Amazon’s Alexa assistant is coming to LG refrigerators

Last year, LG brought a refrigerator to CES that ran Windows 10, showing the a world a device that could keep food cold and play minesweeper. This year, it's taking the concept one step further -- introducing a new screen-adorned InstaView Door-In-Do...

Free Your Fridge

fridset_00

We are constantly hiding our ugly appliances, putting them behind doors or masking them as regular cabinets. It’s pure madness, really. A select few fridges, however, are so aesthetically appealing you’d be proud to have them on display in your kitchen. So long as your style is ultramodern, FRIDSET just might be one you’d want as-is.

Its sleek. Like, way sleek. It’s also slightly odd… perhaps even severe. The cooling unit is located above a completely open space intended to be used for storage… or simply displaying something cool. This means easy access for users who no longer have to bend down to reach items. In a cool combination of metal and glass, its stark aesthetic will be right at home as a modern kitchen highlight you’ll be happy to show off.

#notabluetoothspeaker

ooino_fridge_1

Don’t be surprised if you have a group of friends over and they’re absolutely baffled as they try to connect their phones to the Ooino and play some music. That’s because the Ooino isn’t a Bluetooth speaker. It’s a refrigerator! Designed to look absurdly different, I guarantee you’ve never seen any fridge this radical looking!

The Ooino has a horizontal layout as opposed to most fridges today. It behaves exactly like most fridges, which bodes well for something this different looking! The fridge comes with a dock that it nestles in when it needs to charge (yes, it’s portable). All controls lie on the fridge door/lid. The dock comes with a solitary standby button. The redesigned fridge also serves as a table, with its upper surface providing ample space for laying out a full spread. This works wonderfully for outdoor picnics as well as homes that want to save on space and integrate appliances and furniture. Plus, with its fresh, quirky design, it’ll add an element of conversation to your home too!

Kitchen on the go!

sharepool_01

In the modern world, we share everything from car rides to apartments, so why not share your kitchen too?! Designed around this idea, Sharepool is a concept that explores what we might expect from the kitchen of future.

The system allows users to rent a single all-in-one kitchen unit instead of purchasing individual appliances. To make this possible, Sharepool has been scaled down to one compact system that includes a cooktop, microwave and fridge enclosed in a protective structure on wheels. It’s incredibly mobile, not only between each user’s dwelling, but within the dwelling itself. Particularly useful in microliving spaces, it can be placed in almost any room whether it’s the office or dining area to save valuable space!

A Future Fridge for the forgetful

silver_touch_refrigerator_1

While the most obvious upgrade to a fridge is a fridge that connects to your phone and allows you to run Buzzfeed tasty videos customized to your liking, it isn’t truly the wisest upgrade. The Smart Touch refrigerator may seem like it’s a long shot, but in philosophy, it captures what a smart fridge is required to be like. Aesthetically, the fridge is definitely a class apart, with its half-swirl handle that honestly gives my heart palpitations! The handle hosts an inbuilt biometric sensor that knows who’s opening the fridge door. Food kept inside the fridge is therefore tagged to the people who put them there in the first place. Projectors on each food tray project ‘time stamps’ n the food when you open the door. These stamps indicate who the food belongs to, and by what time must it be consumed. The designer HaiMeng Fang wants to eliminate the possibility (a pretty common one) of stocking one’s refrigerator, but forgetting about perishable food items kept within the fridge. The Smart Touch does a nifty job of telling you what you’ve got in your fridge that’s good to eat, and that’s nearing its expiration date. Isn’t that just magical?!

Star Wars BB-8 Talking Fridge Monitor: The Fridge Awakens

BB-8 is everywhere. He is the true star of The Force Awakens. The latest merch to feature a likeness of the lovable droid is this talking BB-8 that’s designed to live in your refrigerator.

This little guy can detect the refrigerator’s door opening, and brings the droid to life with more than 20 pre-loaded audio files. If you leave the door open for too long, it’ll bleep and bloop like crazy. Its head moves around and you can keep it anywhere in the refrigerator.

This talking fridge toy is powered by two AAA batteries which will last for around 3 months before needing replacement, unless you open your fridge like crazy, looking for snacks. In that case they will need replacing more often.

The BB-8 fridge droid will cost you ¥4,860 (~$45 USD), assuming you can figure out a way to get one shipped from Japan.

Hidden Garden Beer Fridge: Sub-Zero Feet Under

If you like to sit in the garden and relax with a cold beer, this is a great idea. It’s not very convenient to have a fridge just sitting in your garden, with a cord running into your house. This is proper the way to do it, with a hidden underground beer fridge.

beer_fridge_1zoom in

It was built by Peter Götting from Germany. Makes sense. Germans know their beer. All he has to do is push a lever on the side of the house, and the beer fridge rises, offering up cold refreshment. Push the lever again and it descends back into the earth.

It’s unclear if the unit is actually refrigerated, or if the ground keep the beers cool enough. Either way, this is an awesome way to grab a beer. Stealthy too. This is the future of drinking beer people.
