These Robotic Beds Carry You Everywhere

Life can be hectic and stressful. Some days you don’t want to get out of bed. If only we could stay in bed and still go everywhere we need to go. Well that dream has come true thanks to artist Carsten Holler.

two_roaming_beds_1zoom in

For his “Decision” exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in London, he created this interactive work called Two Roaming Beds. These beds are robots that automatically carry museum visitors around the exhibition while they sleep. Maybe our future is just like this. A world where robots just whisk us from one place to another. All we have to do is get fat and lazy – which will break our robots and leave us stranded.

Obviously we don’t need to get fit and active. We are just going to need stronger robots. Our future is looking kind of sad guys.

The other cool part beside looking like your honey shrunk your kids in a fast food restaurant is that the “fries’ actually come out of the carton and serve as long pillows. Why would you need some many pillows? For a french fry pillow fort, obviously. There can be no other reason. Of course it’s really just a french fry headboard, to get the complete meal you’d best pair this up with a hamburger bed. (via foodiggity)

Make Your Own Jeep Bed

jeep bed Make Your Own Jeep Bed
Forget the car bed of your youth, today’s kids want something more extreme, more awesome. Like a Jeep! And you can make one too, if you’re a bit handy. Appropriately named Etsy seller “Jeepbed” sells the plans so DIY’ers can be the coolest Dad (or Mom) on the block. Oh yeah, the kid will be cool too. But kudos to the parent, really.
jeep bed side Make Your Own Jeep Bed
The plans cost $29 and you’ll need another $250 or so in materials to make the bed but it’s totally worth it. Kids can outfit their room with jungle plants and dinosaurs and pretend they’re in Jurassic Park. Well at least that’s what I would do, I don’t know if kids today are even familiar with that movie. Really showing my age here I guess? At least I didn’t say Mash. Anywho, here’s a sample page from the plans:

Attention Ikea: make your instructions like this! I always end up with extra parts when I assemble Ikea furniture, what’s up with that? Also a sore wrist from using that little metal tool to put everything together. And a headache. But back to the Jeep Bed, it’s cool and I want one. For me. (h/t tiwib)

DIY Book Headboard

diy book headboard DIY Book Headboard
Like reading in bed? Book lover? Why not make a headboard from books? This DIY project is actually extremely simple to do. You’ll need a big piece of plywood to serve as the base. Gather up some old books from a book sale or garage sale or your basement or wherever you’d like. Hot tip: use actual books with paper, not Kindle books. Layout the books how you’d like. Then it’s hammer time:

Just nail them in, prop up the headboard and you’ve got a whimsical piece of smart furniture for your bedroom. You could even use this design as a wall decoration for a library or other room, it doesn’t have to be a headboard. (via design every day)

AeroBed PakMat Sleep System Is Actually Practical

It’s a problem when the things you buy that are supposed to make your life better end up doing the opposite because of crappy design. Take inflatable mattresses. Their reason for existing is to conveniently offer you some sleeping space when there is normally none available. But the price you pay for this “convenience” is that you have to wrestle the thing afterwards, trying to fold it up to store it somewhere, along with the unseemly and bulky pump that likely came with it. The AeroBed PakMat Sleep System however rolls right up and fits in a plastic container… that also happens to be the pump used to inflate it! It’s a simple solution to not such a huge problem (keeping it real, here), but there you have it. It’s $97.
