SNES Controller Coffee Table: Get Your Feet of My Gamepad!

I’ve already seen several coffee tables that look like a giant NES controller, but this is the first time I’ve seen one modeled after an SNES controller. Perhaps it’s that the Super Nintendo’s controller isn’t as iconic, but it still makes for a pretty awesome conversation piece.

This Super Nintendo controller table was designed by Charles Lushear of Bohemian Workbench, and it looks like a dead ringer for the original SNES gamepad, complete with purpley-blue buttons. The table is handcrafted from wood and can be ordered in natural wood for $2,300(USD) or fully painted for $2,800. It should be noted that the image here is of a miniature model of the table, and Charles is waiting for a buyer before he builds one. But I’m confident he’s up to the task, as he’s one of the guys who built the original NES coffee tables.

Charles will also consider building a functional version of the table with a full SNES built in, should you be interested.

Watch Every Nintendo and Super Nintendo Game Title Screen (in 12 Hours)

Have you played every Nintendo and Super Nintendo game that ever was? Are you sure? Do you have a life? Well, you can check out these two videos which feature every title screen for every game made for the Nintendo and Super Nintendo and use them as a visual checklist if you want.

Each title is included in alphabetical order. The video for the NES is three hours-long, while the Super Nintendo one is a whopping nine hours-long. With that kind of a time commitment, you might be better off just playing the games. However, it is a nice walk down memory lane.

Do you recognize them all? Sadly, I remember most of them. I must have spent years worth of time playing these games, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Gaming was amazing in those days.

All Game for Easter: Super Mario Nintendo Easter Eggs

Nintendo Mario Easter Eggs

Easter is fast approaching. Religious significance aside, it’s time to break out your brushes and pots of paint once more because it’s time to design those Easter eggs! Instructables user Imnopeas got a headstart on everyone else by doing her eggs early this year for her son, and they turned out great. I think it’s safe to assume that her kid’s a gamer from the looks of these eggs.

In case you’re out of ideas and want to copy her idea, you’re in luck because she’s shared the details of the project on Instructables.

Emergency Portable SNES: Survive the Apocalypse with Super Mario World

You have to be prepared for disasters – whether it is a hurricane, a tornado, a zombie apocalypse, whatever. The end result could be that you could be without power. Forget food and water and blankets. You need to be ready to be able to play some classic Nintendo while you wait to be rescued.

Redditor robotairz has you covered. He has created a portable set-up that you can build yourself. This shock-proof yellow Pelican 1300 case is loaded with an SNES console, controllers, and games. It has everything two players need to keep themselves entertained for hours while civilization crumbles around them. It runs on batteries and even has a built in charger and LCD screen.

It cost about $425 to build, but being able to play Donkey Kong Country is priceless.

SNES Controller Cake Makes Button-Mashing Messy

Ah, the old SNES controller. How many hours have you spent mashing buttons and entering cheat codes on this controller? Me, I can’t even begin to count them. Now you can have your controller and eat it too, with this awesomely geeky SNES Controller cake.

It’s shockingly accurate too. You could play some serious Donkey Kong Country with this thing as long as you don’t mind a huge mess all over your hands and table. I call the D-pad, because D stands for “delicious.” Those mushrooms look pretty tasty too. I hear they make you grow.

So if we just had a second controller cake we could have a two player cake-eating contest. But as is often the case, some of the best games are single-player only, and I wouldn’t mind eating this thing alone.

SNES-001 Advance gives two retro gamers a screen to play, guarantees no fights for TV time (video)

SNES001 Advance gives two retro gamers a screen to play, guarantees no fights for TV time video

There's been no shortage of SNES mods with built-in screens. They almost always tend to overlook one fundamental problem, however: with only one screen, gamers have to either share one tiny LCD or play solo, and neither option will make that Street Fighter II nostalgia trip a pleasant one. Frequent console modder Downing has offered a fix with a key trade-off. Although his Super Famicom-like SNES-001 Advance is decidedly non-portable, each gamepad has its own LCD to show what would normally go to one screen, even with audio. Both controllers are custom-molded creations that still plug in the old-fashioned, wired way. Downing certainly isn't hoarding his creation, despite it being one of a kind. An auction for the console (with a $500 buy-now price) is still well underway as of this writing, making sure that at least two Double Dragon fans will be happy without cutting into their less sentimental roommate's Netflix marathon.

Wireless Super Nintendo Controller Mod, Old School Meets New School

Sure, we are all used to playing video games with wireless controllers today, but back in the day you were forced to sit right in front of your console as if you yourself were attached to it, thanks to those pesky wires. Thanks to a simple mod, you no longer have to play games on your SNES as if you were in the dark ages.

Okay, simple is a relative term. Sure, it requires some basic modding skills, but it shouldn’t be too difficult. You’ll need to do a lot of fitting, wiring, and soldering work on your controller to get all the components to fit inside. You’ll be cramming in a power switch, emitter, and an LED power indicator.

If you play with your vintage console a lot, this should be well worth it so that you can gain some freedom. Check out more pics of this build over on imgur, and schematics which should work for the SNES, NES, N64 and SEGA Saturn at this link.
