US proposes a phone ‘driver mode’ to reduce in-car distractions

Smartphones already have car-optimized interfaces like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and you'll occasionally see safety measures that shut off features (and enable others) while you're driving. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administ...

Guy Proposes via Mario Maker, His Princess Was Not in Another Castle

Ever since Mario Maker arrived, Nintendo fans have been making all kinds of cool Mario levels. Most of them are just crazy levels that are super hard to complete. The most challenging and nail biting level of them all? The marriage proposal level.

Check out this video from Geekologie reader Shane, who proposes to his girlfriend Pam with a special Mario Maker level he built.

It starts out normally enough, but as she gets to the end of the level, the bricks and blocks spell out “Pam Will You Marry Me?” Now that’s how a geek proposes. Pam gets pretty excited and emotional and of course she says “yes.” So as it turns out, his princess was not in another castle.

Congratulations to the happy couple. That is putting Mario Maker to good use. If you want to marry a woman named Pam, the level code is 7A61-0000-0245-8DE8.

Guy Proposes with a Custom TARDIS

The two most powerful forces in the universe are love and Doctor Who. So when it comes to geeky wedding proposals, if you don’t involve Doctor Who you are doing it wrong.

This guy gets it all right. Redditor Muffinman5423 not only built a TARDIS, but he put the proposal on the TARDIS itself and then gave his fiancé a key to the TARDIS along with the ring. That is a classy proposal right there. You might even say timeless. It tugs at my Hartnell strings.

When they are expecting their first child, I bet they build a robot kid with a gas mask to announce it to everyone by asking, Are you my mummy?”

FTL Marriage Proposal: Faster Than Love

The only thing that occurs in FTL: Faster Than Light more often than branching dialogues is agonizing defeat. So credit Redditor oft_wears_hats for using the game to propose. He made a custom patch for the game and applied it on his girlfriend’s copy while she was taking a bath. Here’s the first option that appears in oft_wears_hats’ patch:

Picking the first option – which was what oft_wears_hats’ girlfriend did – yields the proposal itself:

Fortunately, she said yes. However, if there’s one thing that FTL teaches us it’s to be prepared for unforeseen events. So oft_wears_hats made additional dialogue options in the event that his girlfriend picked no:

You can check out all of the dialogue options on oft_wears_hats’ Imgur album. Congrats guys! May your shields always be up and your clones be healthy.

Predator Proposes to Girlfriend

So a Predator has been spotted proposing to his human girlfriend. He was backed up by his friends: a Stormtrooper, Starcraft medic and Bumblebee. Yeah this kind of stuff happens everyday. But wait, he’s doing it all wrong.

I thought Predators proposed by ripping the spines from their prey so that they can’t get away. That’s also why no one ever says no to a Predator proposal. I don’t know. I know that Predators love their trophies, I’ve just never seen one get down on his knee before to get one.

Zhao Ming is the lucky guy who did the proposing. This almost makes me want a new superhero team with Predator, Bumblebee and that Starcraft medic. Oh yeah. Vader is there too, wearing some sort of Imperial diaper tech thing. Check out more pics of the craziness at the link.

Guy Builds Three-Story Optimus Prime to Propose to Girlfriend

Most guys just get flowers, maybe some chocolates, get down on one knee, and pop the question. On the other hand, building a giant Transformers replica tops everything else that you can do. One man in China did just that.

Outdoing all other men, he constructed this 26-foot-tall model of Optimus Prime. It took him about 10 months to build it, all in the hopes that his girlfriend would say “yes.” This machine took 400 drawings, 40,000 rivets and nearly $10,000 worth of stainless steel and iron. There’s no way she could say no after this right?

Well, the news story doesn’t say what her answer was, but I’m guessing the answer was yes based on this image. This is how you get the girl and a cool statue at the same time.

She must be some catch for a guy to go through all this trouble. More than meets the eye.
