered to be one of the best videogames of all time. So I don’t think anyone would ridicule NES modders Platinum Fungi and Custom NES Guy for paying tribute to the legendary platformer one year in advance.

Platinum Fungi made the cutout backlit design, which features the eight Robot Masters from Mega Man 2, while Custom NES Guy did the slick paint job.

Cool Man. I’m not sure if Platinum Fungi is selling this particular console. You can hire him and Custom NES Guy for custom NES builds though, so maybe they’ll make another one for you.

If you’re looking to geek up your bathroom or kitchen why not take advantage of the fact that square tiles are perfect for creating mosaics with? UK based Topps Tiles came up with a few fresh ideas to turn your home into an 8-bit wonderland. Like the Pac-Man design above with the well-placed clock in the center. Or Mega Man:

That one looks a bit more complicated to create, being 16 bits and so many colors. But I could see it in a kid’s bathroom or mancave bathroom. Make it simpler with the oldest of the old school- Pong!

I like that design- it’s geeky but not in-your-face. Almost subtle. Lastly is the Space Invaders tile job:

Maybe I wouldn’t have placed that picture right over the design. Pretty cool tiling inspiration ideas there, you could take this idea and run with it- finding the perfect 8-bit retro game for your room design.

Check It Out: It’s Mega Meat!

Megaman Meat

The dude in charge of the meat department at the Uwajimaya supermarket in Seattle probably had too much time on his hands. It’s either that or he’s just a huge Mega Man fan because he molded, shaped, and formed the ground pork and beef into two well-known characters from the Mega Man franchise.

On the left is a fierce-looking porky version of Cut Man, while the right features Mega Man in all his beefy splendor. It’s pretty cool but gross in a raw-meat sort of way. Nonetheless, I’m sure many shoppers did a double and triple-take when they saw these trays on display at the store.
