High Tech Bling: Video Earrings with 2.2-Inch Screens

Earrings. People wear them to make a statement or to complete their outfits. Others purposely choose wacky pairs to grab people’s attentions, while others design their own to show off their creativity and individuality.

Adding yet another reason why people wear earrings is the team at MJ Mclaren with their Video Earrings. These high-tech accessories incorporate a 2.2-inch screen that can stream media and display slideshows. The earrings can be charged and loaded with files via USB.

MJ Mclaren has set up an Indiegogo project in order to raise funds to produce the Video Earrings. On the project page, they explain: “The Video Earrings can show videos as slide shows, screen savers, real homemade videos, family videos, music videos, advertisement videos, or professionally developed videos.”

They’re definitely not your typical earrings, that’s for sure. If you’re one of the early birds, you can make a pledge of at least $50 to get your own pair of 2GB earrings.

These days, they can put LEDs in pretty much anything, but I have to say that I didn’t think that stud earrings were big enough. I guess I was wrong, because these LED earrings will allow you to start flashing like a Christmas tree, no matter where you are.

Nothing says I love you like some winged Daleks dangling from her ears. Forget chocolates, forget flowers. What she really wants are these Dalek earrings from jewelry artist HokeyDonut.

These daleks may be hellbent on destroying the universe 364 days a year, but for Valentine’s Day they are simply angels. When the clock strikes midnight on February 15th though, they will be back to their old tricks – so be careful.

The plastic earrings are accented with 4mm bicone Swarovski crystals and measure about 2 3/4″ long, including the hooks. They are only $12(USD) for the pair, and they will melt her geek heart, not vaporize her body. Which is always a good thing when giving a gift. This beats flowers any day.

I always wonder what became of paddle controllers. You know, like the ones that you used to play the Atari 2600 with back in the day. There are certain types of games – especially paddle ball and driving games – that lend themselves well to the single-axis analog control these primitive input devices provided. Well even if you can’t play your PS3 or Xbox 360 with a paddle, you can still have paddle controllers in your life, albeit as jewelry, not to play games with.

These nifty little Atari 2600 paddle stud earrings were created by Catrina’s Toybox as a follow-up to her equally nifty Atari 2600 joystick earrings. These tiny paddles measure about 1cm in length, and are handmade from polymer clay and resin – along with a tiny Atari paddle sticker for added detail.

They’re also available as somewhat larger (1″ long) cufflinks, so guys and girls can both get in on the retro paddle action. I always wanted to play Super Breakout in formalwear, didn’t you?

Perhaps the niftiest thing about these mini paddle controllers is that they actually turn from side-to-side. You have to be careful with them and not spin them all the way around, as they are delicate. Not that I didn’t break one or two actual Atari 2600 paddle controllers in my time.

A while back I came across some cool Portal-inspired earrings, but they weren’t exactly the kind of thing you could wear out to a nice dinner. These, on the other hand, would look lovely no matter what the occasion.

These handmade sterling silver Portal earrings from jewelry artist Melissa Hamming show the familiar test subject symbol dude going in one of your ears and out the other. I bet that Cave Johnson’s assistant Caroline wore a pair of these before she was turned into GLaDOS (and then into a potato.)

Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Earrings Will Open Your Ears

The sonic screwdriver is the Doctor’s favorite tool and now you can wear one on each ear. They look pretty cool and stylish. The one drawback is that if you are going to be opening doors with these, you are going to have to put your ear to the lock and pray.

With sonic screwdrivers dangling from your ears, your ears are bound to be open all of the time, but your neck will hurt if you have to point them at various things the way the Doctor does. These are just $7.99(USD). Hopefully they won’t zap you crazy all day long.


Atari 2600 Joystick Earrings are a Joy to Wear

Gamer girls with a taste for retro consoles will get a tiny thrill from these handmade earrings, done up to look like miniature Atari 2600 joysticks. I always loved the firm, digital feeling of the old 2600 joystick – it worked great for arcade style games.

They’re made by Etsy seller Catrina’s Toybox, using polymer clay. She used a touch of paint to add the detailed directional markers, and even gave it that worn feel that used to always happen after your sweaty palms were resting on the joystick for marathon Pitfall sessions.

An Ear Within an Ear: Earception

We’ve all heard about the third eye; but have you ever heard of the third ear? And the fourth ear that follows? If you haven’t, then you’re about it. And let me just say, they’re probably not what you expected.

Ear EarringIt’s not some weird ability or anything. It’s basically a pair of earrings fashioned in the shape, color, and form of a human ear. They’re made from Super Sculpey clay attached to stainless steel earring studs.

These are the unique creations of London-based artist Percy Lau, who has put these quirky and somewhat creepy earrings up for sale on her Etsy shop. Aside from ears, she’s got all sorts of jewelry like necklaces and rings featuring ears other human body parts, like mouths and men’s wieners (for lack of a better word), up for grabs.
