Razer’s limited edition Pikachu earbuds are awesome for all the right reasons. Not only are they an absolutely delightful looking pair of familiar yellow earbuds, they even push the limit by coming in a Pokéball shaped charging case – which is even more exceptional because it’s a ‘charging’ case and Pikachu’s an electric type Pokémon!

The adorable earbuds are essentially a limited variant of Razer’s Hammerhead earphones, but in yellow, and with a Pikachu graphic replacing the Razer triple-snake logo. The truly wireless earbuds dock magnetically into a Pokéball-shaped charging case, which may not be tiny enough to fit into your pocket, but which noob carries Pokéballs in their pockets? The earbud case has a tiny lanyard that’s perfect for strapping around your hand as you walk around and get jealous looks from fellow Pokémon lovers.

The earbuds provide 3 hours of playback time, and the spherical case supplies them with an additional 15 hours… you could say that your earphones are ‘resting’ within their Pokéball. The only bit of disappointing news is that the earbuds will be available only in China, via the Tmall e-commerce store starting 16th April.

The Tmall Genie projector and remote design is all about visual continuity

I don’t believe I’ve ever called a projector gorgeous, but with Tmall Genie’s smart projector, it may be a first. Bringing a fresh design language to the projector category, this portable projector comes in an eye-catching glossy lipstick red, with a relatively minimal form. The most clever detail, however, lies in the way the projector’s remote docks right into the front of the projector, achieving three things… A. the job of a lens cap, B. a great way to charge your remote when you’re not using it, and C. visual continuity that just looks and feels great!

Transparent suitcases are finally going mainstream!

We covered the Rimowa X Off White transparent suitcase earlier this year, exploring the pros (and maybe a few cons) of a suitcase that’s absolutely see-through. The idea of covering the Xiaomi 90 Points transparent suitcase (which honestly is quite a rip-off) is to address an aspect other than product design. It’s to address the mainstream-ification of this design, and how Xiaomi, a trend-setter in the east, could help make this trend more popular and accessible to the world.

Designed by 90 Points, a Xiaomi sub-brand, the suitcase comes with a complete transparent outer body molded in PolyCarbonate. With 360° wheels and a TSA lock, the suitcase has the makings of a nice, mid-range carry case. With a price of 599RMB ($86), the 90 Points suitcase (available exclusively on TMall) has a large competitive advantage over Rimowa’s $1,200 transparent suitcase, which makes a great ‘case’ for it among the masses, who’ll definitely be motivated to buy the unique looking piece of luggage. A transparent suitcase, although it really doesn’t scream privacy, is most certainly a much more uniquely visible item. Its transparent nature allows your belongings to be visible from the outside, making different from each and every suitcase, primarily because its belongings are different. It also lets you know if you’ve packed everything without having to open the case and rummage through your things!

OUYA Signs Deal with Alibaba, Moves into China

Rumor has it that the Chinese conglomerate has just invested $10 million so that its games library moves to the Alibaba’s set-top box.

While the investments hasn’t been confirmed (nor denied) by OUYA, the California-based console maker admitted that its game library will be available on Alibaba’s YunOS platform. In case you’re not familiar with the name, you should know that it is a modified version of Android that is (paradoxically, if I may say so) meant to compete against Google’s mobile OS in China. While at a later point OUYA’s patents will prove useful in Chinese smartphones, for the time being, it will be available on the Tmall set-top box.

OUYA’s streaming service is what must have caught Alibaba’s attention, since the game console is cited as capable to handle such titles as soccer game Winning Eleven 2014 and fighting game Street Fighter 4. Other than that, it seems like Alibaba is not interested in OUYA’s controller, and will provide its own for the set-top box.

“Markets, like China, without the baggage of the US console market, could be the game console leaders in ten years. That’s where OUYA wants to be,” mentioned OUYA CEO Julie Uhrman, thus emphasizing that the US market has its own importance. OUYA will continue to exist in the US, despite its ups and downs. The 2012 crowdfunding campaign proved a major success, having raised more than 9 times the funding goal, but things took a turn for the worse when the company failed to deliver the consoles to its backers on time. The next year wasn’t that bad for OUYA, as it was sold out on Amazon. In 2014, the company released the second version of the console with slightly better specs and a higher (and some think unjustified) price. Now it seems that OUYA is sailing to new shores, and that can only be good for the company.

This new move won’t really affect people outside of China, or not just yet. Knowing the huge number of potential customers in this country, the other console manufacturers should be scared. I’m not sure if YunOS has a great future ahead, though, but Android consoles will certainly become a thing in the not so distant future. OUYA was only the beginning of it all.
