This House-Shaped Tent Is Also Couch and a Bed

The Campeggi Ca.Mia packs a bed into a compact bundle, allowing you to store it in a closet shelf for storage or pack it in a bag to take with you. However, it also inflates into couch with an integrated tent, so you can sleep in your own private space. Tent, house or bed, this is a versatile piece of portable furniture.

Designed by Denis Santachiara, the whole thing collapses down to the size of a small tote bag, making it easy to take this piece of furniture anywhere. That way you can always have an emergency bed if you need one.

It is also great for any guest room since it can act as a couch or a bed while saving space. Plus it is just plain fun.

Couchlet Puts USB Ports in Your (Couch) Crack

How many times have you been lounging on the couch and wanted to charge your gadgets at the same time. Sure, you could buy a really long USB extension cable, or you could go for the Couchlet.

couchlet_usb_couch_outlets_1zoom in

This odd, but useful invention wedges between the cushion and back to provide you with a pair of USB ports you can use while seated. It’s a completely simple, yet highly practical idea – assuming the USB ports don’t poke you in the butt.

Pledge at least $16(USD) over on Indiegogo to get your own USB Couchlet and a 6-foot USB cable. They’re offering discounts on multiple purchases as well. Of course, if you have a side table, you could always just pick up a USB hub and a long cable and not have to worry about sitting on your outlets.

I love how the 2K guy says “Hey kiddos” even though his games are rated M. But why are you still reading this? Get that camera and go pimp yourself for some gaudy man child gear! You have until 5/4/2015 to submit. Head to Borderlands‘ website for the rules and instructions.

Easy Office Soundproofing

The Pillow furniture series is focused on a necessity in the modern office space: acoustics and privacy. Upholstered soft panels are combined with functional elements to provide improved acoustics with less echo and more sound absorption thanks to high quality foam. Decorative and scalable, the dividers can be filled with shelves, a wardrobe, magazine holders planters and more. It’s a beautiful design that also neutralizes annoying office noise.

DIY Motorized Omnidirectional Robot Couch: I’d Buy That for a Dollar!

We’ve seen a couch on wheels before, but this one made by Engineering students in University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia can drive in any direction and has a Raspberry Pi for a brain.

motorized omnidirectional robot couch by Steph McArthur and Will Andrew 620x359magnify

Led by Steph McArthur and Will Andrew, the UNSW students built a custom steel chassis equipped with four independently controlled Mecanum wheels, which use multiple rollers instead of a single tire to achieve omnidirectional movement. The wheels are powered by electric scooter motors. The students use a gamepad (UNSW states that its an Xbox gamepad, but I’m pretty sure it’s from Logitech) to steer the couch while they chill on it.

There’s a slightly longer video of the couch in action at the UNSW Faculty of Engineering’s Facebook page. The students are constantly working on the couch, especially on its wheels. Andrew said that right now, “[i]f there’s different types of terrain under each wheel, or there’s more load on one wheel than the others, then the couch doesn’t drive as you intend it to.” They also want to add sensors and make the couch move autonomously. Now that would be a rockin’ chair.

DIY Motorized Couch: Ridin’ Lazy

Back in 2010 Nick Homer and his college buddy Stewart Clyde made headlines because of their silly invention: a remote-controlled motorized couch. Now Nick is working on a comprehensive guide for couch potatoes who have a very slight need for speed.

motorized couch by nick homer 620x391magnify

As with the original ride, Nick’s guide will consist of combining an electric wheelchair base with a loveseat. If you get both of those components used – and you should – the whole thing should cost you only about $150 (USD). Nick claims that his guide will have you napping in motion in just a few hours.

Lie down on your browser and head to Kickstarter. You only need to pledge $2 to gain access to Nick’s online guide, which will include videos, FAQs and recommendations for the supplies.
