Magnetic Nail Holder Protects Your Fingers

How many times have you been hammering a nail into a piece of wood, only to miss and smack your finger? The pain from this action is the worst. It’s right up there with stepping on LEGO pieces. And if you hit your fingernail, it will probably turn black and fall off. Nasty. Well, this simple device will protect your fingers when hammering nails.

The Safety Nailer is a magnetic nail holder that holds the target nail and protects your fingers from the hammer at the same time. It’s made of impact resistant ABS plastic, and you wear it around your fingers using elastic bands. It will shield your fingers from the wrath of the hammer, while neodymium magnets make sure that the nail stays where it should. It has three different size nail holes.

As an added bonus, it’s designed to keep the nail straight so that it never gets bent due to the wrong angle of impact. This is a handy tool for anyone who is prone to hammering their own digits. It even works as a starter for screws so that’s another reason to give it a go. It costs just $9.95 over on The Grommet. Your fingers will thank you.

AutoAuto All-In-One Tool Makes Changing Tires Easy

Changing your car’s tires is a lengthier process than it should be. You need several tools with you, and many people may not have them all handy. That’s why the AutoAuto car tool looks like a more efficient way of doing things. The tool has an all-in-one design that’s supposed to make changing tires faster.

This all-in-one gadget can loosen the lug nuts, crank up your jack, and air up your tire once mounted. It features an automated design for those of us who aren’t used to doing the job. It can be easily used by even the most inexperienced mechanic, without having to head to the shop and be charged way too much.

It is also compact enough to be stored anywhere. Changing a tire has never been easier. This tool will certainly shave some time off the process and allow those who aren’t so good at it to do it more easily. The AutoAuto car tool starts at about $299, and is currently raising production funds over on Kickstarter. If it does everything it’s supposed to as efficiently as claimed, it could be worth the asking price.

HRP-5P Humanoid Robot Now Has Screwdriver Capabilities

We haven’t heard anything about AIST Japan’s HRP humanoid robot line for a while. The new version, the very industrial-looking HRP-5P has some cool skills. It looks a lot like Boston Dynamics’ ATLAS, which sports a similar framework body. That’s good for us humans, because if we need to kill it, all of its sensors, motors, and electronics are exposed. That’s what I call forward thinking.

This version of the robot has some impressive tricks up its robo-sleeves. The ‘bot can walk over to a table, pick up a piece of drywall, and screw it to the wall thanks to its built-in electric screwdriver. The demo video below is basically the company saying, “Hello contractors. You will soon be out of business once our robot is mass produced, and doing a bunch of Bob Villa work inside homes.”

The robot weighs about 222-pounds, which is light enough to work in environments designed for humans to navigate without special accommodations needed for the robot’s heft. And hey, at least if this robot is fixing stuff in my house, I’m not likely to see his butt-crack as he’s bending over and fixing a pipe. Seriously, why don’t those guys cover up?

Measuring for Dummies (AKA All Of Us)

There are two types of people: those who couldn’t measure anything to save their life… and those who pretend they can! For all of us, there’s Moasure ONE – a handy device that takes the guesswork out of determining volume, area, circumference, height, angle, and level.

It utilizes powerful motion-sensing tech (the same used in guided rocket systems!) to gain measurements. Unlike other devices that use cameras or lasers, users don’t have to worry about light interference. Not only for linear lengths, you can quickly determine the size of 3D objects like packages and irregular lines simply by moving it. Better yet, it syncs with your smartphone so all your readings are automatically saved. Beats the hell out of tape, pencils, and paper!

What is Motion Measuring?

Motion measuring is the technology used in rocket guidance systems to keep track of movement in 3D space. Moasure® uses this same technology to take and calculate precise measurements.

moasure_motion_measure_tool_04

Using accelerometers, gyros, and magnetometers, Moasure® ONE™ plots its three-dimensional position in any space to measure distance, angle, level, and much more.

It doesn’t matter if there are obstacles like furniture or walls in the way. Hold a Moasure® device against any wall and measure the length of the room, the house, or even the whole plot just by walking and tapping the device, to measurements of 1000ft (300m) and over.

Other measuring tools fail when there’s too much light, too little light, or if space restricts them.

This Hammer Dispenses Nails: Nailed It!

I love any tool that makes projects around the house easier. I mean, having a robot to do all of my projects would be best, but that isn’t happening anytime soon. Besides, you can’t trust a robot with a hammer. But things like this innovative hammer will make life easier.

Designer Michael Young developed this hammer that’s capable of dispensing its own nails – probably because he also has no hammer robot. It dispenses collated framing nails as you need them. This tool should save you a lot of time and energy while doing your work. You just load the nail cartridge in and start hammering. When you need it to dispense a nail, just tap the side of the hammer against a hard surface to set the mechanism, then tap the hammerhead where you want the nail, then drive it in.

It’s a pretty brilliant design, and I can’t wait to buy this one when it hits the market. It might help people to not whack their thumbs when they set nails as well. That happens to me all of the time. Of course, I like to get hammered when hammering, which probably doesn’t help. I guess I thought that was what MC Hammer meant when he said “hammer time.”
