Green USB power pack from the wall

It’s time for another new angle on the USB power-packing accessory universe, this time with one that stays in the wall socket and conserves energy. You plug this little nubbin in to the power socket, wait for it to pop up like a turkey, and grab some power. This accessory stops taking power from the socket once it’s charged up, allowing that power then to filter through its two USB ports to your smart devices.

Other than the power collecting abilities, this device isn’t all that unique. With the pop-out action, this device becomes indispensable. I’d certainly like to have a handful of these for heading out to a tech convention or even sitting around the apartment – wouldn’t you?

iPhone touchkeys become real

Designer Moon Myounghak has made a lovely effort in a very real way (conceptual on the verge of reality) in creating a case that allows the iPhone to become a touchkey phone. WIth the keys this case creates for the iPhone, you’ve got a very physical set of keys accented by a touchscreen that contains five icons across. In other words, this wouldn’t be allowed by Apple as it stands here, but with a hacked iPhone you’d have gold.

Have a peek at what this physical case with real physical buttons would bring you and your iPhone and let us know – would you do it? Do you desire the physical set of keys of yesteryear to keep the iPhone linked to the past? Or could you never, ever keep away from the full touchscreen experience?

Green Lantern channeled for bicycle security

If you equate cosmic superhero power with the right-now technology of Bluetooth, designer Hsu Wei-Che has the bike lock for you. Made specifically for short-term parking, this lock attaches to the spokes of your bicycle when you’re going to head into a convenience store (or whatever other short trip you’re on) and notifies you of movement via a fabulous green sensor ring. The power is yours!

Hsu Wei-Che wants to alleviate you of some of the stress that comes with worrying about your bike by making the process of locking it up not just easy, but entertaining as well. This product also works as a lamp when you’re not just using it for security, and the sensor ring you’ll be using will make you the belle of the ball at your local 7-11.

Crutch as a lamp held aloft

It would appear that the way to lead with light might soon be by way of crutch – at least that’s how the designers behind the Leader would have it. The full name of these devices is “Leader Outdoor Crutches” and their designers, Cathy Wen and Linxi Lee, have made it clear that there will be no more darkness on the trail as long as they’re at the head of the pack.

Leader Outdoor Crutches aim to not just allow you to make your way through the woods with that extra bit of push up on the stick, but with some much-needed illumination at night as well. Just pop in the lamp and you’ll be headed to your camp site in no time. This invention would certainly save us some stumble time heading up the stairs after some late-night laundry too, mind you – perhaps a home edition is in order!

Tron-inspired smartphone hits The Grid

Designer Wooseok Suh is coming on correct today with a lovely smartphone device by the name of “Another World”, made right out of the box to present an entirely new environment for you lovers of the unique. This smart device could be called a smartphone or it could simply be called an electronic touch device – it breaks barriers either way.

Have a peek at how this device not only shows off its abilities in such a simple way that we don’t even have to explain how it works, but also keeps a perfectly clean aesthetic for fashionability as well. The movie Tron comes to mind simply because of the black and transparent grid run through with glowing light lines – otherwise this lovely amalgamation of wonder is all from the mind of Suh.

Public bicycles made massively minimal

The folks at multidisciplinary office AND-RÉ and the city of Vilamoura worked to create the project you’re seeing here – a lovely public bicycle project! This project is just the newest of a set of collaborations the city has done with the design group known as AND-RÉ and aims to continue their forward-thinking philosophy of “humanization of urban space” – this “returning the city to [the] people.”

The aim of this project was to develop a bike system that encapsulated “truly democratic equipment … requiring a great accuracy in ergonomic study and in the visual/formal language in order to achieve a unisex non-discriminatory product.” The bike itself represents a “debugged” design, as they call it, bringing light and purity to the overall system. Vintage at the same time as it is modern, made to serve the function alone – transportation for the city.

Snowboard wrist armor delight

Designer Navik Lal presents a fabulous new look at the protection of the wrists of the hardcore snowboarder. This is Morph Armour, made to create a protective barrier around your wrist while you retain near-full mobility throughout your arms so you can continue to be the sports beast you know you can be. This solution takes on what Lal notes is one of the most common mishaps in the snowboarding world, making the 88% of the snowboarding population think twice about how much of a hinderance safety has to be.

Morph Armour is a wrist protection device – or pair of devices, if you’re wearing them on both arms, of course. With this armor you’ve got 2 splints with multiple segments joined by what Lal calls “living hinges.” This moving polyethylene splint is moulded to the contours of your arm for a personalized fit, with an 8 degree angle on the hinge point of 6 individual sections for an overall wrist movement range of a lovely 96 degrees.

Each of the units is affixed to your arm with an 8 point lace system so it’s not going to slip off while you’re burning up the slopes, and a removable neoprene insert works to give you extended comfort through cushioning. This unit is still currently in its conceptual phases but very well may be a real live product sooner than later!
