Make Your Own Glowing Masking Tape Mummy Hands

Halloween is the perfect time for some scary and frightening DIY projects. If you are looking for a cool project this year, I would suggest these glowing masking tape mummy hands. They are easy to make and look pretty scary too.

All you need are some typical household items like a straw, scissors, masking tape, and a glow stick. The masking tape really makes it look like mummy wrap, especially when the hand glows. Pretty neat. These are going to look great on your lawn or in your home. They may even scare you.

Darth Vader Glow-in-the-Dark Electrocution T-Shirt

This Glow in the Darth T-Shirt is awesome. Watch Darth Vader get hit by Force lightning on the front of this black, 100% cotton shirt and marvel at the electrifying effect.

The lightning and Vader’s skull glow in the dark, making you a walking scene from Return of the Jedi whenever you wear this shirt. It’s intense and electrifying. Or as Darth Vader would say, “Impressive. Most impressive.”

Nuka-Cola Soda Bottles Glow in the Dark

Fans of the Fallout series will immediately recognize these bottles of Nuka-Cola’s glowing sodas, including Victory, Fusion Cola, Quantum and Quartz. In Fallout 3, the drinks have a variety of effects on your health and abilities, while these ones just glow.

Made by Etsy seller M.E.M. Props, each of these bottles is loaded with a phosphorescent fluid which charges up when placed in the light for 20 to 30 minutes. Sadly, you can’t drink the liquid inside, but that would be cool if the guys at Coke or Pepsi would come up with a glow-in-the-dark soda.

You can grab a bottle of glowing soda for $35(USD), or a set of four for $120 over on M.E.M. Props’ Etsy shop. If you want to take a shot at making your own light-up Nuka-Cola Quantum, there’s a DIY version on Instructables, but it uses an LED for illumination – which is cheating if you ask me. On the other hand, you can actually drink the Instructables recipe. On the flip side, you can’t get rot your teeth with or get addicted to the glowing version.

Friday the 13th NES Jason Mask: Memento Horrid

We now know Atlus as one of the last bastions of JRPGs, but it also made one of the worst games of all time: Friday the 13th for NES. Seriously, the only good thing I can say about the game is that it led to one of Angry Video Game Nerd’s funniest episodes. Toymaker NECA tips its hat to one of video gaming’s lowest moments with this glow-in-the-dark replica of series villain Jason Voorhees’ hockey mask.

The mask looks legitimately creepy and you can wear it or hang it on the wall, none of which can be said about the game. NECA says the mask will come in a “unique, game-inspired packaging”, which should make your interaction with the delivery guy less awkward.

Glow in the Dark Lawn Darts

I don’t know who came up with the idea to make throwing sharp pointed projectiles into a lawn game but I’m guessing danger was their middle name. Then again, maybe bars aren’t the best place for real darts either. No matter, traditional lawn darts are illegal in the US but now there’s safer alternatives like these Triumph Sports Glow Backyard Darts. Glow in the Dark Lawn Darts They’re so safe you can play in the dark. Of course the glowing helps with that.

Glowing Sand Art iPhone Case: Like a Radioactive Beach in Your Pocket

Are you a fidgeter? Then you need something that can occupy your time whenever you’d like. Perhaps a new iPhone case will do the trick. But how can an iPhone case keep your wandering mind busy? Simple – fill it with glowing sand and you’ll be playing with this thing for hours on end.

This unusual iPhone 5/5S case is filled with sand and bubbly fluid which create mesmerizing patterns when you tilt it. The sand also glows in the dark, or if you happen to have any black lights around, it gets really bright.

Since the fluid inside is somewhat viscous, the sand art flows slowly and smoothly as shown in the video below:

You can grab the Glow in the Dark Sand Art iPhone Case from Gadgets & Gear for $24.95(USD).

Glow-in-the-Dark Highway Becomes Reality

If you tend to drive at night, you know that it can get dangerous on roads without lighting. That’s one of the reasons why some engineers in the Netherlands decided to make their highways glow in the dark.

glow in the dark roadmagnify

It was first suggested by Studio Roosegard back in 2012, and it was conceived to make roads safer as well as cut down on the amount of electricity needed to maintain the lighting on long stretches of highway. To this end, the N329 highway in Oss now has a 500 meter-long (~1640 foot) stretch which has glow-in-the-dark road markings. To pull off the trick, a photoluminescent powder was integrated into the road marking paint, and the lines charge up from sunlight captured during the daytime.

I have one concern though – how long will this paint last? It’s a known fact that paint on roads needs to be reapplied every few years.

DIY Luminous Bulb: (Glow in the) Dark Bulb

Korean DIY site Hobby:Design has a neat idea for a light bulb that doesn’t need electricity or electronics to work. The not so secret ingredient is of course glow in the dark pigment. Leave it exposed to bright light during the day and you get soft lighting at night. You can’t turn it off though.

luminous glow in the dark bulb by hobby design 620x310magnify

Hobby:Design made the luminous bulbs by first making a cast using an actual light bulb. Then they mixed silicone with luminous pigment and poured the resulting mixture into the cast to get a bulb-shaped replica that glows in the dark. To complete the simile and make it easier to hang the bulb, they screwed the replicas into bulb sockets.
