Eclectical Engineering is a new website where tinkerers David and Ryan showcase their bizarre contraptions. They launched their site by making a pneumatic PVC cannon that can launch a variety of small objects.

But the cannon is just half of their debut project. The other half is a 3D-printed spring-loaded missile housing for GoPro’s smallest camera, the Hero 4 Session. Skip to 2:47 in the video below to see the missile’s point of view.

Head to Eclectical Engineering for more details on the cannon. As of this writing they haven’t shared the missile’s 3D files, so you’ll just have to keep an eye on the site’s downloads section.

Dumpling Cannon Preps, Cooks and Shoots Dumplings in an Instant

Japanese mobile phone operator DOCOMO knows how to effectively advertise the speed of their 4G LTE network. To do so, they created this cannon that not only shoots the ingredients for dumplings, but it preps and cooks the tasty treat in just a few seconds. Pretty crazy, but it works.

It can only prepare one dumpling, before having to reload though. Oh well, a good dumpling takes time I guess. Hopefully it doesn’t taste like catcher’s mitt either.

Now if they can just put these in restaurants and let people make them for themselves, they will be printing money. Making food with cannons may be the next big thing.

JAXA Test Fires Space Cannon It Plans on Firing at Asteroid

The Japanese space agency known as JAXA has announced that it has conducted a test of its space cannon that will be used to remotely fire a 4-pound metal projectile into the surface of an asteroid. The space cannon will eventually be mounted inside the Hayabusa-2 space probe that’s scheduled to take off in 2014.

The space probe will eventually rendezvous with an asteroid called 1999JU3 that is in orbit between Earth and Mars. That rendezvous is expected to happen in 2018. Once the space probe gets close enough to the asteroid, the cannon will detach and remotely fire its projectile into the surface of the asteroid.

The goal is not to destroy the asteroid, but to create a small crater that the probe can land beside and then deploy a small Rover to gather samples. The samples will then be carried back to Earth and are expected to return in 2020. The Japanese space agency wants to create the small crater to expose new asteroid material that hasn’t been affected by space weather and heat.
