This skylight-enabled litter box doubles up as furniture to please cats and their owners

Chris Granneberg designed an enclosed litter box, available for purchase through Cat Person, that’s built to please cats and their owners.

While enclosed litter boxes are great for cat owners, cats seem to have some trouble getting used to them. Cats are temperamental creatures and that means their litter boxes have to fit the bill. For cats to feel comfortable enough to use their littler box, it has to accommodate different needs.

There has to be enough headroom for cats to be able to sit down and turn around easily, there should also be a means for light to enter so cats aren’t going in the dark, and airflow is a must to ventilate the inside of enclosed litter boxes. Cat Person, a lifestyle brand for cats and their owners, recently teamed up with Chris Granneberg, an industrial designer, to develop an enclosed litter box that’s built to please booths cats and their owners.

With Cat Person, Granneberg set out to design a litter box that appears like a piece of furniture to blend in with other interior design elements. To achieve this, Granneberg outfitted the Cat Person litter box with a wooden top lid that gives it the same appeal as a small side table. Ensuring casts enjoy enough airflow and light while taking care of business, Granneberg punctuated the wooden top lid with circular cutouts, creating a ventilated and well-lit interior space.

Granneberg also designed the litter box with larger-than-average dimensions to allow bigger cats to have enough room to sit and turn around with comfort. An ergonomic and durable scooper accompanies the litter box that comes with a handy storing mechanism to avoid the eyesore of litter dropping to the floor. Joining forces with Cat Person, this collaboration marks another step toward Cat Person’s commitment “to make life with cats even more awesome,” through whole cat care.

The built-in scooper holder solves the issue of litter dropping to the floor.

The entrance is big enough even for larger cats to move in and out of with ease.

This power-packed workstation is an iMac knockoff for Windows users

The sleekly designed iMac is a classy desktop computer boasting security that is far superior to a Windows PC. Still, it has certain loopholes such as high price, limited upgradability, and software restrictions. That said, Windows-based workstations have also made the wiser move towards a slimmer profile. Rather than expanding in size horizontally won’t it be great if a cool-looking workstation is there which makes use of the vertical space?

Designer: Chris Granneberg

Meet the WS1 Workstation concept designed by industrial design expert Chris Granneberg. This desktop inspired by the Sonos’ unique form is a power-packed computer to run software applications like SolidWorks, KeyShot, or the odd gaming session on the weekends. Just like an all-in-one iMac workstation, this Windows 11 PC has a very clean geometry and cool military green color, The 27-inch monitor is positioned adjacent to the rig holding the powerful hardware inside and the ports are placed to the side. The idea of a peppy desktop is something akin to the Xbox S-inspired all-in-one mini Windows PC.

The WS1 Workstation has a bit bigger volume than the one designed by New Land Design, but that’s understandable because of the high-end graphics card, cooling system and other components. The distance between them has to be optimal for enhanced cooling and performance – so a designer, digital artist or gamer won’t have any complaints about the slightly beefy proportions on the backside. The all-in-one PC has a height-adjustable screen to get just the right ergonomic as well as eye comfort for stress-free working for long hours too. The designer promises to add more ports and connectivity options to the PC in future iterations. Personally, I would like to see someone design such a PC with more color options and a slightly slimmer profile (if that’s possible with high-end hardware) to spice things up and take the challenge head on to Apple!

These cardboard shipping containers transform into castles to serve your cats better!

Cats are described as being a lot of things: catty, being one of them, low maintenance, is another. Cats generally take care of their own and have more fun exploring than playing tug-of-war. While cats get along just fine without the frills of marketing or zany toys from the canine aisle, Cat Person, a direct-to-consumer cat lifestyle brand aims to create solutions that improve the quality of their life and bring some curated games of curiosity to the cat’s world of crunchy paper bags and light-up laser toys.

Cat Person provides ‘whole cat care,’ as they call it, which means they’ve considered everything, even giving the shipping containers a second purpose. The team at Cat Person knows that your cat will inevitably find its way to a cardboard box in the recycling corner, so they’ve made their shipping containers convertible into feline-friendly toys. Cat Person looked to industrial design to make further use of cardboard boxes and found transformation possible in corrugated cardboard and seams. Chris Granneberg, a California-based industrial designer, collaborated with Cat Person to seamlessly turn Cat Person’s cardboard shipping boxes into playhouses fit for felines. Since Cat Person is all about strengthening the bond between cat and person, Granneberg knew he had to design the boxes in such a way that fully embraced that bond. Granneberg constructed a second life for Cat Person’s shipping boxes by implementing a similar building method to that of cardboard castles and pop-up storybooks.

The external shape of Cat Person’s shipping boxes was maintained by taking advantage of all the interior space. Granneberg designed three shipping containers for Cat Person, each forming different structures. The first, which contains initial orders for Cat Person customers, is the trial shipper and that transforms into the Paw Puzzler, a custom mailer box with a perforated corrugate tray that transforms into a shorter box dotted with holes large enough for a toy ball and your cat’s paw. The second shipping container is fitted to ship Cat Person’s most frequently bought store items, reshapes into the Cat Chalet, similar to a cardboard castle formation, with elongated dust flaps that nest together to become a peaked roof. The last shipping container is sized for the larger orders and converts into a Cat Condo much like the Cat Chalet, except the Condo’s elongated dust flaps are used to bend and separate the box into two rooms for cats to crawl between.

The creatives at Cat Person reached out to Granneberg in order to ensure that each box was given the proper attention and care needed to turn them into sustainable playgrounds for cats. By giving the shipping containers dual-purpose, Cat Person and Granneberg gave the common cardboard box a second life. If I know anything about cats though, my guess is that these cardboard castles might take on a third life in the form of scratching posts and chew toys, but as long as it’s not the couch.

A New Era of 3D Printed Lighting

balloon_01

Like the name suggests, the Balloon lamp is reminiscent of “balloons” from a different era. Its interesting form is akin to that of Chinese fire lanterns or even hot air balloons. As sculptural as it is functional, it’s a beautiful example of what can be done with Gantri’s Table Lights Product System, which provides a standard set of components, resources and toolkit to help designers develop high-quality products easily. The body of the product is constructed at Gantri using 3D printing technologies and then carefully hand-finished by local craftsmen to achieve a smooth luxurious finish. Designer Chris Granneberg thinks it looks right at home amongst woody interiors… and we couldn’t agree more!
