NASA Showcases Buzz Lightyear-Inspired Spacesuit
There’s no denying that NASA’s spacesuits needed a modern touch, but their newest model resembles the one worn by Buzz Lightyear in Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story more than anyone would have hoped.
With the Mayan apocalypse upon us, the space seemed the only solution the humankind had been left with. The apocalypse ...

NASA Z-1 Spacesuit Testing Completed: To Infinity and Beyond!
If you are a space geek, you might remember last summer when we mentioned that NASA was testing out a prototype spacesuit that looked a lot like Buzz Lightyear’s outfit. The spacesuit has a large dome, humped back, and fluorescent green accents. It also reminds me more than a little of a Big Daddy from BioShock. If only it had a giant drill for a hand.
NASA has now announced that it has completed testing on the prototype spacesuit and the space agency is expected to transition to testing the next version, the Z-2 soon. NASA hopes to have the Z-3 version of its new suit working with astronauts on the ISS by 2017. The Z-1 has ball bearing joints giving astronauts a much greater freedom of movement than existing spacesuits offer.
The key feature you have likely noticed is the large oval-shaped port on the back of the suit. That large port makes it much easier and quicker for astronauts to get into and out of the spacesuit. The coolest thing about it is that the port also allows astronauts to dock their spacesuits directly to the outside of spacecraft eliminating the need for an airlock.

Toy Story 2 Once Deleted by Accident (and Again Because It Sucked)
Anyone who uses a computer long enough eventually deletes a file by mistake they really wanted to keep. If you ever had this happen at work on a corporate network things get ugly really quick. I can only imagine when Pixar was working on Toy Story 2 and a bunch of the files were accidentally deleted, sphincter tone went up greatly within the studio.
Apparently, someone mistakenly ran a command on the company server to delete all files in a directory and subdirectory. The catch was the command was executed in the main root directory for Toy Story 2. Pixar then found out its backups were incomplete leaving it with months and many, many hours worth of lost content. Luckily, a worker who worked from home had more recent copy of the film stored locally on her computer. The result was a loss of some data but nothing as catastrophic as originally thought.
The Pixar team is able to look back at the story with a sense of humor in the short animated clip below:
Ironically, once the film was recovered and nearly complete, Pixar decided they didn’t like how it turned out, and eventually reshot much of the film with just months before its theatrical release.
