Tatooine Sand Watches: Because a Sundial Won’t Work There

Own a piece of Star Wars history on your wrist with this beautiful watch. It contains sand from the Tunisian set where the Tatooine scenes were filmed.

The Tunisian sand is sealed inside the case and it even moves around as you move your wrist. Plus, the watch face looks pretty cool. The case is made of solid 316L medical-grade steel with Seiko-Epson quartz movements and leather bands. The funds raised will be used to make the watches, and will also help restore and preserve the crumbling sets in Tunisia. So it is a good geeky cause even aside from getting a cool watch. You see, some of the sets are at risk of being swallowed by sand dunes.

This Kickstarter is fully funded, but there is still time to pledge and get your own watch for just $77(USD). This second edition of watches will be the last, so get one while you can.

Angry Birds Star Wars Jenga Sets

This brand new game from Rovio is hitting it out of the park on all points- it’s got Angry Birds, it’s got Star Wars, it’s got Jenga. If this thing could cook dinner, I’d marry it. The game comes in three different versions: Death Star Game Angry Birds Star Wars Jenga Sets, Hoth Battle Game Angry Birds Star Wars Jenga Sets, and Tatooine Battle Game Angry Birds Star Wars Jenga Sets. Each game comes with Star Wars figures appropriate to that scene (ie Tatooine has a little Jabba the Hut) as well as a bird launcher based on a ship (X-Wing Fighter for the Death Star game).

The gameplay in these is not exactly like Jenga, since you will want to knock it down. Still fun though. The Death Star set is the biggest and comes with Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca birds that can be launched for a squawk attack on the pork side’s Darth Vader and 4 Stormtrooper pigs! Sweetness.

Miniature Star Wars Terrariums Land You on Tatooine, Endor, Dagobah, Where’s My Hoth Snowglobe?

Star Wars fans, here’s a fun accessory to place on your desktop or bookshelf. It’s a series of handmade terrariums, each depicting a scenic location from one of the Star Wars films.

They’re made by Tony Larson (aka ‘Megatone230′) of The Wonder Room, and you can choose from a scene with Yoda chilling out in a Dagobah moss garden, R2-D2 (or mini R2-D2) searching for Obi-Wan on Tatooine, or a cuddly Ewok getting ready to take down some speeder bikes on the forest planet of Endor.

I just want him to make me a tiny snowglobe with a scene of snowspeeder taking down an AT-AT.

Each one is lovingly handmade to order, and prices range from $95 to $105(USD) for the little dioramas. Be sure to check out the other scenes over on The Wonder Room’s Etsy shop too. The Ancient Goddess Ruins ($200) is pretty epic, and reminds me of God of War for some reason. I wonder why…

Star Wars Fans Recondition Luke Skywalker’s Home on Tatooine

attachment

Fortunately, the Star Wars fans that plan to breathe new life into the Lars homestead do not have to travel to a galaxy far, far away, since the saga was shot here, on Earth.

The fans came up with this initiative two years ago, but could not take action immediately because ...

Star Wars Fans Restore Luke Skywalker’s Tatooine Home

I want this in my backyard so bad I can barely stand it. Odds are you remember Luke Skywalker’s old and crumbling looking homestead from Tatooine from the original Star Wars, where he lived with Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. That movie set was actually constructed in the deserts of Tunisia. Once the filming was complete, the set was apparently abandoned and left to rot.

Recently, Star Wars fan Mark Dermul came along and decided to restore the ailing movie set to its original glory. The coolest part, and something I never knew about films, is that the set was located outside of a Tunisian village called Tataouine. See what George did there?

Dermul and some other fans set up a Facebook page and started collecting donations to repair the set. Within a year, 425 people had pledged enough money to raise $11,700. Dermul, author Terry Cooper and the team used the funds to restore the facility over six days in the sweltering desert. The team reinforced the outer layer of some of the set with wood and then reattached the props constructed by George Lucas and his team years ago. I’m honestly surprised a single piece of the set remains, had it been in place and easily accessible to geeks it would’ve been pillaged long ago.
